Key Features

The MB-D15 is a Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D7100.
The MB-D15 Multi-Power Battery Pack can be powered either by six AA batteries (Alkaline or Ni-MH or Lithium), or EN-EL 15 rechargeable Li-ion batteries. To use the MB-D15 with AA batteries, use the MS-D14 AA Battery Holder. When using EN-EL15 batteries to power the MB-D15, use the MS-D14EN Battery Holder.
The MB-D15 is equipped with a shutter-release button, AE/AF lock button, multi selector, and main- and sub-command dials for improved operation when taking photographs with the camera vertically oriented.

An Excellent Addition. I received this on December 24th 2013, and have not been able to put my camera (D7100) down since. Not only does it double the battery life but it balances the camera and makes vertical shots a lot easier and quicker to handle in light of the extra shutter release button but also the extra multi-selector and command dial. It also makes handling with my 70-300mm Zoom lens a lot more balanced. In case you have not realized already I am very pleased with this product. Before making the purchase I read extensively on reviews of this product and third party products, and took the overwhelming advise to go for the Nikon product. Although a bit more expensive I am finding it well worth the extra. December 26, 2013
Solid quality, fits snug but a little pricey. This battery grip makes the D7100 look and feel amazing! The cost is somewhat high for a grip but you get what you pay for. The grip matches the body perfectly and the rubber has plenty of grip. The added buttons and joystick are well positioned for vertical handling. The grip fits snug with no play, and makes handling bigger lenses a treat. The only other gripe I have about the grip besides the cost is that you have to take the grip off to reach the spare battery. June 6, 2013
January 20, 2014

Last night I used the camera LIthum Ion Battery First. I filmed (video) with the Nikon D7100 for 2 hours and 30 mins. I had the menu in custom settings set to use the Lithum Ion Battery first and then MB-D15 second. It never switched as the Camera Battery was running out. So I swtiched the Custom Settings to use the MB-D15 first. Then the battery just died. I had 4 recharged AA batteries fully charged in the MB-D15. Am I doing something wrong in the menus? Im trying to figure out why it wouldn't swtich to the MB-D15??

Answer:
Hard to solve without talking you thru it, I suggest you call Nikon service and support. In the US it is 1-800-NIKON-US, if you are not in the US, go to Nikon.com and look up the number for your country.

Answer:
Well I selection the Lithum-Ion (the battery that came with the camera) first since I used that first. In the setting menu under D I had the MB--D15 to be used second. Once the Lihtum-Ion Battery (the battery that came with the camera) was running low I selected the AA Akaline because thats what I had in the MB-D15 and thats what I wanted to use next. Was that wrong?

Answer:
You said that you used lithium ion batteries, why did you select AA alkaline. You should be selecting FR6, lithium ion batteries. Assuming you do this and have correctly installed the aa batteries in the MS-D14 aa battery holder you should return the grip or contact Nikon service and support.

Answer:
Yes you have to remove the MB-D15 to charge the battery in the camera but you don't really need one in the camera to run it. A battery in the MB-D15 will run the camera and is easier to swap out.

The white plastic cap is made in such a way as to suggest there is a way to store it on board while the MB-D15 is in use.

Answer:
My recommendation is to put it in the soft case (with the camera's terminal cover) that holds whichever battery pack you are not using. You just have to be careful when you pull out the other battery pack. That ensures both covers can easily be found (I usually also put small peripherals like this in a small zip-lock snack bag as they are less likely to fall out without being noticed and it also provides extra layer of protection. Some jewelry stores have smaller bags for jewelry that work nicely for this purpose too.

Answer:
The purpose of the plastic cap is to cover the battery grip contacts when not in use. There is no way to have the cap on the grip while it is in use.

Is it alright to thread the Black Rapid shoulder strap "D-ring" into the tripod socket on the MB-D15 battery pack for carrying the camera around? Or does that put too much stress on the battery pack's connection to the D7100 and you have to use the neck strap w/ this pack? Bummer, that's a lot of weight on the neck......
