Can you attach filters to the front of the WC-E75A? If so, what is the filter thread size?

FILTERS CAN BE USED. The WC-E75A is threaded and takes 77mm filters. I use Nikon's Circular Polarizer II with no problems whatsoever.

Answer: 
No, you have to set in camera to allow for the converter an so make sure that it does not zoom and cause damage to the camera zoom workings.
