all round great camera @ a great price. My wife & I bought a Nikon CoolPix L830 to take pictures of my soon-to-be 2 yr old daughter. After reading some reviews & using it briefly @ the store, is because of the shutter response was much quicker the our other Nikon CoolPix. The CP L830 has an insanely great zoom, & takes great pics, & I've spent less than $200 for it. February 26, 2015
Fabulous Camera I bought this camera for quick trips/pictures. It's almost as good as my D300s; almost! I love my Nikon cameras: beautiful pictures, easy to operate, and nice handling. Nikon is the way to go to capture your life. February 10, 2015
More than I expected I live in Colorado where views, good views, are abundant. I just now took a shot, out of my back door, that is of a high meadow about 5 miles away. I was very surprised to be able to make out individual tree branches. If there were any animals up there, I would have been able to see them! That picture was taken at full zoom (68x), and was remarkably clear. February 5, 2015
Love it I'm amazed by the clarity when the zoom is used. My compact cameras never could make the pictures this good. November 23, 2014
Superb overall performance and results Purchased in May 2014 as a replacement for the P100 and have a lighter, smaller camera for exercise walks. I have only Nikon cameras - 5 35mm and 7 digital. As an avid bird watcher, I take many GBs of birds. This L830 photo quality is nearly equivalent to my D7000. I suspect because the pixels are denser in the L830, the range of computer editing is not as diverse as with the D7000. But the L830 provides wonderful photos. The only disadvantage is not being able to use a viewfinder; the screen is a bit difficult to find birds at a distance, but I'm getting better at it. The zoom power is greater than the 80-400mm for the D7000. But I can't complain for about $200 compared to about $3,000. Photos below ranged 8 to 11 mb jpg after editing. I've already recommended the L830 to an Apple business specialist who is headed for India. August 5, 2014

Answer:
I bought my camera in a "bundle" at Costco which came with a Nikon branded case. While the camera will fit with one SD card and a few extra batteries the fit is so snug that the case is useless to me. I need to look for one that will hold spare batteries and that doesn't have to be packed so tightly just to get the strap to fit in.

Answer:
I bought my camera through Best Buy and they included a Lowepro Adventura Ultra Zoom 100 case. Everything fits very snugly and there are additional slots inside for extra SD cards. Also a space for spare batteries inside. Haven't dropped the camera yet so I can't attest to the protection value, but it seems like it will do the job.

I bought the L830 for my son last year. He loves it. However, I would like to purchase an additional attachment so he could zoom in more than what the camera does. I know nothing about cameras so I'm not sure if I am looking for a lens or what exactly. Can someone tell me exactly what I am looking for and if this is achievable with this camera?

L830 is a fixed lens camera and you cannot change the lens. L830 has a digital zoom feature, is he aware of that? It extends the lens to a equivalent 3000 mm lens.

Answer:
There is kit with a barrel that fits over the lens housing of the L830. That allows one to add 62mm filters. It is of such high quality and so handy, I leave it on all the time.

Sold by Digitalgojo on Amazon. Costs 39.99, and includes three two piece barrel, three filters (UV, which I leave on all the time, CPL, and ND8. And a lens shade. All high quality. Then one can add any 62mm filters.

Thanks for your reply, I haven't the first clue about cameras or their settings, I might just try the 'fireworks' setting then as I'm going away in 2 days and won't have time for getting a new camera. Hopefully I'll get a few good photos :)

Answer:
You cannot manually control the shutter speed, only setting you can try is "fireworks" shutter will remain open for 4 seconds. You probably won't have much luck as ideally you need the shutter to stay open from 15-20 seconds. It is usually a once in a lifetime experience so you might want to rent a DSLR and lens. Also, a tripod is a must.

Maximum recording time is 29 minutes or 4gb depending on file size. You can stop and restart then stitch video clips together Inn the view nx2 movie editor software. You may overheat the sensor trying to film for two hours. Camera will shut down and not restart until the sensor cools.
