UC-E4 USB Cable 1 5 2 2
Not for the D3000 Despite the UC-E4 being listed as the proper cable for the D3000, it is not. This is a standard A to Mini B USB cable. The receptacle on the D3000 appears to be a proprietary design. December 13, 2011
Why? I can't figure out why Nikon didn't include this cable. OK so they include the filters but Nikon doesn't tell you that it's 4 pin, except for the part number and the cord is not easy to find. This turned my experience from good to frustrating especially after I applied a lot of my time choosing which brand and camera model I wanted to buy. May 19, 2011

Answer:
No. It transfers data. Use a charger to charge the battery. There is a separate cable you can buy to charge from a computer.

Answer:
None of the cameras currently listed as being compatible with this cable support computer-to-camera charging, so, at least for the time being, the answer is no.
While the cable itself likely does support it, the cameras that are used with it do not.

the UC-E4 USB Cable, is it available as firewire? I've seen some advertised as Firewire 400 4-pin to 6-Pin Cable. Would that work and be faster?
