Yes, per the D800 brochure on page 14 that shows the System Chart. It clearly shows that the EN-EL18 can be used in the MB-D12 Grip. Below is the current pre-order Adorama cost for all items related to the grip for the D800.1. Nikon MB-D12, Multi Battery Power Pack / Grip $449.95
2. Nikon MH-26 Battery Charger for EN-EL18 Rechargeable Battery $349.95
3. Nikon EN-EL18 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery Pack $169.95
4. Nikon BL-5 Battery Chamber Cover for D-800 DSLR Cameras $28.50
Hope this helps and I can't wait to get my D800!
Best regards.

Answer:
The difference between the EN-EL4a ad EN-EL18 is the physical size of the batteries are different. The amount of charge they can hold. The EN-EL18 having the higher capacity. The only battery that will power the D4 is the EN-EL18 per the D4 brochure http://www.nikonusa.com/en_US/o/QD8q_b3vH8Re-n_CPUtpjBl-qbE/PDF/D4_brochure.pdf
The MH-26 charger is used with the EN-EL18 battery. For the EN-EL4a you can use the MH-21 single battery charger or the MH-22 which is a dual battery charger. Note: the MH-22 charges one battery fist and once that battery is fully charged the second battery gets charged.
