Wait until the camera has finished writing the photo(s) to the memory card (green light is off) before turning off the camera or removing the card. You can lose pictures if you do either before the camera has had time to download the file(s) from its internal memory to the card.

You should format the memory card in your camera on a regular basis. By using the camera’s built-in “Format” function, found in the menus, you lessen the chance of having card problems in the future. Doing so is better than just deleting the images using the camera or the computer.

Frame your storm photograph before it happens. Remember that the sky is your subject, so dramatic clouds are what you’re framing for, and then you hope that lightning will happen in that space. Keep the horizon in the lower third of the frame with the sky the top two-thirds.

Shooting a lightning storm can be exciting. Use a tripod and set you camera to record a long exposure. With D-SLRs, 15 seconds is a good start, but you may have to use up to 30 seconds, or bulb setting (where the shutter stays open as long as you hold down the shutter button). Because you never know when the lightning will occur, keep shooting for best results. And don’t forget the tripod! Otherwise you’ll have blurry photos.

Try different kinds of framing with your flower shots. Instead of centering the flower, try placing it off to the left or the right of the frame. This will allow for you to be creative with the negative space (areas without the subject). Look for the patterns of other out of focus flowers in the background.

If you accidentally delete your images or see a card error message, stop using the memory card. There is software that can recover your “lost pictures” even if they don’t show up on the camera. Continuing to use the card before running that software on it can ruin your chances of saving those photos.

Great Entry Level DLSR Camera Purchased this camera in April '09 and I am still in love with it. I did have a small issue with the light meter over exposing, but sent it in under warranty and it has worked flawlessly since. This was my first foray into digital and at first found all the functions daunting. I purchased a book on the D60 and also attended a Nikon class (came free with purchase). With some practice I have been taking some fantastic pictures. The nice thing about digital is you can take lots & lots of pictures and then just delete the ones that don't come out well. I have since bought some different lenses - tele and wide angle and with each one a new world opens up. I have traveled quite a bit with it and it hasn't let me down. Also get the remote shutter release so you can get in the picture too. :) May 18, 2012

Reliable and Efficient My Nikon D60 has been very reliable for me, I have owned it for over 2 years. Whenever I take it with me, it never lets me down. The cameras picture quality is just amazing and makes portraits and landscapes easy to work with. Even though this camera only has a 3 point AutoFocus, it is still easy to work with and is good for anyone looking for a reliable and perfect starter camera, it will not disappoint. A traditional SLR without the film. I bought this to replace an old, faithful Contax film SLR that had finally had it. My mission? a digital camera as close to what I was replacing as possible...and after having had the D60 for a few years, I still think it is just that. Minimal, no extraneous plastic bulk (canon, I'm looking at you), and all the features you'll ever need, without all the complication of too many buttons (that don't do a heck of a lot). This camera got me through art school, and is serving me well in my travels and current jobs, (including some semi-professional photo work). Cheers Nikon! November 20, 2011

I have the opportunity to purchase one for $100 but here is what I found on the D60 "Supports the Nikon Creative Lighting System when using the SB-900, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400, SB-R200 or the Wireless Close-Up Speedlight system R1C1. Offers accurate exposures via i-TTL flash"
I am new to photography and don't want to spend money on something that won't work properly. I get frustrated enough. LOL

Vickie, Nikon lists the camera and flash as compatible on both the archived camera specs and the flash compatibles list.

Answer:

Nikon offers two types of autofocus digital camera bodies: those with a built-in focus drive motor and those which require a lens to have a motor. Cameras such as the D60 do not have a focus motor in it so they require the lens to have the focusing motor – an “AF-S” lens. While these bodies can use a lens with no focus motor (an “AF” lens) you would have to manually turn the focus ring to bring the subject in to sharp focus.

Yes it will fit as its a F mount, however, you will lose AF and, no doubt, metering depending on which lens it is. This is of course saying that you are using a D60, later bodies like the D90, 300, 3 etc will retain metering anf AF but again depends on which lens it is.

This is one of the more common malfunctions this camera is known for.

The aperture and shutter speed are user controllable by setting the Mode dial to "M" and rotating the command dial. For shutter speed just rotate the command dial. For aperture adjustment press the aperture button while rotating the command dial. In the setup menu on my D60 I can set the video mode, yet I have been unable to figure out HOW to shoot video with my camera. IS this even POSSIBLE? If not...why then is there a setting for video mode?

Answer:

That's a setting for you to adjust the settings necessary in order to connect the camera to your television. In NTSC when you are going to connect the camera to an NTSC television or VCR. In PAL when the camera is connected to a PAL video device. This camera doesn't have the feature to record videos.
