Nikon D200 & Capture NX EISA
Pop Photo reports results from European Imaging and Sound Association yearly awards where two Nikon products won “prestigious awards for both digital imaging hardware and software.” The D200 took home European Camera of the Year for 2006-2007 while Capture NX snagged European Photo Innovation of the Year 2006-2007. “Capture NX has become the first Nikon software package to garner an EISA award.” The official awards ceremony took place in Berlin, Germany on September 1, 2006.

Comparing this new program to previous versions, Long concluded that the system “provides a complete non-destructive editing environment and boasts a simple, powerful editing interface unlike anything found in any other image editor."

Winter 2007, Capture NX
Michael McNamara from Popular Photography & Imaging has given a 2006 POP Award to Nikon’s Capture NX software. According to McNamara, the new U Point controls featured in Capture NX allow users to quickly adjust color and contrast for their RAW images and helps fine tune photos without complex masking. McNamara concludes that Nikon Capture NX gives users an abundance of flexibility and is true “software synergy.”

“Nikon really hit one out of the park with this one,” said the Image Doctors at Nikonians.org in regard to several of Nikon’s newest products in his June 8, 2006, podcast. After using Nikon’s Capture NX, they described to their listeners why it is a good idea to invest in this product, such as the U-Point feature, the LCH editor, the soundproofing feature and the crop tool. Concluding the podcast with positive feedback, the Doctors added, “this is a worthy upgrade with enough new features, enough things that are designed to enhance the performance.”

In their extensive review of Nikon’s newest image-editing program, Nikon Capture NX, editors of Digital Review gave the program positive accolades. Reviewers were impressed with the high-tech features of the program, including the non-destructive image editing, color control points, U Point technology, selective tools and color management. After sampling the various features of the program, editors of Digital Review concluded that Nikon is “offering a solution that is professional in terms of versatility and features while still remaining user friendly.” They also predicted the program would be a great tool to photographers and added, “We are very impressed with the simplicity of the user interface and the intuitiveness of the editing process.
