Great Entry Level DLSR Camera Purchased this camera in April '09 and I am still in love with it. I did have a small issue with the light meter over exposing, but sent it in under warranty and it has worked flawlessly since. This was my first foray into digital and at first found all the functions daunting. I purchased a book on the D60 and also attended a Nikon class (came free with purchase). With some practice I have been taking some fantastic pictures. The nice thing about digital is you can take lots & lots of pictures and then just delete the ones that don't come out well. I have since bought some different lenses - tele and wide angle and with each one a new world opens up. I have traveled quite a bit with it and it hasn't let me down. Also get the remote shutter release so you can get in the picture too. :) May 18, 2012

Lightweight Starter This was my first DSLR, and it has served me well for the 4 years I had it. It reminded me of a film SLR, no frills, just pictures. What it did though, was incredible. I have now moved on to a D7000, but the D60 is not leaving me. Consider buying one second-hand, as it is a great camera for its price and size. March 25, 2012

Reliable and Efficient My Nikon D60 has been very reliable for me, I have owned it for over 2 years. Whenever I take it with me, it never lets me down. The cameras picture quality is just amazing and makes portraits and landscapes easy to work with. Even though this camera only has a 3 point AutoFocus, it is still easy to work with and is good for anyone looking for a reliable and perfect starter camera, it will not disappoint. A traditional SLR without the film. I bought this to replace an old, faithful Contax film SLR that had finally had it. My mission? a digital camera as close to what I was replacing as possible...and after having had the D60 for a few years, I still think it is just that. Minimal, no extraneous plastic bulk (canon, I'm looking at you), and all the features you'll ever need, without all the complication of too many buttons (that don't do a heck of a lot). I have the opportunity to purchase one for $100 but here is what I found on the D60 "Supports the Nikon Creative Lighting System when using the SB-900, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400, SB-R200 or the Wireless Close-Up Speedlight system R1C1. Offers accurate exposures via i-TTL flash"
I am new to photography and don't want to spend money on something that won't work properly. I get frustrated enough. LOL

Answer:

Nikon offers two types of autofocus digital camera bodies: those with a built-in focus drive motor and those which require a lens to have a motor. Cameras such as the D60 do not have a focus motor in it so they require the lens to have the focusing motor – an “AF-S” lens. While these bodies can use a lens with no focus motor (an “AF” lens) you would have to manually turn the focus ring to bring the subject in to sharp focus.

Yes it will fit as its a F mount, however, you will lose AF and, no doubt, metering depending on which lens it is. This is of course saying that you are using a D60, later bodies like the D90, 300, 3 etc will retain metering anf AF but again depends on which lens it is.

This is one of the more common malfunctions this camera is known for.

There is a tutorial here of how to fix it yourself, but you might consider taking it in.

You will need to send your camera for service if by releasing the shutter you're still getting the error or appear frequently.

I would like to purchase a close up lens for our D60 to take pictures primarily of a baby. Could you recommend one. It seems most are not compatible with the D60.

camera instead of putting the camera to my eye. Viewing through the LCD monitor would be a preferred method of taking pictures for my wife.

No, you are unable to do this as it has no live view, view finder only im affraid.

In the setup menu on my D60 I can set the video mode, yet I have been unable to figure out HOW to shoot video with my camera. IS this even POSSIBLE? If not...why then is there a setting for video mode?

Answer:

That's a setting for you to adjust the settings necessary in order to connect the camera to your television. In NTSC when you are going to connect the camera to an NTSC television or VCR. In PAL when the camera is connected to a PAL video device. This camera doesn't have the feature to record videos.

whenever I take a picture in manual mode my camera will not show the taken photo on the screen after it was taken. This sort of thing does not haopen on any other shooting mode

Can you see any pictures when download to pc ?, if not then your settings may need adjusting.
