Joe McNally is hosting eight, one-day, intensive lighting workshops in Dobbs Ferry, NY (Westchester County, 40 minutes from NYC). No matter what type of equipment you use, the concepts of light discussed will translate. With emphasis on how to "write" with light and how it shapes the mood, color and feel of the photograph, Joe will begin with the basics—using one strobe—and expand the discussion to include the use of multiple lights. As he covers color temperature and color-balancing gels, you will discover ways to work with natural light and strobe and how to effectively mix the two together. Joe will also cover lighting issues that arise in the field when using small, on-camera Speedlights, as well as the problems and solutions inherent in dealing with huge productions.
The schedule in the morning consists of a slide presentation and open Q&A The afternoon will be devoted to shooting in a studio setting and outdoors (weather permitting). Models will be used for the portrait lighting demonstration. Fee includes breakfast and lunch; free parking is provided.
AGENDA
Once the door to the workshop opens, feel free to walk around the studio, speak with your fellow classmates and enjoy a light breakfast of coffee, juice, pastries, bagels and fresh fruit.
The classroom portion of the workshop will begin around 9:40 with an introduction of the staff. A brief slide presentation by Joe will follow. The remainder of the morning will focus on live demonstrations of different lighting set-ups by Joe. The class will break for lunch around 1:00 pm. A delicious buffet featuring sandwiches, wraps, salad and a hot entree, will be followed by an assortment of mini cakes and cookies.
The early part of the afternoon will be spent observing Joe as he demonstrates more advanced lighting techniques. There will be three to five models available throughout the day, and, whenever possible, time will be allotted for students to photograph the models in each lighting set-up. From 5:00 pm to approximately 5:40, students will be free to photograph the models independently in individual shooting bays, each featuring different lighting set-ups. At 5:45 our digital techs will download the students' image files so the models can have copies of the photos taken.
The workshop fee is $350.00 per student.
Each workshop will run from 9:15 am to 6:00 pm.
Workshops are limitied to 14 students per day.
