Enjoy the view

Like all DSLR cameras, the D3300 has an optical viewfinder that gives you a true view through the lens of the camera—and what a view it is! If you've been using a point-and-shoot camera, you'll find it easier to frame your shots, follow moving subjects, zoom in on bright sunny days and more.

Focus on the details

The D3300's 11-point Autofocus System locks onto your subjects as soon as they enter the frame and stays with them until you catch the shot you want. Even fast-moving subjects are captured with tack-sharp precision. And when you're recording Full HD video, Full-time Autofocus keeps the focus where you want it.

Capture the sights and sounds

The D3300 doesn't only take great photos, it takes dazzling 1080p Full HD video with sound, too! Record smooth, ultra-sharp HD movies you can play back on your HDTV or upload to video sites. You can even apply those fun special effects for more creativity!

D3300 4.7 5 16 16
Love this camera Excellent camera. Its performance exceeds your expectations of an "entry level" DSLR. I invested in new and better lenses than the ones that came in the kit and the results are stunning. Easy to use and learn on and has lots of cool features... I'm very happy with it :) December 3, 2014
Perfect camera for all occasions At 70 years of age I'm not new to photography but raising six children over a long span of time did not leave much cash for perusing photography as a hobby. It was do what you can with what you have as needed. My father had given me an Agfa Speedex camera that very basic but a good camera. The cost of film/processing and printing was a real limiting factor. Since the camera was old and the lens was separating the layers it was replaced by point and shoot film cameras. The pictures made nice memories but not the type of photos that I longed for creating. Now I have entered the DSLR age and what a difference. The photos I take are what I always longed to take. Colors are alive and brilliant. The D3300 is easy to use and with the options available to use, good results are guaranteed. In the M mode I can use the old lessons learned and the digital format makes experimenting and learning fun and affordable. I have used this camera for a week and am so pleased with its performance. There is nothing I would change. I have the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm lens. They are a nice combination. The camera has taken some nice bird photos and fall color photos with amazing results. Overall the D3300 has been the right choice for DSLR both as a starting point and use in the long run. It will provide a good long time of more that adequate service. It is proving to be the totally correct decision. October 21, 2014
compact and light this is my first dslr I only bought it because my phone camera although 12mp didn't have the ability to catch fast motion or close zoom. after a lot of research I found the d3300 it has everything I need as a beginner and features I will be able to use when I feel more confident in using in the future, I didn't want a camera I would have to up-grade just to advance in photography and this is it I love the simplicity of it the guide mode was one reason I bought it but saying that I rarely use it if ever as I feel I have learnt a lot more about the camera by just experimenting with it as you have the ability to reset its features to factory default if you mess it up takes away the worry for me the only down side is the cost of accessories like lenses compared to others I researched the tech side of my purchase but not the cost side of accessories October 3, 2014
Excellent Simplicity There are so many cameras out there, and the D3300 has been a perfect choice for my needs. It is simple in operation, compact, and delivers very high image quality. I most often shoot raw, and enjoy the variety of interpretations possible with both the D3300 in-camera NEF processing, and the supplied ViewNX2 software. Yet anyone in our family's three generations can pick up the D3300 with its excellent, improved 18-55 VR II kit lens and enjoy making quality images in the Auto modes. As a past owner of Nikon's more upscale DSLRs, I enjoy the simpler, lighter and more compact experience of a D3300 in my later years. August 26, 2014
Wowing! I have been looking for a good camera with a descent price for a long time. I am extremely happy with this one. It's easy to use, great for beginners. August 11, 2014

I'm quite interested in knowing more about certain features, the ability to customize the controls and things like that. I'd love to download the manual so that when the camera is in stores, I'll have a better idea of what to check out and try.

I use it to zoom in on my subject before pressing record to make sure it/they are in focus. Note: I only shoot video and use all manual primes, so being able to use the magnification button on the T3i helps with focus issues tremendously. I'm ready to buy a Nikon b/c Canon continues to drag their feet on the 1080p/60p option. Thanks!

Answer:
The D3300's new EXPEED 4 lets you shoot at high speeds up to 5 frames per second, shoot in low light with high ISO sensitivity, create high-resolution panoramas and much more. Answer:
Nikon operates factories all across the globe and each operates to the same high standard. While individual cameras are marked with their country of manufacture, we cannot make a blanket statement about the country of origin of a specific type/model of camera.

I went through the User manual. Pressed the Lv (Live View) button. I don't see the framing grid as the manual says. I went ahead and pressed the shutter button half way and then rest of the way until it clicked as per the instructions. I hear couple of clicks, the screen goes blank and then preview of one picture that was taken appears. There is no left and right or up and down arrows. Even though I tried panning the camera progress indicator does not appear. In short Panorama does not work for me. Am I doing something wrong?
Please help.

There is a small button on the body of the D3300 by the lens opening around the 8:00 position. I cannot find anything in the reference manual about it. I think it is used for specific lenses. Does anybody know what it is?

Answer:
After a little research, I finally found this on FredMiranda - forum/topic/816933 - user: jasoncallen

"On lower-mid end bodies that do NOT meter with manual lenses (D50/60/70/80/90 to name a few), there is a lever at the 7 o'clock position of the camera's F-mount that indicates to the camera body that your mounted AF lens's aperture is stopped-down to minimum. If you are using an AF-"D" lens, the aperture must be locked to its minimum for proper performance on an AF body."

(me: an AF-D lens is an autofocusing CPU lens, similar to the G lenses you are probably using, but it also has a manual aperture ring on it to make it backwards compatible with older bodies.)

"Again, if a non-AI lens is mounted (a very old type of Nikon F mount lens), it lacks a cut-away in the aperture ring of the lens to accommodate that lever, and it will bend or otherwise damage that lever."

Answer:
This will depend on your shooting conditions (such as ambient temperature) and how the camera was being used prior to the start of movie recording. If the temperature of the camera is too high, the D3300 will shut down in order to prevent damage to the internal circuitry. However, if the camera temperature is not too high, movie recording can be resumed.

Answer:
The D3300's GPS data is activated when the GP-1 or GP-1A is connected to the camera. A satellite icon will appear once the GPS is connected. A greenlight will appear, indicating that the GP-1 or GP-1A will be recording the information on to the images. Location data will appear in the metadata of the images once uploaded.

I just bought this camera for my kids sporting events. I am a newbie, can anyone suggest best function for indoor/outdoor sport action shots? I also bought an AF-S DX VR 55-200/4-5.6G IF-ED lens. Anything else to suggest for this lens? I'm trying to get a good action shot of my son to make him a fathead for his bday!

Answer:
When shooting a sports event a fast shutter speed is needed; the exact shutter speed needed depends on the subject you’re shooting. Try to get your shutter speed fairly high to avoid blur. 1/500 should be the minimum and 1/1000 or above is even better when shooting at sports events. You may have to raise your ISO for the shutter speed you want to use. In order to use a fast shutter speed a lens that allows a lot of light in, one with a fast maximum aperture is required. If your lens is not fast you can boost the ISO value to compensate, but be aware of the limitations when using high ISO settings. High ISOs are so often used indoors, especially at sporting events. Needing a fast shutter speed to stop action, photographers regularly choose ISO 1600 or above. Low ISOs, like 100 or 200, are most often used in bright situations (like sunlight) or when the camera is mounted on a tripod. For more information on shooting indoors or outdoors for sporting events, please see: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Learn-An...

Will Nikon AI-S series lenses mount to a D3300 body? I'm aware that I'll have to adjust every setting manually. I'm also aware of the effect of using a 35mm film lens on an APS-C crop sensor camera. I also own a Nikon FM10 and would like to use the DSLR to get some practice with the manual lenses to increase my success rate using them on the film camera. I'm looking to save a few bucks on film processing during the steep portion of my film SLR learning curve.
