Awesome semi-pro camera!! I majored in Photojournalism years ago and learned on a Pentax K1000. I went into another field but wanted a Nikon back then. Recently, I picked up a used D300s with a lens and love it! It may take some time to get used to all of the bells and whistles, but the pictures are sharp. Great camera! May 20, 2014
Folder Contains No Images I just bought this in March 2014 and I am debating whether I should send it to Nikon for repair or return it to the store. This camera froze on me twice. After the first incident, Nikon Support taught me how to reset it. Few days later, I took it with me on vacation and it happened again. The reset technique did not work. It took more than one day for the camera to come back to normal operation. When it is operating normally, it is a great camera and I enjoy the speed of the camera. So, I am not sure if it is a camera problem or user problem. I own a D80 also and I have not encountered the same problem with D80. April 29, 2014
Excelente para todo tipo de trabalho Photográfico. Muito boa em relação custo beneficio, ótima portabilidade, excelente qualidade de imagem e fácil de operar. April 16, 2014
Love it... I have yet to have a Nikon I do not like but this is one of my favorites. It focuses fast. It has lots of sensitivity for low light and a quick shutter for bright days watching sports. Now that I have a D600 I should give it to my niece but cannot part with it. March 8, 2014
I love this gear I had this durable gear for almost 5 years now and never gave me any problem. Always ready for any occasions. And I'm excited to use my new nikon 24-70 mm 2.8. Hoping to make the most out of this camera. January 29, 2014

I'm trying to make my new D300s show all 51 points, or even the 9 or 21 points, so I can move my POF to the side if I wanted to do an off center picture.

Answer:
hi
I’m sure this is discussed in the manual.
If you look under Support section here, you can download the manual or ask service and support
if you can not find it.
I would assume it has to do with the Auto-Focus Modes you have in camera.
I own an older D2X and can control which sensors are active and recompose shot if need be,..
hope this helps...

On my D300s I use 2 memory cards (16 GB SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash and 16 GB SanDisk Extreme SD). Both cards work fine, but the camera shows only one card total number of shoots. For example: jpeg (fine) - 1.4k, instead of 2.8k.
Is it normal?

P.S. the secondary card SD set up for overflow.

Answer:
Yes, this is normal. When shooting to 2 memory cards, the camera will show only the card that will run out of space first, at the current setting. This information can also be found at the bottom of page 72 of your D300s user manual : "Using Two Memory Cards"

Nikon operates factories all across the globe and each operate to the same high standard. While individual cameras are marked with their country of manufacture we can't make a blanket statement about which camera is produced where.

Usually sold as body only but some stores might sell a package that includes a lens. Ideal lens depends on what you are planning to photograph and how much you are willing to spend. You can also consider other lens companies such as Tokina or Sigma.

I need help! I am trying to shoot my kids play. I've shot 500 pictures over the last 2 days and NOTHING is good! The lighting is inconsistent and their is also fast action. Any advice on setting for this low lighting situation. ISO is on AUTO, but is shooting at 3200. I am on program mode. Tonight I will try to set a faster shutter speed. Answer:
Using faster shutter speed will make it worse. If anything, you will need to use slower shutter speed and a tripod, but that will cause blurring of motion. With auto ISO setting, the camera is shooting at 3200 ISO consistently because the camera is desperately trying to compensate for the lack of adequate lighting in the theater. You have two choices. Use an external flash (SB-600/700/800/900/910) if they allow it and get closer to your subject (assuming you have slower kit lens i.e. 18-105mm VR or 18-200mm VR) - closer you are, better your chances of capturing blur-free image for a given variable aperture zoom lens. OR Invest in faster Pro lens with constant f/2.8 or fast prime lenses (usually cheaper), i.e. 35mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 of f/1.4 These lenses allow more light to hit the sensor. Shooting in the dark theater is a challenge, even armed with capable camera such as D300s. In order to get the results anything that resembles what you see in magazines, you really need faster lenses with high ISO settings if flash is not going to be used.

I bought the D300 when it first came out. Now I don't see anything regarding that model.

Answer:
D300s has movie mode, 2 card slots, info button, 7 fps versus 6 and a few other minor changes. Picture quality should be identical.

Answer:
It depends.... Both are Dx size sensors, but the D300s is built like a tank. That is not to suggest the D5100 is not a well made, durable, product. It is, but if you subject your equipment to the rigors of photojournalism, or other full time photography, the D5100 may not be the proper tool. The D5100 benefits from newer technologies and higher megapixels, but that is not what makes a great image (although it can make capturing a great image easier). If you are using Nikkor lenses, either camera is more than capable of delivering outstanding results. If your D300s is still functional, I would keeping shooting it until it fails. My suggestion would be to take the money you plan on spending for the D5100 and go on a great trip, or purchase a new lens. Seldom does the body make a difference, but practice and continuing to develop your skills will. I hope this is helpful.

When shooting film indoors in bad lighting, sometimes the image of the film flimmers. I've been told that this happens at a certain frequency. How do I change this frequency?

Answer:
You can't change the shutter speed while shooting video because it is always open. The frequency they are refering to is the light frequency not anything to do with the camera.
You can try a faster lens and stop down the aperture.
