Great new camera
I recently purchased the D7100 after having a D3000 for the past 3 years. I wanted something that would give faster continuous shooting and better low light capability. For the most part, the D3000 did what I needed, but for some of my kids activities, it just wasn't enough. I just took 150 photos of my son's wrestling tournament in an old hockey arena. I set the iso to 4000 and was able to get good pictures and catch the action with the faster shooting of the D7100. There is a little noise, but it's only noticable if you view it at 100% and I haven't done any editing to minimize it. I wouldn't have been able to get these with my D3000. The move from the D3000 was quite easy as the controls are similar. The camera is bigger than the D3000 but I like the larger size. It feels good in my hands and seems more solidly built. Way to go Nikon.

For the last year I have been considering the D7000 because I outgrew my D3100 quite fast. Fast forward to a few months ago when I learned about the release of the 7100. I poured over the reviews that came out and compared it to the 7000 on a weekly basis. The question became whether to buy the 7000 at a nicely discounted price or pay for the 7100. I went with the 7100 and so far it is pretty amazing. I have been toying with a lot of the features. The dual SD slots are a nice improvement over the 7000 and the personalization this camera offers is very nice. I can't wait to really put this camera through its paces this Fall in Europe.

Great camera that carries a lot punch!!!
I just returned from Costa Rica where I had the opportunity to really try my D7100 under different types of environment. Well, I took over 3k pics where in many instances I had to push the ISO to 3200 due to poor light conditions. This camera performed flawless coupled with the 18-300mm lens. Used the camera mainly in A and S modes which are my favorites. There were instances where I pushed the EV to +2 without any problems. Used just about every focus mode combination the camera offers. I was very lucky that I own the D7000 which helped me greatly to handle my new D7100 that I received the week before departure. I did not get to use the crop feature but I am getting ready to use it this coming week while visiting the Everglades. This time it will be coupled with my 70-200mm. I feel that this is a superb camera and as I continue to learn about its new features, my pictures will improve dramatically.

Glad I made the upgrade
I have been shooting with the D5100 for about 4 years now. I go to school for photography and have been wanting to upgrade to a better camera. I was going to go with the D600 at first but only have one lens that is full frame, so it didn't make sense at the time. I'm glad I waited for the D7100 to come out. I do more sports and portraits and the 51 focus points stood out for sports for me. I just shot a wedding over the weekend with the D7100 and it performed beautifully, was inside for the reception with some of the worst lighting possible, but even at ISO 6400 this camera could take it. I'm happy with how the images have turned out. Battery also lasted me through 7 hours of shooting with about 700 images on that camera.
Also if anyone is worried about moire, I would stop worrying. That was one thing I was afraid about but it won't happen, unless your photographing some seriously crazy details that are bright and shiny.

This DSLR is way more than I was expected, I have only had it about 2 weeks but I have already shot close to 1000 images or more. the sharpness was what I was looking for, but not what I expected.. I upgraded from the D7000 , and dont get me wrong I loved my D7000, but wow.. I am planning to make this my last body until I upgrade to the full frame D-800 or whatever the equivalent is when im ready.. So if your ready to upgrade but not ready to take the FX plunge this is your final stop

Upgraded from the of course great D7000---happy so far
I just upgraded from the D7000. So far this camera is great with truly fantastic image quality. When you get images perfectly in focus (use a nice lens, stop it down, etc) it is really amazing how sharp the images are. They blow D7000 images out of the water. I had a slight issue with it focusing with my 50mm 1.4G, but it seems to have resolved itself. Lets hope it stays that way.

A very nice upgrade
I started with the D5100 last summer and it was a great first DSLR. I use my DSLR cameras primarily for filmmaking. Right now I am shooting documentary work, music videos and the occasional technical video and later this year I will start my first serious series of short films. I knew I wanted more manual control during video recording but at first I was hesitant to lose the rotating screen. I thought about going full frame, but financially I just did not have enough funds. The first time I picked up the 7100 I thought this is it. I spent another week going over the other brand models trying to decide. Bitrate control was another thing I wanted in camera, but I am learning to live without it. Really only two things I want out of this that they could fix with an update. Aperture control during video recording (which I am currently bypassing with my 70's nikkor lens) and some more bitrate options. Don't get me wrong the video compression looks great. But being that bitrate is a hot item to have with DSLR filmmakers I hope Nikon starts to add that since not all of us can afford an external recorder. That is out of reach, though I do hope to try one out soon with the 7100. I was excited to try the 60fps and was pleased with the result this morning filming geese. It was clear and sharp slowed down. It is a phenomenal camera and I know my clients will enjoy the quality of image it can produce. I give it 5 stars because going from the 5100 the 7100 feels like a pro model upgrade. I am very excited to finish my first documentary with it. The added headphone jack is great. I will have my rode pro on top for interviews to run along with a lav mic on an external recorder. I think this will be a great setup. I had started to consider a 7D since they are used a lot on films and then read the new 7100 sensor was easily compared to other nice super 35mm...that intrigued me a lot and I have to say the quality is just stellar. I also wonder if it is in part something to do with the loss of the lowpass filter, another issue I was excited to try. No bad moire or aliasing that cannot be corrected with the right settings. I had a shirt going crazy then changed my settings and it was perfectly clear. No problems with brick buildings so far either. I was worried about a brand switch away from Nikon because of the aliasing issues from other cameras, and the specs Nikon site claimed it would be minimal on the 7100 even without the filter. That sounded good to me and I am enjoying the sharpness.

I received my new D7100 about a week ago and have shot 50 images so far, and could not be more pleased with this camera. I shoot 99% fine art sea and landscapes in HDR on the Central Oregon Coast. Using the matrix metering and ADL exposure combination the images are remarkable, both sharp with terrific color rendition and spot on exposures (lens used is Nikkor 16-85mm G). I can honestly say that this camera has brought my photography to a higher level.

Still learning but I am very impressed
Just had my D7100 for a week and am getting up to speed on manipulating its features. That said, I am recording some fabulous images as I go. I will come back and share as I get better. I am a graybeard that is impressed with the progress in digital image quality since my first DSLR. Back at you in 30 days.

This is definitely an all in one camera.
It gives the D600 a slap in the face.

Wow, I'm in love
After shooting with my D60 for years it was time to move up, I waited for the D7100 it came last week, yes there are buttons for the buttons, buttons but little by little I'm getting it. I love all the new features that i have been waiting for. My D60 will always be my backup.
Way to go Nikon.

Excellent DX format DSLR, value for money, amazingly sharp stil versetile.

Replaced my D7000
I was excited but worried that the upgrade wouldn't be very noticeable from the D7000. My worries were set to ease as this camera is AWESOME! It handles well in my hand and takes great pictures!

Very Nice Camera
I have been In to photography for 25 years used all if not most of the equipment out .this camera fells very nice to me and I am a big guy with big hands .the camera was able to focus very well in the photo of the bird I am not happy to find out they do not have a LCD protector out for this camera. All in all this camera is well built and takes good photos.

Yes this one is the one
Being a new customer to Nikon Digital, I have owned the F5 film camera in the past. I am very impressed with the camera, it is very intuitive. I feel it has the perfect weight. Also coming from the Sony A77, A65 and A700, I have to say that this camera is definitely a different camera. It has a polite way about the way it operates. The photos are more realistic to me and I don't have to do much correction if any to the pictures like I used to with the other cameras I have had in the past. I have been in photography for 25 years plus and this is the first time I have been this excited about a camera in a long time.

Worth the Wait
Smaller than a D800, Faster than a D300s (@14bit NEF), Cheaper than a D600 (by $500), Better than any Canon (under €2K) for anyone not into fast sports (D3X) or rapidly changing photojournalism / wildlife photography (D4)
DX images have never looked so good!

Having a ball
I am new to photography and after extensive research I decided on the D7100. I am very satisfied with the ease of use and many features this camera offers. I just cannot wait for the fall colors to arrive so I can capture many photos and I am looking into a larger lens to capture some local wildlife.

The best you can find
It was my first time getting a camera. I pretty much learned how to use it just by looking through the user's manual. The only thing you might want to think about it that it is not very light. I got a 18-300mm lens and together it weighted around 1kg. If you are someone who wants to travel around a lot without a heavy item in your hands then choose one of the D5000 series. However if you don't mind the weight, this camera will satisfy all your needs. It include everything you need from a starter till a professional photographer.

What more do you need?!
I would like to thank all the crazy and creative scientist this frankenstein of a camera.

Bought the D7100 about 2 months ago, I upgraded it from the D7000.
From day one I had back focusing issues with my old D7000 and while in time Nikon service and Fine Tuning helped a lot it never fully resolved my problems.
So when I gave up on the D7000 I upgraded to the D7100 and MAN what a HUGE change.
All my pictures are sharp, sharp, sharp!!!
Low light performance is about same as the D7000 which means for a crop sensor camera its great.
Up to 3200 ISO I am using it with no problems.
I read some people complaining the buffer is too small for burst mode.
Well For me I don't need more then that and if you really want more then simply put it on 1.3 crop mode and JPEG Fine and you get up to 22 frames till the buffer (I tested it myself).
Dynamic range on this camera is amazing, simply amazing.
To sum it up I think for its price this camera is a marvel, will do all you need and leave you happy with gorgeous pictures.

I purchased the D7100 as an upgrade of my D90.
I simply love this camera. Price/quality ratio is excellent.
Words to describe it would be versatility, rapidity, brightness.
Vesatiliy because it can adapt to various condition, with high range if ISO.
Rapidity as the response is quick, and you can shoot up to 6 fps.
Brightness because I really enjoy to capture bright light. The results are excellent.
Photography is my hobby, and I really have fun with this new camera. I encourage you to try it!

The Nikon D7100 is my first DSLR camera. My initial plan was to go with the Nikon D3200 - but everyone I spoke with (shooting with one) tried to sell me their setups, eager to upgrade to the 7100. I wanted a camera that I could grow into-- and I am confident I picked the right one! There is definitely a learning curve coming from a point-and-shoot, some of the controls are unintuitive/ very hidden. That being said- I never sat down with my manual, I just jumped right in and started playing around.
Overall, I am so glad I chose this camera as my entry into the photography world. It has been a pleasure learning on. I am happy with the pictures I am taking- they just keep getting better and better. I love this camera and I know I am going to continue to love it for years to come. Still much to learn, but I feel like I am off to a great start, and excited to see what else I can do with it! I would definitely recommend the Nikon D7100 to others just starting off with photography (currently trying to talk my dad into buying one).

This is my second D7100, the first I returned because of too frequent sensor cleaning. This second camera is performing beyond my expectations. I ordered it with the kit lens 18-105MM as well as 70-300 MM and 35MM 1.8 lens. I just finished covering a local airshow with the 70-300MM lens, shooting RAW in 1.3 crop mode with excellent quality pictures. I would highly recommend this camera. It is not a professional model but certainly lives up to being the flagship for the enthusiasts camera.

I especially love the virtual horizon. I did not think I would use that feature much, but I use it a lot. It is certainly a feature rich camera. I am sure by the time I have remembered half of what is in the user guide (very meaty) the camera may be obsolete. Happily, features I have used in the past, like AE lock are easier to use. While I prefer to take stills (I have a semi pro video camera), I did try the video on this baby, and I must say, the video and audio quality are both great.
My only annoyance is that Adobe CS5 does not have a raw converter that works with the NEF files this camera shoots. I really wish Nikon could work closer with companies like Adobe so that the infernal software producers wouldn't have leverage to force users to purchase new software everytime we want to update our cameras.

Great camera for anyone beginner to professional!
I started out with a D3200 as my first camera not too long ago. I felt like I reached the end of what I was able to do with that camera and decided to upgrade. The D7100 was able to fulfill all the requirements that I needed from prosumer camera and not break the bank. I would definitely recommend this camera 10/10!

I think this is one of the best cameras I have ever owned. I switched from canon a few years back to the Nikon D7000 and could not have been happier. Then when the D7100 came out i just had to upgrade and I was not disappointed. I loved all the extra features especially the HDR and effects settings. I mainly use DSLR's for video and the options are a great step up from the D7000 which you could only really shoot 24 frames per second at 1080p, and I love the interval timer setting which I have been having a lot of fun with. When I got the camera a week ago I have not been able to put it down. The only camera I think i Enjoy more then this is the Nikon D800 and one day I will own that one too.
