Excellent value in a feature packed, highly intuitive camera. We love them. (Bought 2!)
This was my first DSLR, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am no photographer, maybe an enthusiast at best. As a student of environmental science, I needed a camera that could offer a little more versatility than a point a shoot, but not so complex that I spent more time with my nose in a manual than my eye in the view finder. This camera has served me well. Within a few months, I bought a second one and gave to my 11 year old daughter. I am 1,200 miles from her due to military service, so any help she asked for was given via video chats. Only a couple times did she call on me to help with anything. She has three lenses in total, and various other accessories. She is a fairly technical inclined child, through constant exposure of computers,Ipods/pads, and other such devices. I still found it remarkable how well she took to navigating settings and such. I only mention her experience as a testament to the intuitive nature of the menus. I found it equally easy to navigate. I am no one to get into the technical specs, again, just a wanna be scientist/enthusiast trying to bring home images of things I have seen in this marvelous world we share. I would recommend this camera to anyone wanting to move into DSLR cameras without breaking the bank. I have since bought a D300S, and so far all lenses, filter, and tele-converters are completely interchangeable.

Great Beginner Camera
Was using a film camera before i got my first DSLR D3100. Its absolutely great. Easy to point and shoot if you don't know how to use all the buttons. The menu is a bit confusing but you get the hang of it eventually. I am brand new to DSLR so i have a lot to learn. Very portable and light weight. Only downside that it doesn't have a wireless remote. Other then that the photo come out beautifully. I highly recommend it.

Best camera ever.
My first DSLR. It is durable – even if I dropped it, it still works without a problem. Video is amazing, especially the full 1080p resolution. Photos come out great. Lens compatibility isn't an issue – I have a lens from 1998 that fits and still works with this camera (you have to shoot in manual mode, though). For first-time photographers like me, this is really easy to use. A versatile camera for everyday photography, I recommend this to every first-time DSLR buyer.

BEST ENTRY/ INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CAMERA ON THE MARKETim
I'm new to the DSLR world well was when I first got this camera for an amazing price. I'd seen reviews and such so I knew how to work it out of the box but I decided to give the manual a look and it wasn't the novel I Thought it would be. It was very simple. Image quality is amazing, can go days without charging while using it for hours each day. The only and not that bad things that wish were here were the ability to use IR remotes to control this camera and for it to be a little quiter. Nothing to bad at all. Still in love with this camera years after it release!

Love this camera!
A week or so ago, I got the d3100 from Best Buy, but the flex circuit broke and I can't send it to Nikon headquarters, so I exchanged it today. It is my first DSLR and a great beginner DSLR to have, for I spend most of my free time with my cameras (both are Nikon). I'm really sad that they are discontinuing this product. I totally recommend this to a lot of people!
