Problem with iPad/iPhone Disconnects fixed? Like others I have experienced disconnects with IOS devices. If you are having this issue try putting the IOS device into "airplane mode" and enable wi-fi only. This both speeds the downloads up and makes the transfer much more reliable. January 16, 2014
Super Slick WiFi Adapter I just bought the WU-1a wireless mobile adapter for my D7100. Easy to set-up and it worked the first time. I have used this WiFi adapter to move pictures to my cell phone with no issues; JPEG, Large Normal, files - so they are big files. Also switched to camera control mode using my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx cell. Again no issues in operating the camera and transfer of files. Love the fact that after you take a picture it automatically downloads to my cell. This is so slick being able to use my cell to see the image and to trip the shutter. Really great and fun and I have not downloaded the online instructions. I love this unit and don't have any concerns in recommending this accessory. One comment on price, at $55 it's a lot of money. It only cost me $3.12 after my gift card. Highly recommended. November 5, 2013
Remove old photos, Move app to sim. At first I had issues with the product until I truly understood the issue. This product attaches to a very high end camera. The said camera D7100 takes huge, nice, brilliant pics. The application will not open if it can not find enough disk space to view the camera's contents, which are also stored on the phone. I did the following. 1. Moved Photos to my IMAC. 2. Deleted the photos from my phone. 3. Moved the app to the SIM. I am running the APP on a BLU (Galaxy knockoff). If it works on this phone it will work on anything. Good Luck. Silk April 23, 2013
This changes everything! Pictures used to stay stuck in my camera until I could download them into my laptop. Now, within seconds, they are transmitted effortlessly into my iphone 5. Thanks so much for a great feature. February 19, 2013

Answer:
Videos cannot be recorded while the WU-1A is connected to the D7100. However, videos that were recorded prior to connecting the WU-1A to the D7100 can be transferred from the memory card in the D7100 to the IPad.

If a D7100 user has the role of card in slot 2 set to Raw +Jpeg the WMU app downloads the Raw files by default. If you've shot a lot of Raw pics it takes a long time to download to the smart device. I'd prefer to download the much smaller Jpeg files, but I don't have that option unless I remember to physically move the card. It would be nice if the app lets me choose what camera memory slot to download from.

Answer:
The WMU (Wireless Mobile Utility) application can be downloaded from Apple App store and Google play store. In Apple App Store, The WMU is listed as an IPhone app and therefore If you are using an iPad, you will need to change the setting on the iPad so that it displays iPhone apps.

Answer:
What kind of camera are you using?  That is surely relevant to your problem, as well as the kind of scene you're trying to shoot.

There are some circumstances under which autofocus simply doesn't work well, and perhaps the scene you're trying to shoot while using the wireless is one that involves these circumstances.  Look up “Autofocus” in the index of your camera's manual, and you'll surely find more information about this issue as it pertains to your particular camera.

If your camera is a DSLR, then there's another issue that may be at work.  What I describe hereafter pertains to my D3200; I cannot say for certain how much other DSLRs are the same or different.  See the attached image of the relevant information, as found in the manual for my D3200.

My D3200 has two viewfinder modes.  The mode that is normally used, and lacking any better term, I will describe hereafter as “SLR mode”; wherein the mirror is down, and the image is directed through the SLR-type viewfinder; and “Live Mode”, wherein the mirror is locked up, the shutter open, and the LCD screen serves as the viewfinder, showing the image seen by the main image sensor.

The manual for my D3200 says that autofocus will be “slower” in Live Mode.  I think there's more to it than that.  I think that in SLR mode, there is a specialized, dedicated autofocus sensor, that is optimized for this purpose.  In Live Mode, only the main imaging sensor gets the image, and I think it is probably not as well suited for autofocusing.  Not only is it slower, but I think that in difficult situations, it is more likely to simply fail to be able to focus properly.

When used remotely, via the WU-1a, my D3200 only operates in live mode; otherwise, it would not be able to send the viewfinder image to my remote device.  Therefore, the limitations which pertain to Live Mode will always pertain to remote wireless operation via the WU-1a.

the directions say, "2. Ready the Smart Device. On the smart device, open Wi-Fi settings and select WPS button connection to ready the device for a WPS button connection." I have clicked Wi-Fi and all that is there is connect to a Wi-Fi network. I find nothing like that in General settings and nothing in Settings itself.

Any thoughts where the WPS button connection might be on the Iphone5s (running iOS7.0.3)

Answer:
Hard to answer but I'll go thru the steps:
I assume you have downloaded the wireless mobile adapter utility to your S4.
Plug in the WU-1A and turn on the camera.
Go to wireless settings on your S4 and select WPS connection.
Press and hold the WPS button on the WU-1A it should blink red then turn green and connect to the S4.
If you are still having problems call Nikon service and support, in the US in is 800-NIKON_US. If you are in another country log on to Nikon .com and find the phone number for your location.
Hope that helps.

I ended up calling in to Nikon (1-800-NIKONUS) and attendant was very helpful. He had me hold the little button down on the side of the WU-1a wifi device for 10 seconds. It went from flashing green to flashing red to orange. Once it flashed orange, he said to click it one more time and that would reset the device such that a password would not be required. I did and then all my devices were able to connect directly. Sorry to have to answer my own question, but hope this helps.

Does the WU-1A Wireless Adapter Simply Copy files over to Smart Device, but also leave a copy of the images on the SD Card?

I am looking for a way of backing up images while I am taking them, but also keep the originals on the memory card.

The reason I ask is that I am a wedding photographer and being able to make a carbon copy of the images to a Smart Device would be useful if the memory card were to fail.

I understand that JPG images are only supported at the moment, but the ability to transfer NEF files would also be useful if that is something that could be added in the future.

Thanks.
