The WT-5A Wireless Transmitter is designed for use with the Nikon D4 D-SLR camera. It can also be used on the D800 and D7000 D-SLRs when used along with the UT-1 Communication Unit.

WT-5A Wireless Transmitter 4 5 1 1
Expensive But In The End Worth It I've had this wireless unit for close to 2 months now and I'm finding it almost (but not quite) indispensable. The iPad and iPhone applications are the most often used. The iPad viewfinder and camera controls are amazing. Change focus with one touch anywhere on the screen. Select new apertures, shutter or switch modes. On the iPhone, my camera back offers more space than the iPhone screen does but the phone has become my de-facto remote release. I've used the wireless file transfer feature but frankly it can be faster to simply stick with the card reader for uploads to your computer. It doesn't help that the wireless port on the camera (D4) is a bit awkward to use as it's difficult to get the port cover far enough out of the way to allow for connecting the WT5. I'll give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the less than smooth camera connection process I talked about and the price. However, I'm a big fan of going wireless wherever possible and this is a great step forward in getting rid of more cables. July 4, 2012

Can I use the WT-5A in tethered mode shooting into Lightroom? Currently, I use a D700 usb tethered to my Mac to do this but sometimes get tangled up or accidentally pull the USB out. Will this unit replace the USB so I can do true wireless tethering?

I tried connecting D4 to Internet via Ethernet cable but could only download jpgs and not RAW files. The remote control was also not very efficient. Is it different/better with WT-5A?

Answer:
PC mode in WT5 requires Camera Control Pro. With HTTP Mode you can use a web browser on an iPhone or iPad to operate camera controls or begin Live View Shooting.

Hi,
Why does it take so long for the photos to download? Here's my setup with the D4...
- I create a watch folder (Hot Folder)
- Lightroom 4 is setup to import the photos on the Hot Folder
- Connection is made Ad Hoc
- I'm able to import the photos but it's painfully slow
- It seems that it's only quick when shooting successive photos but if you wait a bit long between shoots, the network disconnects and then it takes a while again to start sending photos to the Mac
- Note, this is the same when I connect a Cat 5 Ethernet cable. If you wait a bit between shoots (about 30 secs), the network disconnects. Is there a way to keep the connection constant so a smooth workflow of shooting tethered is accomplish?

Thank you,

Answer:
I just received mine & i have heard that others have gotten there's. So I guess it's as available as any other released product - depending on supply demand you may or may not find it at any one retailer.

Answer:
Yes, NEF image transfer is possible. It will transfer along with the buffer. When one image finishes another will begin to transfer. You can stall the camera when the buffer fills, so the same is true for the wireless transfer. It meets the specs designated in the manual.

Just purchased the WT-5 and after a little trouble with set-up it works perfectly for me. I use it to transmit photos instantly to my laptop. I would like to know if I can have another computer to receive the photos at the same time as my own computer?
