My Favorite Accessory
This is my favorite accessory. I carry a tripod and this cable to use when conditions allow - no people around; no wind - to enable long range telephoto shots and dim light shots. This shutter release cable is perfect for my D5100: easy connection, easy and smooth operation. But get acquainted with the movement of the switch. Note that it does not operate the video since that is a separate firing mechanism.

If you’re going to use the camera in "bulb" you'll need the MC-DC2 remote cord in order to keep the shutter press and to prevent blur. The ML-L3 you can use it for self portraits (the remote has to be in front of the camera).1 year ago

actually, i've never tried to make it that far, but it's a good guess that yes, 30 mins is the ceiling for the bulb exposure (gotta protect the sensor from overheating).

The wireless remote does not give me the distance that I need from the rear of the camera. Is there a remote release cord that will work with the D50? Is there an extension cord that would allow me to get 10+ feet behind the D50 and fire it?
Thanks!

The remote will only help you with the images, since in order to start recording a video you have to press OK and not the shutter release.
