A bit overpriced, but feels great!
I'm using it with my D800 and it may be a bit overpriced (bought when I was visiting my family in Poland for 1300 zloty (PLN), which is 380$ - and remember that in Poland the tax is 23%, not 8%), but it feels great, works great and.... what else do you expect from a vertical grip? Sometimes I forget about having it, I quite rarely put it off - but without it D800 feels... too small and too light ;-)
I've changed from D7000 with MB-D11 to D800 with MB-D12 and it feels quite the same - great camera with a great battery pack.

Way Overpriced!!!
I'm a big advocate for buying genuine Nikon products--lenses and accessories--because you usually get what you pay for. But not so with this grip! The 3rd party knock-offs that have started appearing are 90% as good for around $100 now, possibly even less in the coming months. I recommend picking up the 50 f/1.4G Nikon lens (excellent lens) for the difference saved in buying a 3rd party grip. The absolute most that this grip is worth would be $200.

Price gouging
I understand Nikon's wish to make as much money as possible and to charge a premium price for an accessory of an premium body, but this is going too far. Some will be desperate and just buy - and I have been tempted to do same because I have big hands and have become so used to using the MB-D10 on my earlier camera - but I think I will wait this one out. The MB-D10 was the innovation, this is merely an slight change to an existing design. Besides the D800 design could have been done to retain compatibility with the MB-D10. Whichever way you cut it, this looks like extortion.

Can AE-L button on the grip be programmed as AF-ON with the custom functions?
On D7000 MB-D11 combo, the custom function that modifies the behavior of the AE-L button on the body does not affect the grip. Is this issue eliminated on D800 and MB-D12 combo?

I have been waiting for this camera for years, but I shoot a lot of kids sports and 4FPS is just not fast enough when I get 8FPS from my 3 year old D300

I understand there are several options for different batteries inside -- do you have a list of expected shots per charge (or battery life) for each?

Can I use the EP-5B with the MB-D12 on the D800? I really need this for studio work (product and food photography with camera tethered to computer) I really like the built in power plug on the D700, sad it has gone on the D800.

Is it recommended to keep the EN-EL15 in the body of the camera or should we leave the battery chamber empty?
I find it extremely inconvenient to have to remove the grip each and every time I need to charge the battery inside the camera. Is there a way to set the camera to not draw power from the battery inside the camera itself unless i manually set it to do so? This way I can leave the EN-EL15 inside the camera as an "emergency reserve" while swapping out batteries in the grip on a day-to-day basis.

I just get a blinking light saying the MB D-12 batteries are exhausted and I can't continue shooting with the in camera battery.
