A bit overpriced, but feels great! I'm using it with my D800 and it may be a bit overpriced (bought when I was visiting my family in Poland for 1300 zloty (PLN), which is 380$ - and remember that in Poland the tax is 23%, not 8%), but it feels great, works great and.... what else do you expect from a vertical grip? Sometimes I forget about having it, I quite rarely put it off - but without it D800 feels... too small and too light ;-) I've changed from D7000 with MB-D11 to D800 with MB-D12 and it feels quite the same - great camera with a great battery pack. Way Overpriced!!! I'm a big advocate for buying genuine Nikon products--lenses and accessories--because you usually get what you pay for. But not so with this grip! The 3rd party knock-offs that have started appearing are 90% as good for around $100 now, possibly even less in the coming months. I recommend picking up the 50 f/1.4G Nikon lens (excellent lens) for the difference saved in buying a 3rd party grip. The absolute most that this grip is worth would be $200. July 1, 2012
Price gouging I understand Nikon's wish to make as much money as possible and to charge a premium price for an accessory of an premium body, but this is going too far. Some will be desperate and just buy - and I have been tempted to do same because I have big hands and have become so used to using the MB-D10 on my earlier camera - but I think I will wait this one out. The MB-D10 was the innovation, this is merely an slight change to an existing design. Besides the D800 design could have been done to retain compatibility with the MB-D10. Whichever way you cut it, this looks like extortion. April 29, 2012

Answer:
I was able to find the answer w.r.t. EN-EL18 on the Nikon USA website.
The MB-D12 + EN-EL18 + BL-5 all work in unison.
The BL-5 is the Battery Chamber Cover.

Answer:
Dear Nikon,

Please re-read my original question. Actually, let me re-phrase it into 3 questions.
1. Will the MB-D12 accept an EN-EL18 battery?
2. If so, will a different battery chamber cover be required?
3. If so, what exact battery chamber cover will be required?

Thank-you,
NikonPro

Answer:
The D800 is huge news. Expect it to be out of stock for months after its launch. Of course, people will want to get the grip as well, so Nikon sees this as a chance to pocket a little more cash. I would expect the price for the grip to reach reasonable levels once the first wave of buying frenzy cools down.
I don't like this pricing strategy either, and personally, will wait for the prices to cool down before I will consider buying one.

Honestly, for over 2.5x the cost of previous grips, many of us are hoping you've included a little something extra (wifi). I'll buy it as soon as its available if that's the case. Otherwise this will be the first Nikon body I've owned that isn't either full size (F4, F5) or gripped (F3, FM2, FG, F100, D200, D700).

It appears that they have the same features, what is the purchaser getting with this product to justify paying an additional $300.00 for the MB-D12 vs the MB-D10?

Answer:
The answer easy, The D800 is more expensive and is the best high res sensor camera Nikon makes so the grip is more expensive. You always get charged a premium for accessories that go with top of the line products. Especially when those products are new, extremely desired, and the manufacture is likely to be unable to meet the initial demand. Give it 6 months minimum or more likely a year and the price will probably come down a bit. It all depends on how many people let their excitement for the camera overcome their judgment enough to actually be willing to buy a grip that has such an unusually high price.

While using two En-EL15 batteries (one in the camera and the other in the battery pack) you will need to set the order which one would be used first.
