Key Features

The EH-69P is an AC Adapter Charger that can be used to power select Nikon cameras from an AC power source, useful when shooting long sessions. It will also recharge the battery.

Compact, quite light weight, US plug "folds" This came with my S3100 Coolpix camera. It's a switchmode converter that puts out 5 volts up to a bit more than half an ampere. It has a USB connector, which probably means that it is much more generally useful than just for Nikon cameras. Any AC power, worldwide, will operate it; it (naturally) works on 100 volts, found in Japan, up to 240 V, in many places. Works on both 50 and 60 Hz, of course. It's wide-range; no need for a selector switch. I opened it up (voiding the warranty, for sure); inside is what's called a switch mode power converter ('power supply") that not only does the job, but is much lighter in weight than a traditional type with a 50/60 Hz AC line (mains) transformer. As well, it appears to have extraordinary protection from high-voltage AC accidents; in case of downed power lines or lightning, this device should be safer than many. It probably can isolate the USB connector from a few thousand volts on the AC mains plug; it's /very/ safe. The label on the back has an amazing variety of approval logos and related information. Included is the UL logo of Underwriters' Labs in the USA, which sets stringent safety standards. For US power outlets, the plug "folds" inside the housing ("case"), a very nice feature. It's easy to rotate it into working position. Adapters for other worldwide AC mains sockets can be removed (except in Argentina and Korea?) if you want to fold in the plug. It works just fine with the USB cable for the S3100. Mine is made in China for Nikon by Dongguan Powertec Electronics, Ltd. Quality is very good, and they plainly know what they're doing. (I'm a retired electronic tech. with engineering experience.) Another first-rate Nikon-branded product... November 18, 2011
A Way to charge your EN-EL5 Batteries I have an adapter from my previous Nikon Coolpix for these batteries. It's the Nikon MH-61 Lithium Ion Battery charger. I use it so that I can charge an extra battery outside of the camera. March 28, 2014
Very Good Camera with large stupid charger P-300 Excellent overall and I would recommend it especially for those who want more control over their camera. Great f1.8 lens at 24mm.. HOWEVER, their charger is beyond counter-intuitive! Compact charger requires long and relatively heavy and bulky multi-use cord. * for charger - **** for the camera August 15, 2011
case separated when I unplugged from wall socket Bought my Nikon Coolpix P500 about 18 months ago. Enjoy the camera, but very unhappy that my adapter/charger is not working. When I last unplugged it from the wall socket the case separated at the end where the usb plugs in, and now it won't charge. Blech. As you can see, the device isn't cheap at $40 and I'm not a happy camper that I have to replace it. Wondering how long the next one will last. May 7, 2013
not for international use At first it appears to be a nice compact charger with foldable pins and adapters to convert it to local sockets. Just fount that adapter once fixed can not be removed!!!! very clumsy when returning home you have to buy a new charger and have a charger-with-adapter you no longer can use. Also akward that you can only charge the battery in your camery, not your spare one. This charger is NOT intended for international travellers. I must advice to find a better charger (or even better cam if this is damaged by a different charger as is treatened). A disappointed NIKON fan April 8, 2013

Answer:
If the light is flickering (very fast) it may be that the ambient temperature is not suited for charging or the USB cable is not properly connected, or there is a problem with the battery. Disconnect the USB cable or unplug the Charging AC adapter and correctly connect it again, or try a back up battery.

Laptop has worked great for charging the camera but I'm going on an extended trip and will need to use a plug in adapter, which did not come with the camera. I have a couple already, one from an I-Pad, and one for a cell phone, both will be with me on the trip. The I-Pad has +5v/2amp output, and the cellphone has 5v/7amp output; both have the required USB female plug-in. Will either one of these units work without damaging the camera?

Answer:
All Nikon Coolpix cameras have an auto switching (from 100v to 240V 50hz/60hz) battery charger that will work in most countries around the world. AC adapters have similar characteristics. Always check the specification plate on your other battery chargers or AC adapters as third party products may not support dual voltage systems. We do not suggest the use of third party battery chargers and AC adapters with Nikon equipment.
Note that the power cord included with some Nikon chargers or AC adapter is designed for 110 volt use only. A power cord suitable for the local power system should be obtained on arrival, most airport shops and computer suppliers will carry these items which are typically used for laptop computer power supply connections. Be sure that the new cord you buy fits the Nikon adapter you wish to use it with and that it is rated for the voltage in your new location. While not recommended, a simple plug adapter may be used, but caution should be taken as the cord Nikon supplies is not rated for the higher voltage and may heat or fail.
Some newer Coolpix have included an AC Adapter, like the EH-68P AC adapter, for plugging directly into a wall outlet without the use of a power cord. As with previous chargers, the correct adapter must be acquired for the country traveled to, and fitted to the Nikon AC adapter to allow proper AC connection to the wall outlet.

The charger is loose fitting into the adapter socket and will not allow the camera to charge. This can only be done using the cable directly into the computer and I do not take my computer on holiday with me!
I am therefore looking for an alternative plug which will be more reliable to use.

Answer:
I only know what it says on page 9 of the Quick Start Guide:

Push the plug adapter firmly until it is securely held in place. Once the two are connected, attempting to forcibly remove the plug adapter could damage the product.

There are no more instructions, and there is no mention of how you can remove the plug adapter. It is my assumption that once it is seated properly it cannot be removed. I also searched the complete manual on CD and found no mention of how to remove the plug adapter either.

I bought a floor demo Coolpix S4100, and the dealer mistakenly gave me the MH-63 charger and not the EH-69P charger. The battery it came with died, (but it may have been close to dead because it was the floor model), and I bought a new one last night. It charged ok with the MH-63, but I want to know if the MH-63 will kill the new battery also.

The appropriate cable to use when connecting your COOLPIX to the EH-69P will vary depending on which COOLPIX model you are using. Most COOLPIX cameras that use the EH-69P connect via the UC-E6 cable, but to be sure please see this page on NikonUSA.com: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

Refer to the picture on Page 1 of the S01 manual. The charger has a dent on the topside, paralleled to the space between the two prong plugs when facing up. The dent is there to hold the adapter firmly when attached. You will need lift up the the adapter piece from the dent on the charger and pull the adapter out.
