Nikon 1 V2
Best compact digital camera I've owned to-date...
I've been bouncing back and forth between Canon and Nikon's smaller offerings.
A rangefinder is a must for me. I tried a few different lenses but have since settled on the 10-30mm and 30-100mm. Everything is light, 5fps at full-res and small but the picture quality is amazing! I typically shoot P, A or S and typically restrict ISO to the lower range and always RAW. I've been using the included ViewNX2 software as well -- very pleased with that too.
I never use the video features -- not sure why the camera folks keep promoting HD video. We all have smartphones for those short videos.
Don't waste your time with Coolpix (except the DX sensor one they just introduced). Extremely pleased with my second year with my V2.

Back In The Serious Photo Game
I just purchased this camera (10-30mm, 30-110mm and 18.0mm/f1.8 lenses) and my first impression out of the box is complete awe. I did not want a full-sized DSLR, but wanted to make a quantum leap from a point and shoot camera/iPhone. THIS IS IT!!!
Photos are exquisite. Ease of use is beyond my expectations. Handling and weight are perfect for my use. I do not want to be a National Geographic photographer, but I feel like one with this in my hands. Passion and creativity are now unleashed.
Before this purchase we talked to several photographers at the Cincinnati Zoo when the tulips were in full glory. They convinced me that I wanted a Nikon over other excellent brands.
Our upcoming trip to Vancouver, Colorado and Alaska will be the first major use. Waterfalls, rivers, salmon fishing, glaciers, whales, gardens, etc. await to be captured.
If anyone is thinking about this camera, get it!!!

Overall a very competent camera
I purchsed this camera with the specific goals that (1) it would take acceptable image quality , (2) the video would be very good, (3) it would take my existing Nikon lenses and (4) it would fit in a coat pocket. All the goals seem to have been met. I was pleasantly surprised at how tough the camera feels. It seems very robust and able to withstand the challenges of going into nature. The video controls have been greatly enhanced with the HD Video setting on the mode dial. I can move into video very easily with one click and my settings, manual aperture and shutter speed, are remembered. The video screen includes an exposure meter, which is very helpful. Not as good as a live view histogram but close enough. Image quality is very good though the files require some sharpening in post. (I have the sharpening turned way todwn in the camera and I shoot only in raw.) Of course, it isn't a D800, but that's not the point. Overall, I'm quite pleased.

FT-1 V2 Powerhouse
My back and neck hurts from years of lugging around heavy SLR/DSLR gear. The V2 looked ideal. And it was. I took it on a transatlantic cruise with multiple stops. Results were outstanding. However when I returned, my large inventory of AI/AIS lenses beckoned to me. I bought an FT-1 adapter. I used these lenses in aperture priority mode, fixed ISO. The V2 will meter and adjust shutter speed. This effectively simulates a Nikon F3. I shot some hummingbirds with the 180/2.8 ED AIS. Results were stunning. Next I tackled my 500/8 Mirror. Although not listed as compatible, the reason is the tripod mount on the 500/8 interferes with the FT-1 tripod mount. Simple matter to remove the lens tripod mount by removing two screws from the 500/8. Then you have a lightweight 1350mm f/8 lens that you can hand hold! Or use a tripod on the FT-1. At ISO 1600 results were excellent. A great nature rig that's got a V2 as a rear lens cap!! Another great use is with the 60/2.8 Micro-nikkor AIS. Macro shots demand manual focus anyway so this pair wins again.

Looks small but acts big!
Bought this camera because I didn't want to lug a large camera on a trip to Dublin, Ireland bought 1 V2 with 4 lens and flash and extra battery. Have a small backpack to store everything. I love the quality of the photos, they look as good as my D80 and its a lot less to lug around. I have carried it in my pocket on several trips. Just makes life much easier when traveling. I use the 1 V2 all the time.
