Nikon's first 10x Power Drive zoom lens

A versatile 10-100mm power zoom, this lens was developed specifically for shooting movies. The lens features three adjustable zoom speeds to bring coverage variety, plus a voice coil AF motor (VCM) that keeps camera pan-in and pan-out activity silent. Vibration Reduction (VR) reduces the chance of blurred photos. Use this lens to capture everything from portraits to sweeping landscape views.

Silent motor lens perfect for movie making

Capture motion in full HD (1080p) movies

Vary your angles and depth of field with the 10-100mm lens. This lens is equipped with power drive zoom and Vibration Reduction (VR). Also included is the voice coil AF motor (VCM) for quiet autofocusing. Powerful and versatile, your expressions in movie mode will sizzle. Whether working up close with wide view, or framing a horizon in the distance, the 10-100mm lens puts flexibility into your workflow.

Wide depth of field perfect for portrait to landscape

Subjects framed to precision

Command extended depth of field with the 10-100mm and isolate subjects from their backgrounds for both photos and video. Equipped with Vibration Reduction (VR), the 10-100mm is ideal for movie recording, as well as photo capture sharpness. The 10-100mm 1 NIKKOR lens applies three ED and two aspherical lens elements to ensure only the highest quality and color images—even at the widest aperture settings—are obtained. The HRI (High Refractive Index) lens element keeps lens compact while offering superior contrast at even maximum aperture.

Move in closer

Shoot from afar

Use the amazing reach of the 10-100mm and bring subjects close. Get right in the action by maximizing to the full 100mm and retain sharpness at 2.8 feet from your subject. Even at this magnification photos and movies come out crystal clear and sharp courtesy of Vibration Reduction (VR).
Vibration Reduction icon

Vibration Reduction

This innovative VR system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake. It allows handheld shooting at dusk, at night, and even in poorly lit interiors. The lens' VR system also detects automatically when the photographer pans—no special mode is required.
High Refractive Index lens icon

High Refractive Index lens

With a refractive index of more than 2.0, one HRI lens can offer effects equivalent to those obtained with several normal glass elements and can compensate for both field curvature and spherical aberrations. Therefore, HRI lenses achieve great optical performance in an even more compact body.
Internal Focusing icon

Internal Focusing

Imagine being able to focus a lens without it changing in size. Nikon's IF technology enables just that. All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the nonextending lens barrel. This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction as well as a closer focusing distance.
Aspherical lens element icon

Aspherical lens element

Aspherical lenses virtually eliminate the problem of coma and other types of lens aberration—even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting the distortion in wideangle lenses. In addition, use of aspherical lenses contributes to a lighter and smaller lens design.
Extra-low Dispersion Glass icon

Extra-low Dispersion Glass

Nikon developed ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to enable the production of lenses that offer superior sharpness and color correction by minimizing chromatic aberration. ED glass offers all the benefits, yet none of the drawbacks of calcium fluorite-based glass. With this innovation, Nikon developed several types of ED glass suitable for various lenses.
Nikon Super Integrated Coating icon

Nikon Super Integrated Coating

To enhance the performance of its optical lens elements, Nikon employs an exclusive multilayer lens coating that helps reduce ghost and flare to a negligible level. Nikon Super Integrated Coating achieves a number of objectives, including minimized reflection in the wider wavelength range and superior color balance and reproduction.

Amazing! This lense is amazing. I am by no means an expert photographer but I can take photos that look like one took them. I hardly use the other two lenses. I highly recommend this lense. Just a tidbit I learned about from Fort Worth Camera. There is an adapter u can buy for this camera that allows u to use any Nikon lense. If u are in FW, I highly recommend this store. I bought my lense there. I could not find it where I lived. They are hard to find. May 14, 2012
Wow, great lens for video I have used this lens to make several videos. It works great on the V1, smooth zooming and extremely quiet. I would recommend this lens to anyone planning to use the V1 for video. March 24, 2012
Wonderful lens for video and landscape I recently bought this lens when it went on sale at Henry's Cameras. I've used it for some client videos and it is a very capable video lens, especially if you use the zoom very slowly it almost creates the feeling of a dolly shot. I've also been using this lens for landscape photography since I can easily mount my 77mm polarizing filter on it with a step-up ring. Results have been excellent. June 16, 2014
Amazing Lens! I personally love this lens! I can go out and not take the other nikkor 1 lenses as this lens is capable of everything they are so there is less bulk while traveling. This said it does take some getting used to, having such a huge lens (relative to the 10-30 kit lens) on such a small camera body, but once you get used to it it is amazing! the zoom is extremely smooth and practically silent, great for videos. the only issue I found was that when you are using the included petal hood and the standard flash you can get a shadow in the image as the flash is not quite tall enough to avoid the hood. but other than this small issue this is my new favourite lens for my J1! The best 10x zoom on the market today In my opinion, the 10-100 /4.5-5.6VR PD-Zoom lens is the best single technical achievement in Nikon 1 line of lenses and bodies. Probably it is the best 10x zoom on the market today and makes both kit lenses 10-30 and 30-110 obsolete. February 10, 2013

Is clicking/rattling sound normal on the 10-100mm?

I received a new 10-100mm lens together with a new V1 body. As I unpacked the lens, I noticed clicking/rattling noise from inside the lens. The noise sounded like loose parts.

Once mounted on the V1 body, the noise was still there albeit less severe. The V1 camera did recognize the lens so that is good. I didn't proceed to shoot any pics or video as I was not sure whether the lens was faulty and didn't want to risk further damages.

Anyone else having this issue? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks, dave

P.S. I posted same question to Nikon Support a couple of days ago but no reply yet.

Answer:
The 1Nikkor 10-100mm Power Zoom Lens should not make a rattling noise with slight or normal movement but will with vigorous movment (which is not recommended). If you are hearing the noise with normal movement and you have not yet received an answer to your posting to Nikon Support please contact Nikon Technical Support by phone. Answer:
Nikon operates factories all across the globe and each operates to the same high standard. While individual cameras are marked with their country of manufacture, we cannot make a blanket statement about the country of origin of a specific type/model of camera.

Getting Error Message while on J1 using 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM w/ v1.01

The L Firmware is already at 1.01, the camera A/B is at 1.40. I can create this error message if I zoom all the way in and attempt to auto-focus. Turning the camera off and then on again clears the error message until the next time it appears. I am curious, the AF Assist light on the J1 body doesn't clear this lens, should AF assist be disabled?

Note: The attached picture was used to display the error message and is not from my J1, but I have the same error message
