Small But Powerful Speedlight The Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight is an excellent accessory for the Nikon 1 camera body line. It draws its power from the camera body, thus reducing its size. The flash head is directional and offers many lighting solutions for every image. As an outdoor fill flash, it is superb. See the image below that was taken in complete shade. November 26, 2014
Small but powerful! This unit is smaller than one anticipates even after having seen photographs of it on the website. It is powered by the camera battery and once turned on manually from the rear can be controlled thereafter by the camera. Bounce lighting is fine in a room with 8-10 foot ceilings and white or light paint surfaces. Even direct lighting was reasonably pleasant. December 6, 2011

The Nikon staff previously answered with regards to using the flash when recording movies:

"If you're working in less than adequate light while creating a Motion Snapshot or using Smart Photo Selector, attach the Speedlight and keep everything exposed properly. The SB-N5 Speedlight steps up to serve as a continuous light source for up to six seconds.

My first question is: Will there be an update released that allows the SB-N5 to serve during the 5 seconds Slow Motion (movie) option, as this function seems most sensitive to low light.

My second question is: Where (at the Net) would it be natural to submit such an feature request ?

Answer:
Make sure your camera Mode Dial is not set to Video mode. It should be set to the green camera Icon when using the flash. Reset the camera shooting menu by pressing the menu button, highlight the "camera Icon" on the left side of your screen using the camera multi selector, then highlight "Reset shooting menu" and press Ok. If you have the SB-N5 switch set to ON, and the red indicator light is not showing, I would suggest you contact tech support for further troubleshooting.
