Throw light on your world

When you need more light, or are looking to add a creative touch to illumination, use the new Nikon 1 Speedlight. Plug this compact i-TTL compatible flash unit into the Nikon 1 V1 camera's multi-accessory hot shoe. Angle the flash up, down, left or right and bounce light to precise advantage. The flash can double as a continuous light source illuminating for six seconds during both Motion Snapshot and Smart Photo Selector modes. Extra batteries not required—the camera powers the SB-N5 Speedlight.

Plug into hot shoe and go

Flash that's compact and ready to use in an instant

Working in an environment that's dimly lit or full of backlighting? Shed light on your subject. Make important details pop, let subjects stand apart from their backgrounds. Plug this compact i-TTL compatible flash unit into the Nikon 1 V1 camera's multi-accessory hot shoe and go!

More expression through creative flash options

Lighting just as you like

Looking to put even more expression to photos with the addition of creative light variety? Play it up! Experiment and invent novel looks using the new Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight and bend the light just as you like. With ease, swivel the Speedlight up, down, left or right and bounce light where and how you desire.

Continuous light source option for long exposure needs

Keep images illuminated

If you're working in less than adequate light while creating a Motion Snapshot or using Smart Photo Selector, attach the Speedlight and keep everything exposed properly. The SB-N5 Speedlight steps up to serve as a continuous light source for up to six seconds.

Small but powerful! This unit is smaller than one anticipates even after having seen photographs of it on the website. It is powered by the camera battery and once turned on manually from the rear can be controlled thereafter by the camera. Bounce lighting is fine in a room with 8-10 foot ceilings and white or light paint surfaces. Even direct lighting was reasonably pleasant. December 6, 2011

Look for older Metz Mecablitz, I have a FM2 w/MD and a Metz 402 Mecablitz--great combo and the Metz is good upto 100 ft but can be brought down for close portraits.

Answer:
Not the SB-N5 it's for Nikon 1 cameras. Any of the older speedlights are fine, see if you can find a used SB 21 or even a SB 600 (a little overkill).

Answer:
The new SB-N5 was specifically created for the Nikon 1 V1, is not part of the CLS. However, you can set the SB-900 to SU-4 in order to convert it in a optical slave but, the SB-900 can only be set in Manual mode.
