Nikon 1 V1 Users:
The AS-N1000 Multi Accessory Port Adapter must be used to attach the ME-1 Stereo Microphone to the Nikon 1 V1 camera body.

great for videos and just recording in general very good product with to settings flat and low cut witch both are very useful. i take it everywhere an dit is nice and small it fits in my camera bag perfectly. it works great with my nikon d5100. January 7, 2013
Good product that does what it says it will do. Extremely sensitive, reduces wind buffeting to an acceptable level. Picks up conversations many yards away as well as all ambient noises. It also eliminates internal mechanical sounds caused by image stabilizing function and other unwanted camera noises. Good product that does what it says it will do. May 3, 2012
Great Mic! I used the mic while I videoed a 3.5 hour workshop. Rather than keep the mic on the hot shoe, I used three six foot coaxial audio cables (lossless) so that I could stay as far back as possible from the speaker and still get great sound. My only complaint is that the speaker either had to hold the mic or keep it in his lap, as the screw hole diameter on the bottom of the ME-1 was larger than the one on the tripod I would otherwise have used as my stand. August 6, 2011
Fantastic I have tried the microphone on a D7000 and absolutely love it for HDR movies. I am just waiting for my own to arrive in the mail this week. A must have. May 2, 2011
Cure for noisy old AF lenses This is a welcome addition to DSLRs that have only a monophonic built-in microphone. Note that, while the ME-1 works with the Nikon 1-V1, the mounting foot won't fit the accessory shoe mount, which is too close to the eye level view finder anyway. Since the V1 has a built in stereo mic, this is not a big issue. I had found that my old 28-105 zoom lens made a lot of autofocus squeals, so moving the microphone off the camera body was very important if I want to use that old but excellent lens for video on my D800. I just asked a question about power, but in the answer, Nikon staff said the ME-1 is "not compatible with the P7000".

However, on the compatibility page, you clearly say that it is.
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Miscellaneous/27045/ME-1-Stereo-Microphone.html#tab-ProductDetail.ProductTabs.CompatibleWith

The ME-1 is also listed on the P7000's Accessories page
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26233/COOLPIX-P7000.html#tab-ProductDetail.ProductTabs.Accessories

I have seen elsewhere that the ME-1 is supposedly compatible with both the D7000 and P7000.

Can you clear up why an answer was given that the ME-1 is *not* compatible with the P7000??

Thanks

I've done tests with the mic mounted on and off the hot shoe of my D7000 and there is no difference in sound. Also, I see no contacts on the mounting foot of the ME-1. It also has a tripod socket for, of course, mounting off the camera! So I guess the power comes through the cable from the mic input socket.

I had a simple point and shoot camera that I used to record videos of cousin's high school concerts. Will this microphone be "good" for that or should I get something like the Rode Stereo VideoMic instead of this unidirectional design. I am not very familiar with video recording and such using external microphones.

Examples of the "chorus" setting can be seen in the link provided. There is only one space for a video link, the setting is the same for the second video link I was going to provide, however, replace the singing with violin playing.

ME-1 Stereo Microphone vs After Market Microphones.

Hello:

Just purchased a Nikon D5100 bundle package this past fall after being absent from the photographic community for 15 years.

I'm looking into buying some accessories and staying within budget. I've seen this microphone advertised online through a reputable dealer for around $130.00, but I've also seen other stereo microphones offered by the same dealer for half the price. Especially when the claim to do the same thing. What are some of the perks or incentives of buying a Nikon brand verses an after market brand?

I certainly don't want to go through the time and expense of buying and returning with the possibility of being stuck with something I don't like because of the sellers strick return policy.

Thanks.

I have attached the ME-1 as indicated in the owner's manual, attached the cable accordingly and made sure the microphone is on. When comparing the same subject with and without the ME-1 I did not notice any appreciable difference between the two, making me wonder if a) I somehow attached incorrectly, or 2) it was worth the money paid for it.

I am using a D7000.

Answer:
Select FLAT for normal use, L-CUT to reduce wind noise and other low-frequency noise. Note that noise may be recorded if the switch is operated during recording. Turn the built-in or external microphone on or off or to adjust microphone sensitivity. Selecting Microphone off turns sound recording off; selecting any other option turns recording on and sets the microphone to the selected sensitivity. Also check the camera's user's manual for any microphone sensitivity settings.

I recently shot interviews with my D7100 and even though I was using lav mics, still had tons of noise from built-in microphone. Since the ME-1 is made for Nikon cameras, will it override or cancel the built-in mic when it's plugged in correctly? I would hate to have to tape over the built-in mic anytime I need to record audio. Thank you!
