Good product that does what it says it will do.
Extremely sensitive, reduces wind buffeting to an acceptable level. Picks up conversations many yards away as well as all ambient noises. It also eliminates internal mechanical sounds caused by image stabilizing function and other unwanted camera noises. Good product that does what it says it will do.

Great Mic!
I used the mic while I videoed a 3.5 hour workshop. Rather than keep the mic on the hot shoe, I used three six foot coaxial audio cables (lossless) so that I could stay as far back as possible from the speaker and still get great sound.
My only complaint is that the speaker either had to hold the mic or keep it in his lap, as the screw hole diameter on the bottom of the ME-1 was larger than the one on the tripod I would otherwise have used as my stand.

Fantastic
I have tried the microphone on a D7000 and absolutely love it for HDR movies. I am just waiting for my own to arrive in the mail this week.
A must have.

Why is this mic listed as an accessory for the V1?
This mic is incorrectly showing up as an accessory for the new V1. It is a mic which mounts in a standard sized hotshoe. But since the V1 has a proprietary accessory shoe standard shoe mounted accessories will not fit.

Your website says it does. I would love to get this for my D3100 but there is only an A/V Out port, but it seems to be a 3.5mm jack, similar to the MIC port in the D5100 and D7000.

Answer:
There's no MIC input on the D3100 and the 3.5mm jack is for AV output only. So unless Nikon has something up their sleeve it's very unlikely that this will work with the D3100.Hopefully we can get an answer directly from Nikon on this one.

I can't see what "this" is can you provide a model #? :)
I need to purchase an external microphone for my iphone to do better audio recordings. And since I have an ME-1 already (for my D5100), I thought I'd try connecting it to the iphone. Even though the connector fits, the iphone doesn't seem to recognize or utilize the ME-1. Has anybody else tried this?

I was able to find a cable which would allow me to connect the ME-1 to an iPhone (it won't work without an adapter). The good news is that the ME-1 does a great job of filtering out background noise compared to the built-in iPhone 4s microphone. Unfortunately, the audio level of the ME-1 drops off considerably as you move farther away from the subject when compared to the built-in microphone. So that's a trade-off.May 31, 2012 by

I can't tell if this actually receives power from the hot shoe, or if it's really an unpowered dynamic microphone.
I really like the idea of a powered condenser mic that receives its power from the hot shoe, because I don't want to have to worry about yet 1 more battery (plus, with no headphone output to monitor your source, you don't know if your mic battery dies in the middle of shooting when this is paired w/Nikon cameras). However, most of the hot shoe powered mics out there also transmit audio through the "advanced hot shoe", which clearly won't work for the Nikon D7000 & P7000...
If this mic really does get power from the hot shoe (no batteries, yay!) and transmits audio through the 3.5mm cable, then that's perfect.
Thanks

The power for the ME-1 is supplied by the camera via the hot shoe. The ME-1 is not compatible with the P7000.

Does this get in the way of the built-in flash? When is this released to sell?
Will this stop the buiit-in flash to open up? And when will this become available to purchase?

Answer:
it shouldn't be in the way. as you can see on the image, the mic's got a "leg" that keeps it sufficiently away from the pop-up flash. however, in video mode the flash won't work anyway, so it shouldn't be a bother either way.
Anyone know when this product will be sold at retailers?
