Filter not affect the optical formula but you will need to refocus after install it.

The 200-400, by the way, is an F/4, but yes it uses a drop in filter holder that can use 52mm filters.

Are you sure this dedicated slip-in filter holder can be used on 200-400/4G lens?

I checked the 200/2.8G and 200-400/4G lens in the nikon store,and find the different holder styles for this two items. For official intruducation,this holder is only for 200/2.8G lens.So i wonder your answer.

The lens comes with the 52mm Slip-in Circular Polarizing Filter. We double checked and you can use the 52mm (this size only) dedicated Filter Holder.
