I have always been a fan of ViewNX 2, until I recently installed it to a new HP Core I7 Laptop with 8.00 GB Memory and two very large disks. Operating system is Windows 8 64bit, I also transferred the file and folder structure from my previous Mobile Toshiba Laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit,.where ViewNX 2 had been running flawlessly.
ViewNX 2 has also been performing flawlessly on my Windows Vista 64 bit desktop computer.
I have downloaded and installed S-VNX2__-020706WF-EUREN-64BIT_, the most recent update and also have removed the Microsoft NEF codac and replaced ir with the latest Nikon NEF codac I also removed the previously installed version of ViewNX 2 and then ran the Nikon Registry cleaner. The newly installed version works somewhat better, but the following are its most negative aspects:
1. It takes 3-4 minutes for the Transfer utility to recognise my D7000 when I connect it via a USB port.
2. Transfer of picture files proceeds quickly, once D7000 is identified. However, the ViewNX2 Browser etc takes up to 8 mins for any of its application windows to appear. It is running during this waiting time as a pure background task..
3 When starting ViewNX 2 manually, it runs also as a background task (seen in Task Manager) for about 8 mins before any indication of its state appears, neither a message box or the application user interface. When the application window does eventually appear, the thumb nails come up fairly quickly after selecting a folder. However, when trying to zoom in on a a thumbnail, the application becomes unresponsive for an appreciable time, before the zoomed view appears.
Any help would be appreciated as I really treasured the application when running under Windows Vista 32/64.
