Easily browse, edit and share images and movies with the free all-in-one ViewNX 2 Software.
ViewNX 2 provides a range of easy-to-use, enjoyable features that the ordinary software supplied with a PC's OS cannot offer. In addition to basic data importing and browsing, ViewNX 2 incorporates various frequently used adjust menus and tools such as resize, brightness control, crop and straighten, as well as RAW processing functions and movie-editing features that are equivalent to those found in digital SLRs. Smoother cooperation with Nikon's exclusive image storage and sharing site, Nikon Image Space, is also made possible. This all-in-one browsing/editing software package supplied with Nikon digital cameras will let more photographers fully enjoy digital images, more easily.
Enhanced image-editing functions
Crop, Straighten, Auto Red-Eye and Auto Lateral Color Aberration are newly added considering their high frequency of use by general photographers

Good So Far Have the software running Win 7/64 on Pavilion dv6-3150 Intel i5. The software is stable and easy to use. I just took a still from an HD Video and placed it in Adobe InDesign, output to Kindle with no problem, 1/25/13. I'll report back from time to time as I do more. January 25, 2013
Super picture viewer Hi Super image viewer and fast program. Very easy to use and the program is integrated with Nikon's Capture NX2 and "My picture town" Really good. sincerely The happy ameteur photographer with his Nikon V1. PNOR October 15, 2012
Great Initial Workflow Program for RAW Files. I find ViewNX 2 a very stable and useful first step program when dealing with a full shoot of RAW files. It lets me view and do basic editing on the entire album, and integrates seamlessly with Photoshop 6 for photos requiring more advanced work. The Album View layout is also very well done. June 24, 2012
Great for previewing and tagging photographs. Great product that has always been in my workflow. The only thing on my wish list is. that it is not so slow and a memory pig. view nx was a lot faster. June 4, 2012
Huge jump from ViewNX Older version seemed a little clunky, and I could never register PS so that I could open directly from program. ViewNX 2 has solved that issue, plus is a lot faster than any MS or Adobe product. Controls are excellent and well-placed, gives complete metadata and graphics info. It's really loaded with all the right stuff for professionals - I can't believe it's free! Thanks, Nikon, for continued great support of your products. December 2, 2011

Answer:
The Movie Editor in View NX2 allows you to add up to 10 movie files on the Storyboard and supports a total of total of up to 30 movie and image sources on the Storyboard. If you are unable to add more than 4 clips you may want to uninstall the version of View NX2 that you are using and download the newest version (2.6) from this address:

Was using ver 2.5 and it had been working OK. Yesterday, after photos were transferred from the camera, ViewNx began dislaying just white instead of the photo. The photos are OK, nothing is wrong with the JPG. They display fine in Windows Photo Viewer. They just are not showing up in the viewer/edit window. Thumbnails look fine. When clicking a different thumbnail, the photo displays briefly, less than a half second, then is replaced with all white. If the scale is changed, colored dots show up.
I uninstalled ver 2.5. Then, downloaded ver 2.6 and installed it. But ViewNx is doing the same thing.

Answer:
Open the Metadata pane in View NX2, then open the Tags section within that pane. To enter a keyword, type the word in the light gray "Keywords" input box (or choose from a list of previous entered keywords) then click "Add". To delete a keyword highlight the word in the keyword display box and then click "Delete". You can add up to 100 keywords.

For more detailed instructions go to Help>View NX2 in the View NX2 toolbar. Click on the "Search" tab, enter "keywords" in the search then choose "Editing Metadata".

I recently bought an L810 and the video I shot plays smoothly on the camera, but when I transfer it to my laptop via NX2 and play it in the Movie Editor, the video doesn't play as smoothly as it does on the camera. It plays a little choppy with some slowing down.

What am I doing wrong that it does this?

Answer:
If you are looking for free HDR software I would suggest doing an internet search for 'free HDR software'. You will find that most of the free HDR software solutions are nat a good as the commercial software which is available. I have heard that Luminance HDR, Picturenaut and Fusion are good programs, but that there are degrees of diffuculty with each and limitations to each. I personally use Adobe Photoshop CS plus Topaz Labs Adjust and am very satisfied with them. You will need to find the program which you are most comfortable with. There are many reviews of both the free HDR software and the commercial software on the internet. My chosen software is only as good as your Photo processing workflow and what you feel comfortable with. Many of the commercial versions have a 30 free usage before they expire giving someone the ability to test it prior to buying it.

Do the Internet search and test the various software which exists out there and decide for yourself what you are most comfortable and satisfied using.

I am using Windows 7 (64-bit). After installing the latest version of ViewNX2 I can no longer make it the default program for opening .nef files. The default is currently photoshop cs6. I've gone through the Windows control panel utility to change the default application and selected ViewNX2.exe. I do not get any error messages and the default program still shows up as photoshop cs6. I have ViewNX2 2.7.1 64-bit installed.

Answer:
When you go into the 'Associate a file type...' option in control panel, and then select ViewNX2.exe as the dafault program, is the CheckBox labeled 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' beneath the list of programs checked? If not, are you able to check it? If it is not checked and you are not able to check it then that is your problem. You might need to be an Administrator on the computer to make this change.
There are some issues with setting file associations to programs in Windows Vista and Windows 7. You might need to search the internet to find a solution if the above suggestion does not help. This does not sound like an issue with ViewNX as opposed to an issue with Windows. If you end up doing a search on the internet you will find quite a few people have this problem with associating files to programs in Windows 7 and there are many suggested paths to resolve it.

Two questions:

1) Is it possible to view the focus distance of a NEF in the View NX 2 image information window? If not, can this feature be added as it would be very useful.

2) It would be even more helpful if the the focus distance was displayed by the camera body on the info screen/histogram during Image Review/Playback. This would be enormously helpful!

Answer:
Focus distance cannot be display by the camera or View NX 2. Focus distances are displayed on select lenses up to a certain feet, then infinitely. Please use the link below to submit your request.

My memory card has photos on it. The card is in slot 1. I attach the USB to the camera with it switched off then switch it on( as advised in the manual) NX2 opens. Under 'source' a camera icon with D7000 appears quickly then disappears. The list off thumbnails says 0. I have used NX2 before with no problems. The only difference now is that my D7000 was returned to Nikon to be looked at as there were serious focussing problems and I believe updates were made to it. Could this be related to my current problem? If so what do I do please? Thanks if you can help.

Answer:
At first try different PC to download your photos. If nothing changes then I would suggest to return it to the service.
