ViewNX 2

Great Initial Workflow Program for RAW Files.
I find ViewNX 2 a very stable and useful first step program when dealing with a full shoot of RAW files. It lets me view and do basic editing on the entire album, and integrates seamlessly with Photoshop 6 for photos requiring more advanced work. The Album View layout is also very well done.

Great for previewing and tagging photographs.
Great product that has always been in my workflow.
The only thing on my wish list is.
that it is not so slow and a memory pig. view nx was a lot faster.

Huge jump from ViewNX
Older version seemed a little clunky, and I could never register PS so that I could open directly from program. ViewNX 2 has solved that issue, plus is a lot faster than any MS or Adobe product. Controls are excellent and well-placed, gives complete metadata and graphics info. It's really loaded with all the right stuff for professionals - I can't believe it's free!
Thanks, Nikon, for continued great support of your products.

It is what it is.
A very good program for viewing your Nikon (NEF) images. It's not meant to be Photoshop CS5! For viewing, rating, and minor editing it does a great job. It is a great second step in my work-flow before I proceed to PS RAW and/or CaptureNX for more advanced editing
November 26, 2011
good product
It is a good product, easy upload from the camera. All my pics are in NEF format and I can read and edit there convert and e-mail or upload. Simple and easy. Also you can open directly the pictures with NX2 for more serious editing work. Basically it is similar interface as Adobe's bridge but can do a little more. Also very useful is all the information that is used. Another similar product is Apple's Photo.

I am using a Nikon D5000 camera with the Nikon GP-1 GPS accessory. I am using Transfer 2 with ViewNX 2 imaging software. It would be very helpful to determine and post on the photo True North orientation.
Thanks.

I noticed that a generated TIFF image from MS ICE would not open in ViewNX 2 or Quicktime PhotoViewer, but worked fine in Google Picasa and PhotoMatix Pro. I posted the above findings on the MS ICE forums, and an MS employee that works on MS ICE responded by saying the generated TIFF includes an alpha channel (important for panoramas) that ViewNX 2 probably doesn't support on TIFFs.

I downloaded ViewNX 2 because I upgraded the operating system on my Mac to Lion. I was able to download photos taken from another camera with transfer software. I reinstalled the old ViewNX, and though it hangs up occassionally, at least I can view those pictures. Is there a solution to this problem, or is this a solitary instance?

The Nikon Transfer software (aka View NX 2) worked great with my iphone 4, but stopped working when I upgraded to OS 5. Now, it does not 'see' my iphone when it is connected to my computer. I have tried the 'search for' button under Source, and it is not found.
Is there a patch or workaround to get view nx 2 to work wtih iphone OS 5?
Thanks!

When I was uploading pictures from my camera, the nikon download software froze, so I had to import my pictures in two separate groups. I named the first file "Roma Day 2" and put it under the subset "Roma" folder. When I uploaded the second half, I named the file also "Roma Day 2" and when I dragged it to be placed also under the "Roma" file, a pop-up came up asking to rename folders, to which I clicked yes, or agree, whichever, and then there was only one folder named "Roma Day 2" and the first half of the pictures I took were not in there, and cannot be found on my computer harddrive or in the trash bin. Where did the pictures go? I had my camera settings to delete pictures once they are taken (to avoid having to delete each of the 500 pictures by hand on the camera) and I did not back up the pictures, which I now know is foolish. Where did the first set of picture files go? How can I get to them?

I'm using ViewNX 2.2.1 to geotag images.
First I go to GeoTag mode.
Then I select an image.
I drop a pin on a location on the map, and click 'OK' to save to current location. However the GPS metadata never changes and the pin just disappears.
Is there something I must enable before being allowed to geotag images?
I have had success with using the Log Matching function, but I would like to tag images recorded when I didn't have my GPS with me, or edit the location when my GPS has low accuracy.

Nikon JI camera and NX 2 software. Videos play well on camera but very slow on computer?
I just received the Nikon J1 as a gift. I installed the NX 2 software onto my computer but when I play the videos on my laptop through the software they play slow and spotty. The sound does not match up with the video. Is there a reason this is happening. The videos play fine on my camera. I have a Windows Vista computer so my operating system is compatible. Also, when I try playing the videos is a different program they don't work?

I have a P80 and a new P500. Can Nikon Transfer and ViewNX2 both operate on the same PC?
When using Nikon Transfer with the P80, each transfer is numbered and this accretes by 1 when it's used. I then add some descriptive info to the filename to better organize and access pictures. When I load the ViewNX2 software, can pictures from the P80 be loaded or must (or can) I continue to use Nikon Transfer for the P80 and ViewNX2 for the P500?
