Easily browse, edit and share images and movies with the free all-in-one ViewNX 2 Software.
ViewNX 2 provides a range of easy-to-use, enjoyable features that the ordinary software supplied with a PC's OS cannot offer. In addition to basic data importing and browsing, ViewNX 2 incorporates various frequently used adjust menus and tools such as resize, brightness control, crop and straighten, as well as RAW processing functions and movie-editing features that are equivalent to those found in digital SLRs. Smoother cooperation with Nikon's exclusive image storage and sharing site, Nikon Image Space, is also made possible. This all-in-one browsing/editing software package supplied with Nikon digital cameras will let more photographers fully enjoy digital images, more easily.
Enhanced image-editing functions
Crop, Straighten, Auto Red-Eye and Auto Lateral Color Aberration are newly added considering their high frequency of use by general photographers

Good So Far Have the software running Win 7/64 on Pavilion dv6-3150 Intel i5. The software is stable and easy to use. I just took a still from an HD Video and placed it in Adobe InDesign, output to Kindle with no problem, 1/25/13. I'll report back from time to time as I do more. January 25, 2013
Super picture viewer Hi Super image viewer and fast program. Very easy to use and the program is integrated with Nikon's Capture NX2 and "My picture town" Really good. sincerely The happy ameteur photographer with his Nikon V1. PNOR October 15, 2012
Great Initial Workflow Program for RAW Files. I find ViewNX 2 a very stable and useful first step program when dealing with a full shoot of RAW files. It lets me view and do basic editing on the entire album, and integrates seamlessly with Photoshop 6 for photos requiring more advanced work. The Album View layout is also very well done. June 24, 2012
Great for previewing and tagging photographs. Great product that has always been in my workflow. The only thing on my wish list is. that it is not so slow and a memory pig. view nx was a lot faster. June 4, 2012
Huge jump from ViewNX Older version seemed a little clunky, and I could never register PS so that I could open directly from program. ViewNX 2 has solved that issue, plus is a lot faster than any MS or Adobe product. Controls are excellent and well-placed, gives complete metadata and graphics info. It's really loaded with all the right stuff for professionals - I can't believe it's free! Thanks, Nikon, for continued great support of your products. December 2, 2011

Answer:
This is an issue with the sharing rights of your folder settings.

If you right-click onto the folder where these photos are and choose "Share with" you can then choose who you want to allow to share with.

Hope this helps.

Answer:
To Nikon staff; there is no way to attach a file following the link you suggested on your reply. That's why I'm answering to my question.

Here below some images from the folder whose opening crashes the application. From some test it seems not to be a NEF problem; I've saved the images in JPG format and the problem happens.

Not able to print photos cropped in View NK 2

I have several raw images I "freecropped" in NK2 and then converted to .jpg files. I took these files to have them printed (at Wolf Camera). As their computers will show you what you're prints will look like, at any size photo, 8 x 10, 10 x 13, 11 x 14, etc. their system would "recrop" my pics cutting off the subjects head and feet. No matter which size I elected to print I would lose a portion of my subject. Is there something I am doing wrong when saving these files such as the size? Is it not possible to convert any photo and print it an any common size? A young woman at Wolf mentioned that this was occuring because of the ratios? Thanks for your help.

Answer:
You will have to crop your images to your desired output size, for example 5x7 or 10x8, free cropping is no good as it is not going to be any print size or ratio hence when you have images printed parts are being cut off.

I have ViewNX 2 version 2.3.2 & MS Outlook. When I select a picture to email from the View NX 2 software, MS Outlook opens with the selected picture attached.
I add text for the message and send the email. The text for the message is not sent - only the picture is sent.
Why does does an email started from the View NX 2 software not contain the text message.

I've been using ViewNX2 for more than a week now to edit photos. I made it through almost 700 of them. All of a sudden, the display of the images totally messed up (while I was using the program).
I checked all the image editing options and nothing seems to be wrong.
The photos look normal and open fine in any other image viewing program. They also display correctly for a split second before switching to the all white and yellow view.
Please help!

Answer:
It looks like your View NX2 is set to "Show Lost Shadows". You can disable this by right-clicking on the image and unchecking "Show Lost Shadows". This can also be disabled by unchecking "Show Lost Shadows" in the "Image" section of the toolbar. If you'd like to know more about the "Show Lost Shadows" option go to View NX2 Help in the Help menu, search for "Lost Shadows", and choose the topic "Showing Lost Shadows".

Dear,

is there somewhere a list of metadata fields ? Do variable fields exists ?

While transferring files and working with ViewNX2 itself, in the IPTC Description field, I would like to write something like

" Photo {file name without extension}. {Country} {City} blabla. Date : {creation date} Author : {author}"

The result being : Photo 12345. USA Chicago blabla. Date : 01-01-2014 Author : Philippe

Answer:
Keith,

I am not sure that this is the answer to my question. I used ViewNX for 7 years now and yes, I can fill metadata fields manually and see which metadata info can be filled in manually.

I would like to reduce that amount of manual typewriting in metadata fields and would like to fill data automatically. Some kind of programming. Look again at my example above.

Answer:
After you have adjusted your image make you save it, a pop up box will automatically open if you dont click the save button. Once your copy has been saved you can use it as is or convert it, if you convert it save it to a new folder so you can find it easily, you can then upload to fb via this folder.
If you are not saving the file after adjustment then this could be why its converting back to original state when you move it to your desktop.

In previous versions of ViewNX 2 it was possible to set filter to "NEF" format and then if ViewNX 2 was closed after starting it again filter was still what it was before it was closed, i.e. "NEF". In current versions, it doesn't matter what user chose in filter, when ViewNX 2 is started filter shows "All"

Answer:
It should install as any normal program should. Is it in your start menu in the program list. If not you may want to try and reinstall it as it should work without having to plug anything in.

Hello,

I appreciate view NX 2 and the way it handles NEF files. However, I find that there are random .NEF's that simply won't export. When I do a big batch of NEFs that I'm trying to convert to TIFF for more processing via photoshop CS5, there are specific files that will cause ViewNX 2 to get an unknown error and stop the conversion process. When I try to convert that .NEF specifically, it's a no go.

I'm shooting with a d7000. I feel like ViewNX 2 is an incredible program for my work flow, but some of the problems I'm running in to definitely slow things down - I would definitely appreciate any help I can get in resolving this. Thank you!
