Wonderful platform but PUHLEESE keep it updated with Nik Plugins I've used this product for three years and was thrilled that it was updated to work with the new Lion OS. Let me be perfectly c;ear, this is a great product. The shortcomings are that updates are slow and sporadic and it doesn't work with the Nik plug-ins except the old Color Efex 3. I would NEVER use anything but NX2 if they would just keep it updated quicker and let Nik make all their plug-ins compatible. This is the most intuitive editing software I've ever used. January 16, 2012
powerful program I have been using Nikon Capture since version 1.0. Since then Nikon Capture NX2 has been like a third hand for me. The processing of RAW NEF captures is phenomenal to be fair explaining the many features of this software would take a novel. If were to choose the features that I feel are the foundation of this program the Set Grey Point under Camera settings and the Color Control Point would have to be at the top of this very long list. Holding the history of the processing is such an important feature of this program. For another feature is the Nik Color Effects program as an added tool. Most of the other Nik features are within NX2. September 22, 2011
Makes it easy to edit photos There are some cool features to Capture NX2 that make it easy to turn a goof phot into a great one and repair some things a novice sometimes does. September 12, 2011
Capture N X 2 I think this is a wonderful product, and it does everything that I need it to do. It is the only product that I use for processing all my images. There is nothing I can say bad about this July 28, 2011
Simple to use; chockfull of features; great result Love the way quick fix handles the light and dark. I owned some other products that I haven't gone back to since I've had nx2. Maybe I haven't learned how but copy and paste feature is difficult to use. April 14, 2011

Nikon Transfer is only for importing your images from your camera or memory card reader attached to your computer.

Nikon Transfer do not do any exporting of images from Capture NX 2.

Hope this helps.

Answer:
From my experience, unless the upgrade to W7x64 is accompanied by upgrading your hardware to ALL modern components you will not notice much difference. Oh, and as of version 2.3.0 the Capture NX 2 software does run as a native 64 bit application (can download the installer from Nikon's website) and so will be able to access much more RAM than most consumer motherboards can be stuffed with.

However, with modern hardware, and careful attention to using quality components to build it, everything else will be fast enough to really let the 8GB RAM be utilized. (note: unless you are working with very large NEF files, making many changes, and keeping several NEF files open at the same time, there is a good chance you will not consume more than 1 or 2 GB of RAM)

Remember, computer systems are complete SYSTEMS. Even more so than photography, performance of software can be handicapped by just one part being a bottleneck. Also, 64 bit OS and software does NOT mean faster, but it does allow you to address more RAM natively.

Hope this helps and I wasn't too long winded. :) Cheers!

At what Bit Depth does Capture NX2 process the Nikon RAW NEF files. I just purchased a D7000 and have it set at 14bits. The editing software I currently use, Adobe Premier Elements 9, only processes at an 8bit level. Also, what is the current addition software release of NX2. i.e. 2.01

I have the Capture NX2 Software. Previous to purchasing it I had dl'ed the trial version which I then deleted upon arrival of he software. Now it states, when tying to load the software that a newer version is already installed yet I am not able to locate the software anywhere on my system. I am using a new VAIO with an AMD Athlon II P340 Dual Core 2.20 Ghz. It is a 64 bit OS running Windows 7.

Can anyone please advise?

Hi there, just looking to see if the support is worth the purchase :)

I'm nearing the end of the free trial phase and have been plagued by a specific error that seems many with Core I3 and I7 processors have...

I have windows 7 computer, 6 gigs of ram, I3 core processor, 3.something gigahertz.

Whenever I edit large batches of photos for weddings or other large events, inevitably I always get the "dreaded ding of doom" meaning when I double click a thumbnail to bring up to full size in the center of the screen to edit it, when i click on the main image area to edit it, it just does the windows "ding" noise, and I can't do anything further except shut the program down and restart it.

Lightroom is starting to look better and better, though I'd really prefer to stay with native nikon software for my nikon d700.

Let me know what I can do about this error.

P.S ive already done the whole go into the tab proprities and run with xp compatibility, doesn't solve anything.

In the edit list, at the top, click on Version and then New Version, give it a name and then click OK. Then go to file and then click save, or shortcut CTRL+S. You can do this for any amount of adjustments and save each version, when you open the image again you will then be able to select which version you want just by selecting it from the Version drop down.

I have the CAPTURE NX v1.3.5 and the valid key is:64459-*****-*****-*****-***97.
According to your info :Choose from the Full Version (Product Number 25385) or the reduced-price Upgrade Version (Product Number 25386) which requires a valid serial number from version 1.x of Capture NX.

I wish I could get the upgrade.

There is an asterisk in the tech specs for the Capture NX 2 software which says the the OS (either XP or VISTA) should be 32-bit preinstalled versions. What does the pre-installed mean?

I'd like to continue using iPhoto ('09, v8.1.2) as the main cataloging and management tool. Will the latest NX2 (I only have NX1 now) work with it. My Mac is running 10.6.8 and currently NX1 and View NX2 both say that can't find the files that iPhoto uses. If it matters, I shoot primarily RAW.
