Great flash unit, read the instrutions first.. Hello, purchased this flash 2 months ago after reading alot of reviews. Was concerned about the battery door issues but took the plunge anyway. So far door is no problem, there is a button on the door for opening and closing. If you by pass the button you could have problems. Flash provided excellent light at a event i shot Sat,tried setting flash to manual but it washed out the picture.Even at 1/2 power it was a washout. Had camera in auto mode and program mode. Bouncing in manual rendered excellent results with a 12 ft ceiling in 1/2 power. Great flash. October 2, 2014
Excellent Flash. I have had this flash for a couple of weeks and I am very pleased with the performance so far. It makes a huge difference to my indoor photography. I have mainly been involved in Nature Photography but now am focusing on Indoor/outdoor portrait. I am still playing with all the settings and possibilities. It is an excellent product, which I have no problem highly recommending to any serious photographer, professional, hobbyist, or otherwise. December 26, 2013
Got to love the remote feature alone! Received as a gift for Christmas 2013. Awesome. The fill light that it provides is night and day from ordinary use of the pop-up flash. December 26, 2013
straight forward and more Read the instructions and tested the flash around the house. It can work in a simple mode or handle any complicated task. Seems bullet proof. Exposures are great right out of the box. Will handle wedding receptions and darkly lit areas very well. Great middle weight contender. December 3, 2013
Great product, for low lighting and fast moving children. Increased the quality of my pictures. I didn't want to spend the money on the speed flash but should have done it long ago. I was thinking of buying a new camera because of poor quality in low light. I now use this flash all the time. It has increased the quality of all my pictures. I never thought a speed flash could do so much. It was well worth the money. My pictures are beautiful in all lighting conditions. I have used this product for 4 months now and love it. Thanks for a great product. October 31, 2013

Answer:
The D3200 has no in built commander so you have no wireless cls or ttl, you can put the flash in SU-4 mode and control it by manually setting flash power etc. The only way you would get ttl is to use the SU-800.

Answer:
No, the on board flash has to fire to allow the signal to be sent to the off camera flash, you can set the commander to -- which will not effect the image, though on occasions you will get some residual flash at close range. The only way you would be able to stop this is to use the SU-800.

I have an older D1x and cannot get the SB-700 AF Speedlight to flash from the hotshot or an off camera cable. The hotshot pin pattern sees to be the same as my
D800e (which does work), but does not fire.

Answer:
You can use the SB-700 with the D50 but some features will be limited. When using the SB-700 with the D50 that is not equipped with filter detection, you will need to set the camera’s white balance according to the filter in use while referring to the table in the SB-700's user's manual. Also, you won't be able to update the firmware of the speedlight with the D50.
