I recommend SB-700 flash i use SB-700 AF Speed light more than 1 year.. its perfect... and its also have master slave mode... so that's very helpful for covering a occasions with ttl balance... by the way, its so cheep with its functions... January 31, 2012
so far no issues! I got this flash the other day and right out of the box it worked and gave me amazing results. i bought this flash for a project I've been working on and i think it should be perfect. this flash is a must buy for anyone who is doing portraits in a studio January 15, 2012
Speed light 700 This is an amazing speedlight...It works wireless with the D. Very happy with it.5100 December 13, 2011
Excellent value After using my Nikon 18-35 mm lens and getting a shadow I knew I had to purchase a quality external flash. I chose Nikon because I know the flash will be forward compatible with the D800 when it is introduced. The SB-700 fits my needs perfectly. It was easy to use out of the box. The bounce and swivel features give me the coverage I need. I used the flash this week on a trip. My only complaint is with the Incandescent filter. My wife has olive skin. The filter gave her an unnatural hue. I used Photoshop to give her more nature skin tonalities. The florescent filter did a good job under harsh lighting conditions. I did not have any problem with the battery compartment or navigating thru the on-board menus. This is my third Nikon upgrade in the last 12 months. It was a good purchase. December 10, 2011
My 1st flash and 2nd and 3rd as well. Simple to use, everything is in the menu, and full information is in the manual provided. Works brilliantly with my D7000 with my camera as the commander. The commander built-in option at e3 could control 2 groups on flashes, and it could adjust the power settings, even use TTL for one group and Manual for the other for the SB700. That is very versatile. Interestingly though, there are options for 3 groups on the SB700. Which means that either a SU-800 is needed if one wants to control each group individually. Or, a firmware upgrade for either the D700 or D7000 will finally allow the camera to control each of the 3 groups individually. I am keeping my fingers crossed. As mentioned by previous commenter, the lock switch to the Remote and Master might be a bit redundant. I imagine only very careless users will turn all the way to the Remote or Master without realizing. The control dial is nice with a gorgeous clicking sound when it is spun, but the groves are a bit painful for me if I spin it a lot. Maybe I have tender skin for a guy. Nevertheless, I like it so much until I bought a 2nd and a 3rd one, now contemplating whether should I get a 4th one.......... October 4, 2011

When using my D70 in "Commander AA" mode and my SB-700 as a slave/remote in Manual mode there seems to be an issue syncing when I dial the power on the SB-700 up past 1/8 +0.7ev. The D70 and SB-700 sync fine at 1/8 +0.7ev and lower power settings when the D70 is in Commander AA mode. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a compatibility issue?

Hi, my friend is facing a problem for her SB700, the SB700 flash light will on around 2 sec (the light not normal flash but is "ON") when she is on her flash and the D7000 together without press any button. Last time when she attended a wedding party and knew a photographer, the guy said is normal after he check the flash setting, he said " becz the flash setting is through the lens, so that when u on flash and D7000 together, the lens will autofocus, will influence the flash, so that the flash light will on around 2 sec, another reason is becz is using other brand lens. And finally he also said his Sb900 also same, not a problem. Izit true? Anyone here facing the same problem too?

Answer:
Reliable in terms of speed? Yes, reliably consistent. It is rated slightly faster than SB-600 that it replaces (faster for alkalines, for NiMH, it's same), although SB-600 is rated slightly more powerful (GN 29 vs. 31). It is also RATED to receycle at same rate 2.5 sec., whether using alkalines or NiMH. HOWEVER, in my personal experience, NiMH recycles noticeably faster. Only Sanyo Eneloop NiMH are worth using; all other NiMH AA are junk due to fast discharge in storage.

It's a been a while, so I am a little rusty on my photography lingo. This flash has a commander mode, now I assume that means it can be set to make another flash (set as a slave) flash at the same time, which is what I want. I am looking for a poor-man's lighting set up, that is consequently quite portable. (Camera + 2 speed-lights) I need to know if this flash is compatible with the D-80 and the SB-600. Also of interest to me is the cheapest Nikon flash that will do the trick. Does anyone know what this might be? Thanks!

I am considering the D5100 but wish to do macro photography sometimes. I realize that the R1 requires the SU800 to work on this camera, but I was wondering if there were other options for firing the R1 such as this flash. Then I could use it as flash sometimes as well as a commander other times. Do other flashes have this capability with this camera or does only the SU800 work?

Answer:
The SB-700 can be set to Wireless Commander Mode that controls up to 2 remote Speedlight groups and an unlimited number of compatible Speedlights. When used as a remote speedlight up to 3 Groups can be selected. Four wireless channel options help manage wireless conflicts in multi-photographer environments.

Nikon SB-700 Speedlight Review

by Rob Galbraith
December 2010

Rob Galbraith posted a review of the Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight. He said the SB-700 Speedlight is a great addition to Nikon's Speedlight line. Galbraith noted that the smaller SB-700 has many of the attributes of the larger, more powerful SB-900 but without its bulk. He also noted that the SB-700 is a quiet flash; with an intuitive control layout.

Nikon SB-700 Speedlight Review

by Jim Keenan
April 2011

Digital Camera Review's Jim Keenan posted a review of the SB-700 Speedlight. Keenan was impressed with the improved user interface and simpler to use functionality over the SB-700's predecessor. He added that the new interface is more intuitive to use. Keenan also said that anyone shooting a lot of wireless flash with the older model Speedlights will find the SB-700 "refreshingly quick to set up for remote or master flash duty."
