Still my all-time favorite camera
Growing up, I learned the principles of photography on my father's Nikon F and F2 cameras. In 1997, I bought an FM10 for myself, and it has been my faithful friend and companion on trips all around the world -- my latest was a 6-week trip to Australia and New Zealand in 2011. The FM10's quality is outstanding, as you can expect from all Nikon products. Rugged, simple, easy-to-use, lightweight, and quick-loading, it is a delight to carry and use. I highly recommend the FM10 to film enthusiasts and people wanting to understand the rudiments of photography. I am preparing to purchase my first DSLR, the D7000, but in my heart I know that it will be the FM10 accompanying me on trips as long as 35mm film is available.

The best camera I have ever owned!
All I wanted for my birthday in 6th grade was this camera, we were living in Germany at the time, and I got it! I am 24 years old now and use this camera to this day, which makes this camera roughly 12 years old; I have used it literally all over the world! I love this camera, it definitely will not let you down.
I uploaded a picture I took back in 6th grade, it's not the best in the world but hey I was in 6th grade!
I'd recommend this camera to anyone!

Timeless reliability
My FM-10 was my only birthday present for my 19th birthday over 10 years ago and I have thoroughly used, abused and loved every minute of it!
This is by far the lightest of the seven 35mm cameras that I own, and one I always find myself bringing as a back up, no matter what I shoot.
The film advance thumb lever is very smooth and in my opinion, faster retracting than some other SLRs of the same class.
This camera is dead on spot for any beginner. Why?
-Alloy body that can take a beating and is LIGHT! (I've used mine in -2 degree(F) for over 5 hours up in the north east winters without any issues at all)
- Easy to use.
- Built in 10 second timer AND ability to use a shutter release cord.
-Lens availability; As stated by other reviewers, you can use many older lenses (about 20-30 year old ones) as WELL as an M-42 screw mount adapter ring.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking to get into photography hands down.

Beginners' Choice
I recommend this camera for people taking up photography. It's inexpensive (comparatively) and makes for a good basic learning. It's rugged body makes for great wear and tear. I bought mine in 1997 and it's still in great condition today.
It's useful to learn about appertures, lighting, iso, etc manually before moving on to the digital camera. It helps to understand the whole concept of photography better. My friend bought the FE-10, and she and I both agreed that FM-10 is still the best of the two.
My favourite film to use on this camera are black-n-whites and slides.

No, as there is no way to control aperture, if you did, however, put it on it would vignette considerably.
What is the temperature range within which the FM10 will reliably function? I'm referring both to the movement of the mechanical parts (as some lubricants can thicken in cold weather#, and to battery power for the meters. I'd like to know both the official operating temperature range, and the actual one, as determined by practical experience from users.
On that note, should the batteries fail in cold weather #or for any other reason), are batteries required in order for the camera to have any functionality, or does it have the ability to release the shutter and cycle the mirror without electrical power?
If it does have a mechanical backup, is the shutter speed selectable, or is it locked at a specific speed, such as 1/60th of a second?

If the lenses are either DX or G type, then no. The FM10 requires FX format lenses with a mechanical aperture ring.
I'm looking for a long zoom lens for wildlife photography. The AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G looks great and economical but I'm not entirely sure it's compatible with the FM10 in terms of mount (FM10 has an F mount and the lens has an F bayonet mount) etc.

Can I use this lens, AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR on the FM10?
If, not what would be a good wide angle-zoom lens?

Answer:
No.Film cameras can only use FX format lenses and cannot work with a DX format lens. This is because the smaller DX format lens will not be able to cover the entire 35mm film frame and would cause vignetting to occur.
You can use any wide-angle zoom NIKKOR as long as it does not have DX in its model name.

I have a vivitar 2600 flash that has served me well over the years. Can I use it with my fm10
This Vivitar 2600 flash has served me well with my original minolta from the late 70s, my cannon from the late 80's and my last 35 mm Pentax K1000.
Will this work with my fm10? As it has worked with all those other cameras I see no reason why I would need to replace it.
Thanks
PS I like to take architectural photos which is not included below
