Unbelievable entry level camera I purchased this camera in June. I began with the D100, D200, and D300 which are all excellent camera bodies and I still use them all. I put the Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 on this camera to see how it would work and it is excellent, I tried the Nikkor 500 F4 and it is amazing what this camera is cabable of. You don't have all the options with the 3200 as with the D300S but with the 24 megapixel sensor in the 3200 your photos are breathtaking. I put the 70-200 back on the 3200 and it will stay mounted for wildlife photography this fall. Amazing camera for the budget consious. We photographed some elk in Wind Cave National Parks and this is one of the images with the 3200 and 70-200. Attached the GP-1 and this is an excellent tool for outdoor photography. This is a great set up (D3200 and GP-1) for under $1000. July 15, 2012
There Are Great Features In A Small Package I upgraded from a Nikon D80, I found the D3200 much lighter and user friendly. With the D80 you had to either have a good understanding of setting up your camera. I found the 3200 excellent for those who are "First Timers" or have little understanding of a DSLR buy using the "Guide". This camera is fast enough by far for action photography, but I found that with the D80 all I had to do was hold the trigger down for multiple pictures (Great at the 2011 Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona) where as the D3200 forces you to "trigger" every time you want a picture. Because all of my lenses work great with this camera unsuspectingly, I decided to go with buy a 500 zoom lens. The picture detail is outstanding at 24MP but I found some of those files were to large to put onto Kajijii. An 8MB file with the D80 turned into a 18MB file. That I can live with as I will just keep my D80 for such tasks. Like the RED color you decided to use for the body it's gotten a lot of attention from other camera enthusiasts, some of them were looking to buy one after hearing the specs and trying a few shots. Most people as myself included were VERY impressed by the price. Oh Yeah ..... Video, the option of taking either pictures or video is a great plus and the videos turned out to be quite high quality. I would like to add a stereo microphone but have been unable to find one on the market as of yet. The option of ISO at 3200 is a plus. Well thats about it. I think you mostly hit a Home Run with this little camera. Ha Ha tried to upload some photos but this site is limited to 5MB per pic all mine are over 8MB. Sorry....... July 6, 2012
Nice one for it's category I am using D3200 for more than one month now and for what i shoot i think is more than enough. I have been using 55-200m lens without vr and still receiving great images even at night if you give the shooter more time.I bought body only as i had a previous 18-55m lens which a sold for a few dollars and never used it. I am waiting a 18-105 vr lens which i think will be enough for everyday photography and ever get sharper images and better quality. With this one i have achieved to shoot macro and portrait as if i wrote that those where taken with a fx people would believe it. Worthy and practical would recommend it for everyday usage. July 4, 2012
Amazing Camera For its Value I love this camera i got it a few days ago and have taken over 1000 shots. I would recommend this camera to any beginner even professionals. June 25, 2012
Amazing Camera for any Photo enthusiast I bought this camera a month ago as a birthday present (to myself). Immediately i started taking photos of almost anything just to get the feel. In Auto mode, it is more reliable than any sony, canon, or even compact nikon's that i have used. Breaking my leg two weeks ago in a sailing accident, i have been playing around with the manual features and have started to take better and better photos in numerous environments. With the help of the "guide" feature, i am able to choose what type of photo i am trying to take and learn the settings that the camera automatically adapts to. I highly recommend this camera if you are either first trying out a DSLR, want to learn more about photography, or even have tried other cameras and just want something that works in any environment and takes a photo with a truly clear photo. Are NEFs lossy or losslessly compressed?

The specs note that the NEF format is 12-bit compressed, but don't provide any more detail. Based on past Nikons, I'm assuming "compressed" means a lossy quantisation down to less than 12-bit (e.g. ~9.4-bits with the D70). Is that the case, and are there any other compression factors to be considered?

Answer:
Flash Sync Speed Up to 1/200 sec.
AUTO (auto flash): When lighting is poor or subject is back lit, flash pops up automatically when shutter-release button is pressed halfway and fires as required.
Red-eye reduction: Use for portraits. Red-eye reduction lamp lights before flash fires, reducing “red-eye.”
Off: Flash does not fire even when lighting is poor or subject is back-lit.
SLOW (slow sync): Shutter speed slows automatically to capture background lighting at night or under low light. Use to include background lighting in portraits.
REAR (rear-curtain sync): Flash fires just before shutter closes, creating a stream of light behind
moving light sources (below at right). If this icon is not displayed, flash will fire as the shutter opens (front-curtain sync; the effect this produces with moving light sources is shown below at left).

A user reported on Amazon that the he tried using his new d3200 for video. Here's his response:

"After I bought my D3200, I took it directly to my daughter's graduation ceremony. I took some pictures and they seemed to be just fine. Then I started recording video at 1080p/30fps. After about 10 minutes, I stopped it and the LCD displays an error message indicating the SD card is damaged and not readable. After I returned home, I tried to read the card from my computer and found the card is completely not recognized.

I thought it might be caused by a defective SD card which I bought together with the camera from Amazon. I then bought a new SD card from a local store and tried video recording again. The exact same thing happened. The second SD card is also completely damaged by D3200."

It isn't known what brand/model was used. Is it possible for SD cards with insufficient transfer rates to be damaged using the video mode(s)? Is this a known issue or something to be aware of?

Answer:
I would think it was both the quality and write speed of the SD card.
Nikon reccomends a minimum class 6 card be used. In my experience a class 10 should be the minimum but preferably a UHS 1 card. Here is the list of approved memory cards (scroll to the bottom):http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d3200/spec.htm

The D3200 is sold as a kit. Some dealers put kits together with different lenses, sometimes one or two. You will need to verify with your local dealers to see what they have available.

I am planing to buy the D3200 but I heard that not all lenses work with that new system, I know there are 2 Nikkor lenses in the range of 24-85mm one of them is AF and the other is AF-S.. The AF-S doesn't have any reviews yet, please advice.

NB: I need this lens for architecture photography purpose from a very high point.

I jus got this camera a few weeks ago and love most of it. But one thing I can't figure out is sometimes itll just refuse to take a picture, no matter how long you hold down the button. Most of the time I am in auto, but it'll happen in other modes too. I also tried different lenses and it still happens. It also doesn't appear to matter what the conditions are, light wise.

For example I'll be taking a few pictures for a panorama In a sunny location and the third picture refuses to take. Or just sitting in my living room taking pictures in different settings you can hold down he button for 5 minutes nothing happens.

The thing that bothers most is I can't find a pattern of what causes it. Any thoughts???????

The D3200 is sold with the AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 18-55mm as a kit. Some dealers put kits together with different lenses, sometimes one or two. A memory card is not included in the accessories supplied by Nikon. Please contact your dealer because sometimes they offer bundles that include a memory card.
