Nikon D3100 I purchased the D3100 as a 'light weight' alternative the the D3 I normally use , as I planned for a 10-day backpacking trip to Philmont last July. The D3100 camera preformed flawlessly the entire trip. I had no issues with battery power management even though I purchased two additional batteries. Nor any issues with dust gathering on the sensor since the camera had a sensor cleaning function built into the camera. The simple UI controls for adjusting the flash, made the pop-up flash perfect for adding fill light for those difficult lighting situations. My only regret was that I didn't bring 2-D3100 cameras as it was frequently out of my hands being used by all the boys on the trek. JHM April 1, 2012
Finally got my 1st DSLR! my D3100 arrived this afternoon and I came home to get familiar with the settings and give a tryout. Let me tell you that my desires to ever go back to the days of my 35 film is long past now. Light weight, quick to snap and use as easy as my point and shoot Coolpix. If you have the desire to get into a digital SLR then I am going to highly recommend this for what ever you have a need for, the photos I will attach are my first with this, I'm very impressed and want to learn more. Thanks Nikon October 22, 2010
Awesome Camera.. Got this for Christmas 2011...love it...still learning what all it can do...have three grandchildren..so need I say more...would totally recommend this camera... July 15, 2012

Answer:
Either you are shooting under a low frame rate, like 24 fps. If you turn down the resolution from 1080p to 720, it will then be able to handle 30fps. Either this is the case, or you have a very slow SD card that needs upgraded.

Answer:
You generally would download the photos onto a computer as a Jpeg or raw file (if raw you will need to convert them for printing) and then print them (click on the photo to bring it up and then press print on windows.) or edit and print them. I would say that most printers can print photos now days, the cost of ink though is generally quite high.

Answer:
You can't adjust shutter speed in Aperture mode. As the name says only thing you are controlling is aperture and exposure compensation. If you like shooting sports and want to fully take control over settings than rotate the mode dial to "M" (Manual mode). After you done that, you can change your shutter speed via wheel on back of your camera. And to change aperture hold "exposure compensation" button on top of the camera and than use the wheel to change it. I hope this helped you!

I have a Sunpack Power Zoom 4000 that is designed for the Nikon cameras, but I can't seem to get the camera to detect it correctly. When not in manual mode the internal flash will pop-up. When in manual mode the camera tells me to use a flash.

Suggestions? What I find funny is when I set the flash to AutoZoom mode, the display on the camera turns on, but something still isn't right.. Thanks. Great camera.

I bought the D3100 back in April, and for Christmas, this year, I got the 70-300mm Nikkor VR lens. I noticed the difference between the VR and non-VR lenses is over $400. Someone told me that if I have VR on camera and on the lens too, that they cancel each other out, or that, it's a waste of money to have it on both. if that's the case, I'm going to exchange for non-VR, but I want to make sure before I take it back. Any insightful feedback would be appreciated.

VR is on the lens only not in the camera so that 'someone' was completely wrong. The only time vr is of no use is if the lens were to be mounted on a tripod.

When I attempt to change certain settings in the shooting menu (eg Picture Control, White balance, ISO sensitivity) on my d3100 it wont let me and says 'This option is not available with current settings'.
Are there other settings I need to change first to allow this? Or is there a problem with the camera?

While the short end of the standard 18-55mm is a moderate wide-angle, you will probably find that something along the order of the 12-24mm will be much better when photographing smaller rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, etc.

I believe live view would be more useful if exposure would be made adjustable in live view by displaying the meter & showing the exposure on the screen. Under exposed & the screen is dark, over exposed & the screen is light following the exposure adjustment.

First you would have to detemine if the voltage was correct and if the flash did fire all settings would be manual. You can get a Nikon SB400 for about $120 which would be a good flash for you D3100.

Hello!
I'm such a newbie to the DSLR world that I assumed i would only get a body for D3100 so I also ordered 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor Lens (I'll be mostly shooting my baby and these are 'listed' as portrait lenses). Well, the camera came with quite decent 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR VR Image Stabilization Lens. They are both in a same price range so is the difference really significant? I'm not sure if I should keep the 55-200 ones for portrait shooting or return/exchange for something else like wide-angle lens.

Answer:
The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II lens approximates the picture angle performance of a 27-82.5mm, so you will have more wide angle than the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED that will give you more zoom range and is ideal for portraiture, family, sports, nature and wildlife.
