Nikon D3100 I purchased the D3100 as a 'light weight' alternative the the D3 I normally use , as I planned for a 10-day backpacking trip to Philmont last July. The D3100 camera preformed flawlessly the entire trip. I had no issues with battery power management even though I purchased two additional batteries. Nor any issues with dust gathering on the sensor since the camera had a sensor cleaning function built into the camera. The simple UI controls for adjusting the flash, made the pop-up flash perfect for adding fill light for those difficult lighting situations. My only regret was that I didn't bring 2-D3100 cameras as it was frequently out of my hands being used by all the boys on the trek. JHM April 1, 2012
Finally got my 1st DSLR! my D3100 arrived this afternoon and I came home to get familiar with the settings and give a tryout. Let me tell you that my desires to ever go back to the days of my 35 film is long past now. Light weight, quick to snap and use as easy as my point and shoot Coolpix. If you have the desire to get into a digital SLR then I am going to highly recommend this for what ever you have a need for, the photos I will attach are my first with this, I'm very impressed and want to learn more. Thanks Nikon October 22, 2010

When I review a picture on the LCD screen after taking it, it used to be just the picture full-screen. Now it plays back one-quarter screen and all the picture data and histogram take up the rest of the space. How do I get it back to full screen?

I would like to be able to select either aperature priority or shutter priority and do my own focusing rather than relying on auto focus. I would also like to use my Nikkor AI lenses which I understand will not be automatic. I am quite happy focusing myself and selecting and adjusting f-stops and shutter speed.

Answer:
One feature you will find missing on the entry level DSLR's is the depth of field preview. This is not available until the D7000. If you don't do much close-up work you may not miss this, but I often find myself wishing to see the result of the different aperture selections . TBF

I understand that the D3100 does not have a 3.5 mic input but is there something I'm missing? Is the ME-1 somehow able to now connect to the D3100 now that we are in mid 2012? If this is false information Please fix as my family bought one not knowing there was not a mic input.

http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25472/D3100.html?cid=d3100fom#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-System

P. S.
Please make an adapter to allow mic input.

Thanks

I'm new into photography and recently purchased the Nikon D3100. I've started playing around and my photos have a distinct clear background, however the image I'm focusing on (profile) is coming out blurry. I want to take pictures the exact opposite. My main focus to be clear. Any suggestions for what to have my settings on? I'm also looking for any online tutorials on how to work this beautiful camera.
Thank you!
