To my knowledge , this is pretty good details n durability, lesser models do not have sealing and shutter life as does the D7000,
I own older D2X, Niko flagship model...I do not abuse my equipment at all, but it has never let me down, through rain, dust heat, cold , you name it...

I just got a D-7000 and also purchased a Nikon 85MM F/1.8 D-AF lens, but it does not work. Is that lens incompatible with the D-7000?
Answers
Look at the bajonet on the body, left under near the DOF button.
There you see the screwdriver pin for AF function.
In your case I would check if the AF switch on the body is in the right position.
