Solid body, excellent images. Did not have any of the negative experiences that I saw on the many forums. The only complaint that seemed to have any merit was about the mirror slap induced shake at certain shutter speeds. That was easily worked around. Properly set up, the auto focus proved to be much better than I was led to believe. I shot birds and bugs at high speed and had very good luck. I photographed a football game and a basketball game and had almost no misses. The extra resolution, compared to my D 90 & D 80 helps when I have to crop. My favorite set up for wildlife is my D 7000 and the 300 f4 Nikkor with the 1.4 tc. Paired with my 12-24 wide angle, it does a great job with landscape photos as well. I have not tried video. July 16, 2012
It takes great pictures in a variety of conditions. I was a long time Canon/Olympus owner and switched to the Nikon D7000 because of the features and thinking I would get more better pictures on the first try under less than ideal conditions. I was not disappointed. I've had the camera and multiple lenses over a year now and still love the camera. I do mostly outdoor nature photography, but have been very impressed with the low light indoor capabilities and close up garden photos. I've even upgraded my daughters to D5100 cameras and have been impressed with those. July 16, 2012
Amazing! After doing all the research, I have decide to get the D7000 for one particular reason--nothing's much better. The D7000 outshines every competition there is. I especially love it's amazing performance in low-light situation. And, of course, Nikon D7000 simply looks "beautiful", physically. It's a head turner. Whenever I use this camera, people just stares. It's a bonus for me. July 16, 2012
Great! Just got the D7000 last week, what a vast improvement over the D200. Images are much more detailed, viewfinder is much better. July 15, 2012
all round performer this is a serious camera that Nikon has produced amateur friendly yet features pro's will love i give it a 9.2/10 July 14, 2012

Answer:
Really? You're returning the entire camera because of a small mistake? Yes. The bodies are supposed to come with caps. Why not just contact Nikon. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you a body cap free of charge. When my camera came from a Nikon dealer, it was missing the plug for the charger. One phone call, and a few days later the plug came in the mail. You could also visit your local camera store. Camera stores often have body caps floating around they'll just give you.

Answer:
It does come with a body cap! Cannot imagine how you got it without that attached. I would return it too and get an exchange - don't know what might have gotten inside if the cap was not on it. Read the manual / papers that came with it to be sure all items are in the box that are supposed to be. I was stumped on a couple items, only to find they were already attached to the camera and not 'loose' in the box. I LOVE my D7000 and have been using it just over a month now. I highly recommend sticking with it if you wanted a high quality Nikon! Good luck. :)

Answer:
1) What is CoC?
2) A 50mm lens on a DX sensor provides the same angle of view of a 75mm lens on FX. The depth of field is proportional to the angle of view, therefore, the DoF is shallower in DX.

Answer:
The price does not include the lens. When viewing prices for this or any other camera, check out "Included Accessories". If the lens is included, it will be listed there. Nikon vendors MIGHT include a lens as part of a kit, but they will always make it clear what is included.

Answer:
As answered before, no Nikon remote will start/stop video, but remote camera control softwares (like Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2), can. You'll need a computer running Apple OS or Windows (if using Windows, a tablet will also work; note that Apple iPad tablets are NOT compatible); a USB connection or a wireless connection with an optional Nikon WT-4A Wireless Transmitter attached to the D7000. Not only can you start/stop, but you'll actually have full control and viewing (both real time and recorded) capabilities.

I own a D7000 and am looking at purchasing new SanDisk cards. Can you tell me what the maximum data transfer rate is that the D7000 can perform when writing to a SD card. Reason for my question is with the newer SDHC 30mbs and SDHC UHC-1 45 mbs cards on the market I want to purchase what will work with the D7000 without over purchasing unnecessarily. I mainly shoot still photography but am starting to shoot video.

Thanks,

Also what is the picture taking speed without ever having the buffer kick in? If I take one picture a second or one picture every two seconds continuosly will the buffer still kick in eventually or still after 100 pics? Basically will the buffer kick in only in high or low continuos mode?

Answer:
It all depends on the image quality settings you have chosen. If you are shooting RAW it has to write a very large file to your CF card. If you are shooting at the smallest basic JPG possible, you will be able to shoot many more pictures before the buffer kicks in. However, even when I tested using the smallest JPG in Continuous High mode, the buffer eventually kicked in. If you are using a small JPG file and taking a picture every second or so, then I doubt the buffer will ever kick in. Hope that helps!

Answer:
The buffer is always active. Shoot any frame, any image size, and it is buffered, you just may not see it if it is small enough to write quickly to memory.
You can watch the buffer on the top LCD as you shoot.
In order to shoot 99 frames continuous you will need to be set to a file size small enough to allow that option. I believe it is JPEG Basic, Image Size- Small.

I'm using a Marshall V-LCD50-HDMI 5" Camera-Top / Portable Field Monitor to view my live video coming out of the D7000. The monitor can impose the 2.35 aspect ratio lines on the monitor, which is fine when you play back the video full screen, but in the live mode, the active viewing area is reduced allowing space for data indicators. Can these be turned off so I can see the live video full screen?

If I shoot in RAW (the 16 MB format), then using a 16 GB card, rough math indicates this should be around 1000 pictures. But even after reformatting this card, the D7000 shows it only has room for about 425 pictures. Why?

Answer:
I also shoot RAW and while my camera also shows the same 400+ in the info, in actuality it saves over 900 photos before it switches to the second card. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I think it has this same type of discrepancy with the 8GB card. Since I am getting what I wanted--900+ photos per card--I haven't worried about the discrepancy. If I were a professional photographer working events, it would be much more important to know exactly how many more photos I could take before switching.

With a 16gb you should be getting a few more than that, though not the 1000 that you think you should get. It depends on a lot of variables, camera settings being just one of them. If you refer to page 320 of your manual it will give you a rough estimate of the amount of images that can be stored for any given quality setting.

Answer:
In order to do this you will need Camera Control Pro 2 by using a USB or Firewire cable and/or optional WiFi adapters for select models, Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 enables you to capture images or videos from the D7000.

Answer:
Short nanswer: yes. I have been using the 16gig card from Sam's Club (28 bucks) and it works fine. In fact I can put high quality images on it and use it as a file system backup. I shoot the card full then put a new one in.

Answer:
(also, d5100 has a swivel LCD display which can help a lot when shooting video from nonconventional angles. but if you're serious about filmmaking, you'll buy a field HDMI monitor anyway, so that's not a dealbreaker issue.)

Answer:
as far as sealing goes, d7000 is moderately sealed, but since d5100 is a lower-grade product, i highly doubt it. apart from that, d5100 loses the built-in autofocus motor (so only af-s and similar lenses can autofocus), the higher stills fps, the double sd card, the autofocus fine-tuning, the ability to meter with older (ai-s & co, non-cpu) manual lenses. BUT, with d5100 you get proper framerates for 1080p video (25 and 30fps).

Hello,
I have been a proud owner of the D7000 since the fall and I love it. However, I was a little disappointed that the lower end D5100, which has the same image sensor and processor(stated here http://www.nikon.com/news/2011/0405_d5100_01.htm), was released and supports the PAL and NTSC broadcast standards, while the D7000 currently does not. Since it has the same processor and image sensor, It should be capable of these rates. Will Nikon be updating the D7000 firmware to include these framerates?

Thanks

Answer:
It was my understanding that the NTSC BROADCAST Standard was aprox. 30 fps(29.97) , and that the PAL BROADCAST standard was aprox. 25 fps. These are both included in the lower end D5100 which has the same processor and sensor as the D7000. I believe the "[NTSC]" from the specs you pasted only signifies the mode where the proceeding rates are accessible. Will the NTSC and PAL BROADCAST Standard rates (approx. 30fps, 25 fps) also be made accessible on the D7000.
Thanks a bunch!

Answer:
I think you have to set it each time you use it, and you have to expose, partially release shutter to focus-mode but not all the way, then re-expose. Only played with it a little but I think it's finicky like that.

When shooting with live view and in Manual (M) mode, the D7000 is unable to change aperture value. This is not a problem when shooting in Aperture-priority (A) mode, where turning the command dial I can see the screen get darker or lighter as the F-stop changes. Are there plans for a future firmware update to allow changing aperture while in Manual mode? As of right now, in order to change aperture while in full Manual, I have to flip the switch to turn off Live View, use the command dial, then turn back on Live View.

YES! I have this lens and use it on my D7000. The D7000 has the AF focus screw for non-AFS lenses. Sharp, inexpensive and great for low light. Everyone should own one even if just for a backup lens.
