Excellent
I have compared like cameras for the last two months trying to determine which product to purchase. Having used cameras of friends, I finally decided on the Nikon P-510. The picture quality and performance is unbelievable. I do not regret my purchase and would do this all over again as I believe I have purchased the finest camera in it's class!

Great Camera with so many extras
I have owned so many cameras but this is the best camera. It has everything that a person could want. There are some individuals that don't like the video portion but they just have to learn to use it right..
This camera as special effects when taking pictures that I have enjoyed and used many o them. I look forward to continuing to learn to use more of this camera's options and effects.

Excellent portability! See's Saturn!
I use this camera for reasons that should be done with a DSLR. The zoom helps me get the best picts from a safe distance in a war zone. I use manual settings for most of my shots. I included a picture of Saturn from a dark sky location. I used 1/80 shutter, 7.8 fstop and 1600 ISO on a Manfrotto tripod with a 10 second delay. For a point and shoot to reach out this far, is the reason why I do not have a DSLR and spare zooms. We had a mortor explode close by and the camera fell while attached to the tripod. The tripod 1/4" mount broke off the bottom plastic of the P510, so I epoxied the lower half of the camera back on. I would like to see a few changes in firmware. Allow full 8 sec shutter at any ISO. Add a RAW NEF or JPG choice. Allow digital zoom in Manual mode. Add a bulb function. Allow the screen to dim much more for night astrophotography. Add a finer focus control as the current one moves too course. Finally, make it in Gloss Yellow.

Moral of the story - Stick with Nikon
I've been a Nikon user for the past 25 years and have purchased several Nikon cameras, film and now digital. I recently read the specs of the Canon G1-X and bought it-and then took it back three days later and bought the P510.
I was looking for a smaller, but quality-speced camera to use when my Nikon Digital SLR with accessories was too bulky. The most important spec for me was an electronic viewfinder which the P510 has. Everything else is icing on the cake and their's lot of icing - 42x optical zoom, built in GPS, PSA and M modes, 16.1 MP sensor but having an electronic view finder was the big one! Photos are great-a perfect camera for what I was looking for and it's easy to use.

Answer:
Those are not threads. They are there just to hold the lens cap. There are some adapters out there however they are either bulky or junk. I myself am waiting for something decent. It seems as though I am not alone on this, just google p510 filter adapter. Hey Nikon how about stepping up with an adapter?May 15, 2012 by

They are not threads, no filters for this camera.
Of course I understand that printers are different, but a little detail on the basic PDF print settings required would be extremely helpful! My goal is to print out the pages in correct order to make a booklet that is printed on standard 8-1/2 x 11 paper, landscape, and would be 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 after folding the sheets in half, or cutting and comb binding them.
Alternatively, could you offer a printed manual at additional cost for those of us who would see the value in that and pay for it?
Thank you!

Those are the settings for double sided printing, that's what the booklet subset is for- select both sides and printer will do the rest. If your printer doesn't due double side, pause printing and flip over paper.Answer:
Thanks Joe!One thing not clear: this doesn't print on both sides of the paper, right? So, would I need to print just "front side only" and then turn over and run through again for the back side? Probably reverse order?

Can the GPS option be turned off? Will this save battery life? 240 images is about half the battery life of some other bridge cameras.

By default the GPS isn't (or at least wasn't) on...you can turn it off though I'm not sure how much that will help you. I rarely have the GPS on (which does hog the proprietary battery's resources) and don't do much better than your image count with limited use (10-15% of shots) of the flash. Also, the battery indicator doesn't seem to be especially accurate. It goes from full to half and then empty in a very short time frame, with little indicated in between. It's a shame that Nikon couldn't do better with the battery considering where the technology is these days, or at least allow the option for AA battery format so I could actually afford to keep some extra charged batteries in my bag. Not making things any easier is the lack of an external charger that they could have included for a couple of $ more in cost.Jul 11, 2012 by

Answer:
usually can be switched off. (you didnt specify what camera you were talking about though..)Answer:
The GPS option can be turn Off (default setting is Off). If Record GPS data is set to On while a log is recorded using Create Log, GPS functions even when the camera is turned off and that will take power of your battery.

When will a camera in this series have filter threads? I absolutely cannot buy a camera without - I have a 3 year old!
Many many years ago I loved my coolpix 800 (with filters and additional lens), The coolpix 4300 was not a bad camera either, but the following coolpixes couldn't compare to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 (which takes filters) I had next... I was hoping this was the camera would be my replacement and my return to Nikon, but it seems not.

I would also love to use a polarizing filter. That's one thing that is simply not effective to add post-production. I was all set to purchase this camera until learning filters cannot be used. I will gladly wait til the next version. Seems there are MANY people who want filters judging by the number of times that question has been posted here.So Nikon - How aboout it?

Answer:
Panasonic FZ seies are but a few P&S cameras left on the market that puts a thread to put filters on their lenses and most are high end stuff. One of the main reasons for doing so is most of the filter effects can be added post edit and also the design reasons. Most P&S in 9xxx, 8xxx, 6xxx, 4xxx, 3xxx series are such that the lens retracts completely, flush with the body. You can't do that when you havea filter hanging off the lens. I suspect they will never putthis feature into any of their P&S cameras. Even mgazoom like P500 and L120, which are similar to Panasonic FZ series do not have them. But lacking a filter thread should not be a deal-breaker for whether you choose to buy Nikon or not.
