Share amazing photos in an instant

Built-in Wi-Fi® for easily sharing your shots anytime, anywhere

The COOLPIX S5200 makes it easier than ever to share beautiful views of your world. Take a great shot and instantly send it to your compatible smartphone, tablet, or any compatible Wi-Fi® device. Then use your smart device to email it, text it, or upload it to your favorite social networking or photo album sites—shared the same way you normally share images online. Your friends and family will be amazed by the shots you share!

Superior low-light performance

High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash

Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—most places your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos and HD videos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX S5200 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.

Record superior videos

1080p Full HD videos with stereo sound for dazzling movies

If you want a compact camera that shoots stunning Full HD videos, the COOLPIX S5200 delivers. 1080p Full HD means the ultimate in video quality. Record the action, then connect to an HDTV and watch your videos come alive. A built-in mic records high-quality audio in stereo. Your videos will look and sound phenomenal.

Frame the perfect shot

6x wide-angle NIKKOR glass zoom lens gets you closer to the action

Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have made Nikon famous. The COOLPIX S5200 6x zoom NIKKOR lens is great for everything from wide-angle group shots to close-up portraits. Plus, lens-shift Vibration Reduction helps make your photos steady, even if your hands are not.

Dazzle with every shot

Create truly exceptional photos and HD videos in nearly any light. A 16-megapixel CMOS low-light image sensor delivers superior image quality, versatility and low-light performance.

Good camera. Easy to learn. Camera easy to figure except the Wi-Fi. Still have yet to learn how it works. I do not like CD instructions but, rather, a booklet. January 13, 2014
Great value! I think this camera is a great value for the price. It takes great pictures and video, I am happy with this product. January 5, 2014
Purple and powerful! I have owned many compact digital cameras (including a Sony, several Casios and a previous Nikon Coolpix), and use them for a combination of still and motion photography that I use professionally for my full-time job and for my part-time passion. I want lots of capabilities, high definition, compact size, long battery life, advanced features -- heck, I want it all. Well, the Nikon Coolpix S5200 is delivering a lot of value for a compact price. A new feature I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy before is the WiFi feature that allows me to upload pictures form the Nikon to my smartphone (or any tablet that has the Wireless Mobility app installed). I am loving this! I upload lots of images from my smartphone to the net from my smartphone, and I have hated having to wait until I get to a computer to get my camera images online. Now, I don't have to wait. I can take those higher quality images with my Nikon (my smartphone is not shabby, photo quality-wise, but the Nikon is outshines by far -- and it should) and share them through the web, through email, thru text messages, just like I do with all other images on my smartphone. This is especially awesome if the image is newsworthy -- you snooze, you lose if you don't get those images out there quickly. I shoot a lot of digital movies, and the image format for the Nikon is MOV. I have always preferred AVI for my digital movie format, but MOV is very fine quality, too. The camera comes with onboard memory of 2MB, but you can add high density memory cards -- I have a 16GB installed, and that size will hold over 3,000 of the highest quality still images, not too shabby! I can hold a lot of digital movies on this card, too. It's nice to have great capacity to store images from all of a day's shooting rather than having to swap out memory cards multiple times during the day. I am very pleased with this camera! November 17, 2013
Great Features in such a small item Just so easy to handle and the pictures are so clear can't wait to try all the features. and the price was right. October 4, 2013
Great little camera that works like a larger one! I love this one! I'm so glad that I bought this one. It works better than advertised. It is so small, I can sneak up for pictures of my grandkids and my dog before they know it. :) July 2, 2013

Answer:
Please make sure the S5200 battery is fully charge and the USB cable not plugged into the camera.
If an Eye-Fi SD card is in the S5200 you will not be able to turn ON the Wi-Fi Network. We have tested a few brands of SD cards and some of them will not allow you to turn ON the S5200 Wi-Fi Network even if the battery is fully charge and the USB cable is not plugged in the camera. We recommend an approved SD card. NIKON tested and approved SD cards for the S5200 are listed on Page 22 of the S5200 user manual. If the Issue persists, please contact Nikon Technical Support for assistance.

Answer:
The Wi-Fi options in the S5200 menu will be grayed out if there is no memory card inserted in the camera, if the battery is not fully charged, or if an Eye-Fi card is inserted in the camera. With an approved memory card and a fully charged battery inserted you should be able to access the S5200's Wi-Fi options and turn the on the Wi-Fi.

Detailed instructions on using the Wi-Fi feature of the COOLPIX S5200 start on page 107 if the S5200 manual. A list of approved memory cards for the S5200 can be found on page 22 of the Technical Notes and Index section of the S5200 manual.

I have removed the battery and memory card and held down the on/off button for a minute and put both back in with no luck. I purchased the camera yesterday and turned it on (prior to charging) and set the date/time. I then charged it overnight and tried to turn it on in the morning and it didn't work. I bought the camera as a replacement for a trip (my first Nikon after 3 Olympus cameras) and now am on a trip without a camera.

In playback mode the camera displays both the musical note symbol to indicate there is an attached voice memo, and it displays the OK:Quick Effects symbol. Apparently Quick Effects takes precedence over playing the voice memo when the OK button is pressed.

According to the manual, turning off Quick Effects in the Menu turns it off only during shooting:
"Off - Disables the quick effects function (during shooting)"
I have turned off quick effects in the menu but the quick effects indicator still shows when in playback mode.

Perhaps the only solution is to download the .wav file to a pc and play it there. Not very useful when away from the house.

I really love my Coolpix s5200 but the only thing that bugs me is the movie mode. I'm not a professional or someone with lots of knowledge about cameras, just a person who like to take pictures of what interests me and to keep memories.

If the sounds are too loud when I'm filming it, the movie will produce loud static noise or booming noise. I have a video below of what I'm talking about if my description isn't so clear. Is there anyway I can change the settings? If not, is there a programs (free if possible) where I can edit the movie and take out the static noise in the movie and have regular sound coming out?

Thanks for helping! I really appreciate it.
