Frame the perfect shot

12x wide-angle NIKKOR glass zoom lens gets you closer to the action

Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have made Nikon famous. The COOLPIX S6500 12x zoom NIKKOR lens is great for everything from wide-angle group shots to close-up portraits. Plus, lens-shift Vibration Reduction helps keep every shot steady, even if your hands are not.

Superior low-light performance

High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash

Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos and HD videos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX S6500 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.

Freeze action in its tracks

Hold down the shutter button and fire up to 7 continuous shots per second

Create amazing action sequences with the touch of a button. When the action speeds up, just hold down the shutter button and fire off up to 7 continuous shots per second. You'll get views of fast-moving subjects you may never have seen.

great camera in a small package easy to use, wonderful pics, clear instructions, light weight April 14, 2014
Easy to Set Up and start using great picture quality and so easy to download pictures to my computer April 13, 2014
MIS USE OF WIFI TECHNOLOGY WIFI DOES NOT WORK. will not work.WIFI is meant to work with any device with wifi period. should be advertised as smart phone ready NOT WIFI. other wise camera is simple to use and takes decent pictures. very unhappy with the wifi function. have spoken with tech support and they seemed to agree that this is a mis use of the wifi terminology. works for what we need and transfer via cable is fine. March 25, 2014
Battery life too short, great pics! the battery life is too short.I charged it all night and then took a 3 min video plus some other pics and the battery still died that same day. the camera shows more battery life but then just shuts down. I got clear pictures of birds in mid flight while on a boat! I was very impressed with that. The camera has a great zoom too. I wish there was a way to charge a battery while using one so I didn't lose out on the second half of the day of pictures from my trip. March 18, 2014
Steer clear of this!!! I purchased this camera last spring before a family vacation. Used it a couple days prior to make sure it was ok. Went on vacation & the 4th day in the middle of taking pics the screen went black. The lens would open but the screen stayed black. I did everything the troubleshooting said to do to no avail. Called the company & they had me return it, which I did. I received it back, charged it & the lens totally wouldn't open at all! Called again, to which I was basically told I was stupid as they wouldn't return an item if it didn't work. Sent it back again & received it back in the same condition I sent it. Called again & was told to resend it again (for the THIRD time) which I did, Then I receive an email that it would cost $116 to repair!!! Called letting them know I shouldn't have to pay anything since it only worked a week & was told they would give me a "complimentary repair" Well I have now gotten it back again & when I turn it on the lens does not open & the screen is white!!!! The company has had 3 attempts to repair their product & haven't managed to do so, obviously this is a total LEMON!!! This has been the WORST experience EVER!!! The company has been horrible in their service as well...DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA if you intend to use it!!!!!! March 9, 2014

Answer:
The Wi-Fi option in the S6500 menu will be greyed out if there is no memory card inserted in the camera or if an Eye-Fi card is inserted in the camera. Also, since Wi-Fi will add to the camera's power usage, be sure to have a fully charged battery in the camera when using this feature. With an approved memory card and a fully charged battery inserted you should be able to access the S6500's Wi-Fi settings and turn the on the Wi-Fi.

Detailed instructions on using the Wi-Fi feature of the COOLPIX S6500 start on page 107 if the S6500 manual. A copy of the S6500 manual can be downloaded from here:https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

Answer:
The S6500 internal memory is approximately 25mb . If you intend to take many pictures and later transfer them to your computer, a memory card is recommended. The WI-FI feature of the camera which allows you to control the Shutter with a smart device or transfer pictures wirelessly to a smart device requires a memory card. A memory card of class 6 or higher is recommened for video recording.

The lens cannot be retracted during playback. However turning the camera on with the PLAYBACK BUTTON instead of using the POWER BUTTON will cause the camera to turn ON in PLAYBACK MODE without the lens extracting from the camera body.

Was transferring photos to a smart device, when my wife accidently push a button (Maybe the menu button) on the camera. she checked the smart device and the photos did not transfer. she tried to turn the Wi Fi back on, on the camera, but she can't, it asks her to reset the Wi Fi defaults, after she said yes, it won't let her turn on the Wi Fi it just keep going back to "Reset the Wi Fi defaults", removed the battery and retried same results. The rest of the camera works fine.

With a Booklet printing software you can create your own manual and fold it up, You can cut those 200 pages down to about 50. Nikon store paper manual are in the link below but I do not see your camera or any new camera listed.

Unfortunately I don't think you will have much success with the S6500.There is no way to hold the shutter open long enough. In fireworks show mode the shutter only remains open 4 seconds If you want to try it, first the camera must be on a tripod, set the mode to fireworks and use the self timer to release the shutter.

When the battery was exhausted I plugged the provided charger into the camera and the LED light blicked slowly for a while then stopped approx 4 hours. When I tried to turn the camera on to use it will not turn on. I thought maybe the battery did not charge and returned the camera to the charger which now blicks for approx 20 seconds and stops, however the camera will still not turn on. Any thoughts?

The S6500 has a Wind Noise Reduction option allows you to reduce wind noise during movie recording. To turn on Wind Noise Reduction hit the menu button while in shooting mode. Choose the movie menu option, then Wind Noise Reduction, then hit OK.

Answer:
The S6500 cannot connect to the internet if that is what you are asking. The Wi-Fi feature of the camera allows smart devices such as iPhone/Ipad and adroid Phone/Tablets to connect to the camera and control the shutter or transfer pictures to the smart device wirelessly.

The Wireless Mobile Utility application must be installed on a compatible smart device before it can be used with a Nikon COOLPIX camera having built-in Wi-Fi. The application can be downloaded free of charge on Google Play™ on your Android device running Android 2.3 or later (smartphone) or Android 3.0 or later (tablet). For the iOS mobile platform, the application can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes® online store for use with iOS version 6.0 or later.

Answer:
The COOLPIX S6500 does not have the ability to change the aperture manually. Macro mode will usually give you a depth of field effect but this mode may not work for all the situations in which you might want to achieve depth of field with the COOLPIX S6500. To decrease your depth of field experiement with zooming your camera to its longest focal length (without using digital zoom) and getting closer to your subject.
