A camera you can count on

Photo of two women walking along the ocean's edge
The shots we want don't always happen right in front of us; they're often out on the sports field, up on the stage, across the room or just too far away for many smartphone cameras—but not too far away for the stylish COOLPIX S3600. Its NIKKOR glass zoom lens makes it easy to catch those shots. Zoom in with the power of 8x optical zoom and 16x Dynamic Fine Zoom for detailed close-ups from the sidelines. Add convenient features like Scene Modes for difficult shooting situations, Smart Portrait System for flattering no-fuss portraits, Target Finding Autofocus for keeping focus where you want it, fun Image Effects and so much more, and you've got a camera you can count on in nearly any situation.

The COOLPIX S3600’s 8x optical zoom lens goes from wide-angle—great for portraits and landscapes—all the way up to telephoto—great for closeups of sports, concerts, nature and more. When you need even more reach, zoom up to 8x with optical zoom and 16x with Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom function that effectively doubles your reach.

Target Finding AF for accurate, intelligent autofocus

It's frustrating when a smartphone camera focuses on the wrong thing. With COOLPIX S3600, Target Finding AF instantly and accurately determines your intended subject and focuses on it—not on just whatever is closest to the camera. Catch the shot you want on the first try. No more out of focus shots or the frustration of trying to get the camera to focus on the right thing.

Hope this one will be better I bought the model before this one and had some connectivity issues at first, but then it stopped. Thought it was my computer USB port. I used it only 7 mos and it quit connecting or charging alltogether. I bought it at Target and they couldn't scan it in their system since it was over 6 mos old and I had lost my receipt, so I couldn't send it back to Nikon. I searched again for cameras and thought I would try it again because it is a cheap camera that takes very good pics and videos along with easy to use. But...this time I bought the Target service plan real cheap and will keep all those papers in the box! It's not top of the line of course, but for someone that takes a lot of digital pictures and rarely prints them, it's OK. June 26, 2014
Defected shutter Shutter on my Coolpix fell out contacted Nikon the had me send it in for repair. I sent it to where they told me. I then checked the status and was told the shutter was not under warranty. now mind you I have used this camera only 5 times. had stored it in the protective sleeve and in the original box. And at no time was it dropped or banged into nothing. So it was a manufacturing problem. And I was told I would have to pay for the repair. I would not buy a Nikon product. October 10, 2014
fewer accessories supplied (no battery) Unlike the S3500, this camera does NOT have the EN-EL19 Rechargeable Battery included. You have to pay extra for more and more parts. March 25, 2014
November 28, 2014

Answer:
The COOLPIX S3500 sports a slim, compact design, making it the perfect companion for the user that seeks a versatile, convenient and affordable camera without sacrificing excellent performance. This point-and-shoot is equipped with a 20.1-megapixel sensor to ensure precise and detailed images, whether shooting outdoor landscapes or family portraits. A wide-angle 7x optical zoom NIKKOR lens helps users get close to the action with a focal length longer than any other camera within the budget friendly COOLPIX category. Lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) helps reduce blur and camera shake while rendering clear and sharp images in a variety of everyday shooting scenarios.

The new COOLPIX S3600 answers the call in a compact body (approximately 0.8-inches/19.9mm thick) that is easy to place in a pocket. An 8X optical zoom and 16X Dynamic Fine Zoom* gives users the versatility to shoot portraits and landscapes, while features like the 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor, 18 scene modes, Smart Portrait System and Target Finding AF help them capture these shots in sharp detail. Users can also record unforgettable moments in 720p HD video with Hybrid VR.

The manual can be downloaded here: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

For information on Continuous Shooting please see page 33 in the reference section of the User's Manual and for Flash Mode settings please see page 46 in the User's Manual.

Answer:
The COOLPIX S3600 is not a waterproof camera. For waterproof COOLPIX cameras check out:

-COOLPIX S31: Waterproof up to a depth of 5 m (16.4 ft.) and for 60 minutes
-COOLPIX S32: Waterproof up to a depth of 10 m (33 ft.) and for 60 minutes
-COOLPIX AW110: Waterproof up to a depth of 18 m (59 ft.) and for 60 minutes
-COOLPIX AW120: Waterproof up to a depth of 18 m (59 ft.) and for 60 minutes

For more info on these cameras go to: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Pr....

Also consider the Nikon1 AW1, which combines waterproof and shockproof construction with advanced Nikon1 technology: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Pr... .

I bought this camera for the internal memory, however on internal you can only take a 6 second video. Please say that if I buy an addition sd card I can take more than a 6 second clip.
The manual is useless as well as support.

Answer:
The internal memory for the COOLPIX S3600 is Approx. 25MB which will only allow very few seconds of video to be recorded. To record a movie, use a memory card (Class 6 or higher is recommended). The maximum movie recording time (maximum movie length for a single movie) is 4GB or 29 minutes, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card. The maximum movie length for a single movie is displayed on the monitor during movie recording.

Answer:
The Auto Scene Mode is a mode in which the camera automatically selects the optimum combination of shutter speed and aperture. This mode can be found in the Scene Mode Menu of the COOLPIX S3600. To optimize the camera, there are several scene modes that adjust to any shooting condition. Please see page 51 and 52 of the User's Manual for the list of scene modes.: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...
