Take it everywhere

The smallest COOLPIX camera ever

Imagine an easy to use camera that takes brilliant photos and HD movies and fits your pocket as well as it fits your lifestyle. You'll grab the COOLPIX S01 every time you go out, and you'll create more memories than ever before. Just slip it in your pocket or purse and hit the road. When the moment strikes, pull it out, catch the action and then show it off, (along with the beautiful photos or videos you just shot).

Create gorgeous memories

10.1 MP, 3x optical zoom, EXPEED C2 and more

Don't let its size fool you—the COOLPIX S01 captures stunning Nikon-quality photos and HD (720p) videos. Its 3x optical Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens lets you zoom in for a flattering portrait, then out for a playful group shot; and it delivers sharp, bright images to a 10.1 megapixel CCD sensor. Nikon's exclusive EXPEED C2 processing engine provides fast operation, onboard intelligence and creative in-camera effects. Your photos and HD movies will be as beautiful as your camera.

Great for kids too! My Mom recently bought one of these (refurbished) for my 3 year old and I immediately thought it would be way too advanced for her. To my pleasant surprise it is not! It is very user friendly and just the right size for her hands. It even survived a couple drops on the floor. She manages to take some great pics with this little camera and I keep finding impressive features on this little thing. If you're looking for a camera for a young user, I highly suggest considering this one. You'll get some great features and probably better pictures at a price that is close to the cost of the "children's" cameras currently on the market. I think I want a second one for myself! August 16, 2014
The Most Deliciously Simple, Fun, Cool Camera in the world This is a WOW camera in the red. You will have to decide if you want to take a picture or eat the camera. Luscious. GREAT pictures. I have a D200 for planned photos, a Rollei 6008-AF for people and animals, and then there is this super little camera that fits in my pocket, is easy to use, intimidates no one, and does a great job for spontaneous in-the-moment pictures. I ADORE this camera. I bought 8-9 of them for best buds at Xmas time. Everyone was thrilled and now uses it in place of bigger cameras or their cell phone. For people who use their cell phones for photos, this baby will seduce you. It does NOT take an internal batteries . Do NOT be conned into thinking it needs one. Charge at your computer or wall charger. If I was wealthy I would buy 100's of these and give them to kids as an intro to photo creativity and just plain fun. June 19, 2014
Great Little Camera For the money this camera preforms really well. It is nice and small which makes carrying it around a breeze. I been using it daily for snapping shots on job sites. January 14, 2014
It has a long lasting memory. Handy, fancey and easy to uses. I love it I recommond to any one. I love it! love love it!. April 19, 2013
Easy, Fun, Cute to Boot! I wanted this camera in the first place because it was cute. Really cute. The picture on the web does not do it justice. Plus, mine came with a leather case and strap. I got the tomato red one. So, for its looks alone I wanted it. After I got it, I fell in love with its ease of use. You don't even need instructions to get started although it helps for some of the features and I recommend you download the manual; it's easy reading and the instructions are clear. I am not an accomplished photographer but the pictures I've taken so far have been more than satisfactory, in fact, they're really good. And it fits in that little slot inside my purse perfectly. I take it with me every day now and get pictures I never would have gotten before owning it. I love it! April 2, 2013

Answer:
The S01 will automatically switch to Macro Close-Up mode when it senses that its appropriate to the scene/subject. All modes are selected automatically by the camera - you cannot manually select a scene mode on the S01. The focus range in Macro Close-Up mode is approximately 5 cm (2 in.) –∞ (W) or approx. 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.) – ∞ (T).

Since the S01 does not allow you to select the scene mode or aperture setting it is going to be difficult for you to control depth of field. Portrait and Macro modes tend to have less depth of field while the Landscape mode tends to have greater depth of field but the camera will choose the mode based on your scene/subject. For more information on how depth of field is managed see this article on Nikonusa.com: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/ans... .

There is no option in S01 to save your flash settings when you turn the camera off. The only settings that are remembered after you turn the camera off are the Image Mode, the Touch Shooting option and any of the options in the Set-Up (Wrench) menu.

I received the Nikon S01 as a present for Christmas. I love it, but I really need to be able to take panoramic photos, and I don't see anything in the user manual or anywhere online about how I can easily do this. I am afraid that I may have to sell the camera or find out where they got it and try to return it if it is not capable of taking panoramic photos. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!! : )

Answer:
When playing the movie, there should be a speaker icon on the far right of the screen. If there is a diagonal line on the speaker icon, It means the sound is disabled, and you will need to tap it to enable the sound. If that does not help, turn the camera on and press the home button. Select 'setup', then scroll down and select 'Reset all', then select 'Reset'. Record another movie and try playing it to see if the camera sound works. If the issue persists, please contact technical support from the link below.

Answer:
The COOLPIX S01 does not use a memory card but instead stores all image files in its internal memory. To print pictures from the S01 you would need to upload them from the camera to a computer or printer. When using a service to print your pictures, it would probably best if you transfer the pictures to your computer and then them onto a memory card, USB drive or CD. You can then leave that with the printing service instead of leaving your camera.

Further information on transferring images to your computer can be found starting on page 46 of the S01 manual. Information on printing photographs can be found starting on page 48 of the S01 manual. Also check out page 25 of the S01 manual for a chart showing the approximate number of images that can be stored on the internal memory. A copy of the S01 manual can be downloaded from here:

Answer:
Its a good camera but if you need it specifically for low light shooting, there are better options. A camera with a maximum aperture number of 2.8 or below is ideal for shooting in low light. the lower the aperture number the better.

Even with the image quality lowered to 2M, it will only hold 89 pictures. I see that it should be able to hold 1700-1800 images. What can I do to get this camera to hold more images? I thought that the internal memory was able to hold many more pictures than 90.

I would like to know along with 7.3GB internal memory if this model has an external memory slot as there is no mention in the description or accessories list.

Answer:
Don't know why it is cheaper but the SO2 has a better sensor (CMOS vs CCD).
