I don't see all the problems!
I've looked at several other reviews on this camera that were saying it was junk, not waterproof, breaks, etc. they are totally false! I bought this camera for a week long canoeing/backpacking trip in Canada. I took over 450 photos and videos with it and all of them look gorgeous! I used it underwater too and had absolutely no problem with it. Great photos. I will say that to make it through the week I used two batteries. But it's really not that bad at all! One battery is like 10-12 bucks people. If you are buying a 300$ camera you can afford another $10 to DOUBLE your shooting time. I've had completely no issues whatsoever with this little camera. Trust me, buy it! You won't be dissappointed!

Awesome camera for the price
Bought my AW120 a few weeks back and am totally satisfied with the purchase. Being an avid diver, I wanted a waterproof camera that could be used in and around the water without fear of getting ruined. I haven't had it in the water yet but everything else has been great. The pictures are sharp, both in daylight and low light situations. I also love Nikon's Wireless Mobility Utility app that allows me to look at and transfer pictures to my phone. This allows me to take that perfect shot and upload it almost immediately to social media and other online sites. It is also fun to take photos remotely using my phone now and then. At this point the only negative that I have encountered is with the lens placement. A couple of early shots contained a nice close up of a finger in the corner of my pics. I have now used it enough that I automatically grip it with my fingers out of the way. I am looking forward to taking my first dive with it and seeing how those shots turn out but so far so good!

More than I had hoped for
I have had this camera for nine months now, and it has been to Alaska during a fishing trip, to Barcelona, Spain, Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris. I did not baby the camera and it took some abuse from being in my pocket or getting wet in rain and/or sea spray. It has provided great pictures that remain clear even with enlargement. Most recently I took it to the Bahamas and took numerous shots while walking in the water with my wife. I gave one to my son and he traveled to Fiji and Thailand for three weeks. His pictures, viewed on a large flat screen TV were phenomenal. Whenever I do not feel like carrying my professional level Nikons with the assorted lenses, this offers a great substitute. The only problem I had was trying to get it back from my wife after I let her borrow it.

This thing packs a punch!
When I opened up my new COOLPIX AW120 just one week ago today it was like Christmas morning as a kid. I am currently traveling Europe for a few months and didn't bring my DSLR rig due to weight and size (might rethink that next time). I had been getting along with an old Canon PowerShot SX210 IS that felt like it was not metering light very well. So after pre-ordering the AW120 and mailing home to have shipped to me (after installing the battery in accordance with US Postal Service guidelines) it arrived.
I have spent 2 days shooting with it and am very pleased. I get much more vibrant colors (a single light will not blow out the colors) while shooting churches and museums. It does do best in full light; outdoor shots are great! As a note, this camera will tell you elevation and grid coordinates. You can even embed them in the picture if you want to shoot sites for work and know exactly where you took that picture. The 24mm near-wide-angle lens comes in handy for shooting buildings when you want to try to “get it all in”. I was able to get quite a few shots while traveling that my friends could not get far enough back to achieve. It also has a great MACRO setting. I could focus on items a mere 1/4 inch from the lens. Oh, and I used the wifi feature both to use my phone as a cable release/remote view finder to compose self-portraits and to download photos to my phone to share on Facebook without a laptop. On a note of the battery; I shot with it for 5 hours today with the GPS and had no issues. I also shot 3 hours two days ago on the same charge.
My only complaint is that when I zoom in on a picture I expect more resolution in a 16 Megapixel sensor than what I get. This is great for posting on Facebook and probably for printing up to 8x11. After that it gets fuzzy (not grainy for some reason). So as long as you don't expect it to replace your DSLR and you want it for the soccer game, snorkeling in the Bahamas, or falling out of perfectly good airplanes then you will be very pleased with this camera.

Tiny, handy, wifi and photos are fantastic
Don't know what more you could ask for in a camera of this class. I've had my AW120 for a week and have taken many photos and videos. Looks like I'll now have to replace my D80--these photos have it beat. Love the size for carrying in a pocket and plan to try it in the water in FL soon. Great all around little camera when you can't carry your DSLR.

Great camera (but not for lefties!)
I bought this camera a month ago for a trip to Egypt. I took it everywhere, including diving, and I'm really impressed with the photos and video both above and below water.
My only caveat is that this camera was definitely designed for a right handed person, since the lens is on the top left side of the camera. This was fine for me since I'm right handed, but we have a bunch of photos and videos of my left-handed husband's fingers!

Good camera but major flaws
Camera takes nice picture but major flaws.
1) While making the video I found drastic light fluctuation when using the zoom. Video light varies from light to dark and back to light. If you watch, the entire video looks terrible. I have tested the camera indoor as well as outdoor in daylight and found the same light fluctuation issue.
2) Cameras zoom motor makes loud buzzing noise and you can hear the loud annoying noise in your video playback.
See below link
3) Camera zoom is not smooth even taking regular pictures, after one point it start jerking.
As per Nikon these are common issues and this camera (AW120) is not for making videos just for taking pictures. Are you kidding me !!!!! I am returning the camera back to Nikon....

Not So Water Proof!!
I have to say the AW100 was an awesome camera that took great pictures and worked under water flawlessly !! The AW120 has a few upgrades but overall my AW100 took better pictures!! The AW120's best upgrade is you can charge the camera directly with a cord not requiring a separate charger. The worst feature about this model is I have had problems with 2 leaking at depths less than 4ft!! Both leaked around the screen and the sense not through the battery bay!! Nikon and there service center gave me quit the run around saying they were going to fix a water logged camera. They have had my camera 2 weeks and I'm still waiting on an out come. I will most likely have to buy another brand or go and look for a retailer with old AW100 back stock!! I hope the AW130 is better because it seems the AW line is getting more options but far less durable and picture quality is going down. Overall I would try to steer clear of this camera if you will be anywhere near water!!!

I purchased the camera for a five day canoe camping trip. With a fully charged battery, I began the requisite camera setup. I only got as far as entering the time and date when the camera would do nothing more. The screen remained black. I tried powering it off (I wasn't certain if it was off or no) and starting again, but the screen remained black. The only way the camera would respond was by removing the battery and reinserting it, then it would power up - but never advanced any further than the time & date setup screen. I had great expectations, but after subsequently reading mixed reviews regarding customer service and the waterproof qualities (or lack thereof), its probably best the camera failed from the start. It was returned the next day. And, so the search for a reliable (and operational!) camera starts again.

Worked good for a while.
I bought this as a Lumix replacement on a vacation-
I worked great until another vacation and used it in a
pool and it had catastrophic leakage.
I don't think any underwater camera will ever be any good.

Worked for one week and quit
I purchased this camera for when I do not feel like carrying around my D7000, and when the weather gets nicer to use underwater. I travelled to the UK with the camera, and used it - photos were horrible. On the way home I placed the camera in my carry on bags, and now the battery is fully charged, but the camera will not 'power on'. The power light turns on for a moment then powers off... yes, I have tried another battery.
This is the absolute worst camera I purchased from Nikon - stay far away from this one.

Great Camera, terrible software
I bought the camera for a very rugged hike. The fact that it was waterproof and shockproof were exactly what I needed. The camera worked great. Upon return getting the images off the camera proved to be a chore. The software supplied by Nikon is mind boggling. I was expecting to plug the camera into my laptop and easily see the images. You can't see the images on the camera. ?? You have to navigate a plethora of features you will probably never use to move all the images to your laptop. Forget about selecting one picture that you want right now. You can't even see the images. The camera is great however without being able to easily manage the images it makes it product undesirable.

Fogged up then leaked in Hawaii
I bought this camera (AW110) as my wife has several DSL Nikon Cameras (D40x, D5000, D800e). I have always used a Sony camcorder with a underwater housing but decided to get a under water camera after seeing my brothers Canon. I took it to our trip in Maui and Kauai. It lasted a week, failed the first time I took it into the water.....2 weeks, no camera!
