Excellent Technical characteristics and Quality of Nikon Coolpix p530 I have bought Nikon coolpix p530 and I am very happy with this camera. It has a lot of variable parameters, which can suite needs may be even professional photographer. In the same time I use auto mode and the camera takes excellent quality pictures even in very hard lighting conditions (dark or too bright conditions, see specification it has very wide range of exposure parameters such shutter speed, ISO and others). So far I almost do not use Flash, because the camera taking excellent pictures in most lighting conditions. The camera has option to save often used settings in User's profile U on the Mode Dial. Optical zoom x42 working excellent no matter if I am taking still images or in movie mode. Vibration compensation system VR, designed by Nikon working excellent. I checked it taking movie clip while being walking and results are excellent. I have turned OFF digital zoom in settings, because x42 optical zoom satisfies me fully. I have opened some pictures in Photo Now, zoomed them in and quality is excellent even with high magnification. I have taken a movie clip and played it on my Sharp wide screen 46 inch HD TV and quality is comparable with the movie taken using professional big camera for taking movies, which cost obviously more, then ten thousand dollars. I assume I have made excellent choice and I am very happy with my new camera Nikon Coolpix p530. Special Thanks to Nikon's designers. December 16, 2014

This camera is new to me and I am planning to use it on Africa. There is a "do not" on page 34 about not using travel converters or adapters designed to convert one voltage to another or with DC-to-AC inverters. How can I recharge my lithium battery?

Answer:
All Nikon Coolpix cameras have an auto switching (from 100v to 240V 50hz/60hz) battery charger that will work in most countries around the world. AC adapters have similar characteristics. Always check the specification plate on your other battery chargers or AC adapters as third party products may not support dual voltage systems. We do not suggest the use of third party battery chargers and AC adapters with Nikon equipment.

Note that the power cord included with some Nikon chargers or AC adapter is designed for 110 volt use only. A power cord suitable for the local power system should be obtained on arrival, most airport shops and computer suppliers will carry these items which are typically used for laptop computer power supply connections. Be sure that the new cord you buy fits the Nikon adapter you wish to use it with and that it is rated for the voltage in your new location. While not recommended, a simple plug adapter may be used, but caution should be taken as the cord Nikon supplies is not rated for the higher voltage and may heat or fail.

Some newer Coolpix have included an AC Adapter, like the EH-68P AC adapter, for plugging directly into a wall outlet without the use of a power cord. As with previous chargers, the correct adapter must be acquired for the country traveled to, and fitted to the Nikon AC adapter to allow proper AC connection to the wall outlet.

The maximum movie recording time (maximum movie length for a single movie) is 4GB or 29 minutes, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card. The maximum movie length for a single movie is displayed on the monitor during movie recording.

How can I take bright photos of the night sky showing clearly all the stars? I tried to take photo using the manual mode and adjusting the shutter speed on 15", but the result was very dark (see the attached photo how black - should be much more bright). Of course there was no moon in the sky or other light source which could effect the capturing process. Is there any setting which I could make in order to take more bright photos of the night sky and the stars with my Coolpix p530?

Answer:
Controlling aperture and shutter speed are the keys. Aperture is the size of the lens opening; you want large apertures to let in as much light as possible. Shutter speed will control how long the shutter stays open; the longer it's open, the more light will reach the sensor. Also, setting higher ISO speeds will increase the "light gathering" ability of the camera's sensor. A tripod is necessary. Long exposure times—one, ten, even 30 seconds—combined with small apertures (for great depth-of-field) will produce dramatic light-trails and reveal details.

I wish to buy a guidebook, and have been told really good things about those written by Alexander White. Unfortunately, he has only written books for the P520 and the P600, and has no immediate plans to write one for the P530. Although I would rather have a book specific to the model camera I have, I would be willing to spring for one that is close. All of that said, which is closer to the P530 - the P520 or the P600?
