A camera you can count on

Photo of two women walking along the ocean's edge
The shots we want don't always happen right in front of us; they're often out on the sports field, up on the stage, across the room or just too far away for many smartphone cameras—but not too far away for the stylish COOLPIX S3600. Its NIKKOR glass zoom lens makes it easy to catch those shots. Zoom in with the power of 8x optical zoom and 16x Dynamic Fine Zoom for detailed close-ups from the sidelines. Add convenient features like Scene Modes for difficult shooting situations, Smart Portrait System for flattering no-fuss portraits, Target Finding Autofocus for keeping focus where you want it, fun Image Effects and so much more, and you've got a camera you can count on in nearly any situation.

Get even closer to what matters

Zoom in close with Dynamic Fine Zoom

Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have helped make Nikon famous. The COOLPIX S3600’s 8x optical zoom lens goes from wide-angle—great for portraits and landscapes—all the way up to telephoto—great for closeups of sports, concerts, nature and more. When you need even more reach, zoom up to 8x with optical zoom and 16x with Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom function that effectively doubles your reach.

Let the camera call the shots

18 Scene Modes for effortless photos

Experienced photographers optimize their camera settings to match the situation. The COOLPIX S3600 does that work for you. With 18 Scene Modes, including Beach, Snow, Night Portrait, Sunset and more, it's easy to match the moment to a Scene Mode. You can even get creative and use Scene Modes to alter ordinary shots. Or, select Scene Auto Selector and let the camera choose the best mode for your situation.

Smart Portrait System makes everyone look their best

Smart Portrait System makes it easy to create beautiful photos of the people you care about. Turn it on, and several portrait-optimizing features activate. Face Priority AF finds and focuses on faces. Skin Softening applies an attractive soft focus effect. The camera can even automatically take a photo the instant someone smiles! Your loved ones will always look their best.

Capture the sights and sounds

HD 720p videos with sound bring your memories to life

When a photo alone won't do, press the dedicated movie button and instantly start recording HD 720p video in widescreen format while the built-in microphone captures the sounds of the moment in high fidelity. When you're ready to share your creations, use an optional audio video cable to connect to your compatible TV. Your friends and family will see your movies come to life on the big screen.

Focus where you want it

Target Finding AF for accurate, intelligent autofocus

It's frustrating when a smartphone camera focuses on the wrong thing. With COOLPIX S3600, Target Finding AF instantly and accurately determines your intended subject and focuses on it—not on just whatever is closest to the camera. Catch the shot you want on the first try. No more out of focus shots or the frustration of trying to get the camera to focus on the right thing.

Get the best of what's seen

Turn on Best Shot Selector and get the best of what's seen. With a single press of the shutter button, the camera takes a quick sequence of photos and automatically saves the best ones for you.

Small Camera for a small Price It is a great small camera and takes nice pictures September 30, 2014
Excellent quality in a small package! I bought this camera after returning a very subpar Polaroid digital camera and am just amazed at how high quality the photos are! My mom had a Nikon Coolpix camera several years ago and she was very pleased with hers so I decided to get a Nikon Coolpix as well based on that and the fact that the Walmart Photo Center also uses this model. If you want great quality photos, go with this camera! You WON'T be disappointed. September 1, 2014
Great little pocket camera! Picked up this camera to replace a S3500 model that I broke. This is an old friend format. Got the camera for having a "Pocket Camera" with me all the time. As a working professional photographer, I want a camera with me all the time, but I don't like to haul around the "Big Gun" everywhere. As a Crew member on a running steam locomotive, I want a camera that I can carry with me and get good pictures at a moments notice. The S3600 fills the bill. 20MP size, good enough for 16x20 prints, Light weight and size to cary in your pocket. And it's functions give me a wide range of choices to handle most anything I've come across. Good wide angle, and close-up ability. BTW the video is pretty darn good too. Came with Battery, Strap, Charger w/cord, Software, Instruction Book(printed) and a full Nikon warranty. All said, Great little general use, everyday camera. April 30, 2014
Just the right size for a pocket and great pictures Unlike the review form Canada, my camera came with everything. Plus a CD to download my pictures to my laptop for editing. March 29, 2014
Great camera! Just got this a few days ago, used to own a Canon. Gave up on that brand for multiple reasons. This camera will take a little to get used to, but so far it is far superior. Crisp images, good video quality. So far, I am very impressed with the quality. Only beefs - video format is mov, would have preferred avi. When taking video in highest resolution you need a large capacity memory card if you want more than 8-10 minutes of video. If you're looking for a decent point and shoot, this is a great one despite the above beefs. Once you get used to how it works (which even I am still doing) you will love it. May 15, 2014

Answer:
Motion Detection helps you produce sharper results by automatically selecting a faster shutter speed and higher ISO (light sensitivity) setting to compensate for subject movement or camera shake. Motion Detection frees you to enjoy taking great pictures instead of worrying about camera settings. The S3600 has the capability of using the motion detection setting. Sports Scene Mode is a scene mode that lets you capture fast moving sports or action subjects using a fast shutter speed and continuous shooting. The S3600 also has this scene mode. While the shutter-release button is held all the way down, the camera shoots up to about 6 images continuously at a rate of about 1.1 fps.

Answer:
Indivisual video clips can be up to 29 minutes in length given that there is enough space on the memory card. To get the movie that is being created onto a DVD, it would have to be done on third party software. Nikon cannot offer support or advice on third party software. You will need to get in contact with the manufacturer of the third party equipment for compatibility information with our products.
