Excellent features from the great Nilon brand known for high quality priducts The L820 produces quality images from great quality made camera that features a sharp Nikkor zoom lens. I compared this camera to my old Nikon SLR camera systems that I used for my guilty pleasure hobby of amateur photography. Upon the advent of digital cameras, it took me a while to ease into digital photography, so after years of playing around with the L20, I moved up to L820. I must admit I love the camera's feel, touch, handling, and ease of use for an essentially point and shoot camera. I am very pleased and look forward to creating many memorable images with this diverse tool. August 5, 2014
Great features in a small camera So far so good. My pictures come out blurry however and I hope to figure out how to correct that. May 6, 2014
The Perfect Camera This is my first Nikon and I love it! For the last 20 years I have only owned & used Canon. While I am still exploring/learning about all of the features of the Coolpix L820, this is the best camera I have ever owned. I am highly impressed with the cameras zoom capabilities & the picture clarity when the camera is in zoom mode. The camera is easy to navigate and use. I can honestly say that this camera has made me a Nikon fan for life. Any future cameras I purchase will be Nikon because I am highly impressed with the camera I got for the price I paid. I paid much more for a Canon Powershot and I was never able to get the exceptional quality of picture I have gotten with my Nikon Coolpix. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone, especially people like myself who are not professional photographers but want to capture the shot just right. April 10, 2014
I am impressed with the Nikon Coolpix L850 Right out of the box this one amazing camera! The features are very easy to operate, set up is amazingly simple. I am old school all of the way but I have wanted to update to a digital camera since the old days of film cameras. This camera is a great entry level camera with many great features that I would expect in one many times more the dollar amount. Needless to say I am impressed beyond words! I would recommend this camera to anyone on a budget who wants the affordability, but wants the features of a professional; this one has it all. Kudos Nikon! March 31, 2014
Re..."Happy"... I bought the L820 as a self indulgent retirement gift for my-self this past November. As good as the Canon point and shoot I also own is, I felt limited by it's 720 resolution abilities. The L820 was on sale and the price was too good to pass up.There's a lot to like about this model Nikon, it has more features than I'll ever use which is okay as the features being used so far do a terrific job and exceed my needs and expectations. The only thing I find as a negative is the lens cover.Only once have I forgotten to remove the cover and fortunately the camera didn't seem worse for the experience.Olympus uses a spring loaded design where by four over lapped lens covers permanently attatched move aside as the lens moves out from the housing. It's an excellent design and one I would like to see used by Nikon.Another plus if possible for the price point would be an old fashioned view finder.Sometimes the flat screen on the back would wash out in sun light.A feature I like with the L820 is at the 1080 resolution enlarged images don't lose crispness or clarity. The video is all I could ask for, with good sound capture and fine detailing in the imagery. The use of double A batteries was a surprise but in hind-sight it makes sense.Like Coca-Cola,double A batteries can be found anywhere you go in the world and you can also buy them as rechargeables too.The L820 got a serious work out for the two months I was gone over seas and I'm very happy with my buying it. Really a great camera, so much so I think if used by professionals on a daily basis it would give a good account of itself given its pricing..."Boomer48"... March 10, 2014

I got this camera about a month ago and love taking pictures with it just wondering? And if it doesn't what is a great low cost alternative to a camera that does have manual controls? Maybe a step down from a Dslr?

I assume you have the EH-67 AC Adapter, it does not charge the battery it only supplies AC current to camera. You must purchase rechargeable batteries and a charger. It also works with AA Lithium or AA alkaline batteries.

How do you get clear, crisp photos in Sports Mode?

Was this helpful?helpful0unhelpful0
I bought this camera because of the many good reviews. I'm not totally clueless when it comes to cameras, but I cannot figure out why the subject is blurry in every photo I shoot in sports mode. I've tried it with the flash and without. I practiced with my dog tonight and I was able to get a good shot of her mid-jump, but that was in auto mode with a flash. When I used sports mode, I got a blurry arc that was her body jumping off the couch. Are there any tips or am I missing something obvious? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am attempting to attach a resized but otherwise unedited photo I took of my daughter playing basketball last weekend. Considering the darkness of the photo, I doubt I had the flash on for this. I did have it on tonight, however, when I tried to capture my dog. The image is not showing up in the preview screen so I'm not sure if it'll show up when the question is posted. If not, I apologize.

First, I LOVE NIKON! With that being said, I own a Nikon EM 35mm film, auto winder, speed light, 2 lenses, 2x converter & a zoom, I also own a D3100 DSLR and a point/shoot Coolpix. I would like to add the L820 in Purple, why does it cost more than the Classic Black? And, why doesn't it come with rechargeables like the D3100, or the other Coolpixes?

Answer:
The L820 does not give you the ability to control aperture directly so it is going to be difficult for you to control your depth of field, especially when shooting in bright light. Macro mode will usually give you a bokeh effect but this mode may not work for all the situations in which you might want to achieve bokeh. Other factors that affect bokeh are your lens focal length and your distance to your subject. To decrease your depth of field experiement with zooming your camera to its longest focal length (without using digital zoom) and getting closer to your subject. Lowering your ISO (available when shooting in Auto) may also force your camera to open the aperture wide enough to increase bokeh.

To view 3D images in 3D, a 3D-compatible TV or monitor is required. Use a 3D-compatible HDMI cable to connect the camera and these devices for 3D viewing. More info on 3D photography can be found on pages 45-46 of the L820 Reference Manual.

Set the HDMI 3D output option under TV Settings in the Settings Menu to 'On'. See page 74 of the L820 Reference Manual for details.

The COOLPIX L820 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there. When zooming out all the way, and trying to capture action shots they may come out blurry. Try shooting in an action setting with camera like Sports mode or in continuous.

Answer:
Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, please read the following article on lens errors: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

My Nikon CoolPix L820 is completely dead. Batteries are charged. When I press On/Off button, NOTHING happens. "On" light doesn't come on, monitor stays black, lens does not move out. It won't come on when I connect it with my computer via USB either. This camera is only 7 months old. I have tried ALL the suggestions in the manual under "Troubleshooting - Monitor Is Blank." NOTHING helps. I need to use this camera again soon. PLEASE HELP!!

Answer:
There is no way to leave the shutter open on the COOLPIX L820. However, some of the specified scene modes capture images at slow shutter speeds, see page 36 of the Reference Manual below for a list of these scene modes.

I don't have a Nikon Coolpix L820 manual. Where can I purchase one for this camera, not a download, but an actual manual in English? I'm sure that would help! Thanks.

Answer:
There are several different ways to approach preventing motion blur. Using the L820's built in flash will help but may not be appropriate for all shooting situations. You could also try shooting in the Sports Scene Mode since that mode was created specifically to freeze motion in active situations. Information on the Sports Scene Mode can be found on page 38 of the L820 manual. The Continuous Shooting Option or Best Shot Selector will allow you to take pictures in quick succession and capture action. Information about Continuous Shooting and Best Shot Selector can befound on page 36 of the Reference Section of the L820 Reference Manual.

The L820 also has Vibration Reduction and Motion Detection features that can help reduce the effect of camera shake and subject movement. These features are not available with all shooting modes, see page 67 and 68 of the Reference Section of the L810 Reference Manual for more information on these settings.

Another way to reduce motion blur is to increase your shutter speed. The L820 does not allow you to manually choose your shutter speed but if you increase your camera's sensitivity to light (ISO) the shutter speed will speed up. Changing your shooting mode to Auto (not Easy Auto) will give you the ability to select your ISO sensitivity in the L820's shooting menu. Selecting a higher ISO setting will allow the camera to use faster shutter speeds thus reducing the likelihood of motion blur in your action shots. See page 38 of the Reference Section of the L820 Reference Manual for information on changing your camera's ISO sensitivity settings.

For an informative article on shutter speed and exposure see this page on NikonUSA.com:

I used a Lexar 4GB SDHC memory card that I had used and uploaded my pics each day on to a external hard drive.- I took all the pics off of it and put the card back in to use and now it tells me "This card cannot be used". I have tried 3 other memory cards that are compatible with this camera in the list of the manual and the camera says the same thing---what is the problem?
