Comfortable, balanced handling

Larger ergonomic design for easier shooting

You will feel a difference when handling the COOLPIX L820 for the first time. Its ergonomic design fits comfortably in your hands and puts key controls like zoom and Movie Record right where you want them. This makes for more stable zooming, framing, shooting and video recording, and it means you won't have to take your eyes off the large, bright 3.0-inch display while you're capturing memories.

Enjoy the view

Compose, review and share your photos and HD videos on a vibrant, high-resolution 3.0-inch 921,000-dot VGA display.

Get the whole scene into your shot

At its widest setting, the COOLPIX L820's optical zoom NIKKOR glass lens delivers a 22.5mm wide-angle view (35mm equivalent), perfect for getting more of the scene into your shot without backing up.

Turn the ordinary into extraordinary

Easily apply fun and creative Image Effects like Selective Color, Miniature, Skin Softening and more right from the camera—no need for additional photo or video-editing software.

Master the camera in no time

Excellent features from the great Nilon brand known for high quality priducts The L820 produces quality images from great quality made camera that features a sharp Nikkor zoom lens. I compared this camera to my old Nikon SLR camera systems that I used for my guilty pleasure hobby of amateur photography. Upon the advent of digital cameras, it took me a while to ease into digital photography, so after years of playing around with the L20, I moved up to L820. I must admit I love the camera's feel, touch, handling, and ease of use for an essentially point and shoot camera. I am very pleased and look forward to creating many memorable images with this diverse tool. August 5, 2014
Great features in a small camera So far so good. My pictures come out blurry however and I hope to figure out how to correct that. May 6, 2014
The Perfect Camera This is my first Nikon and I love it! For the last 20 years I have only owned & used Canon. While I am still exploring/learning about all of the features of the Coolpix L820, this is the best camera I have ever owned. I am highly impressed with the cameras zoom capabilities & the picture clarity when the camera is in zoom mode. The camera is easy to navigate and use. I can honestly say that this camera has made me a Nikon fan for life. Any future cameras I purchase will be Nikon because I am highly impressed with the camera I got for the price I paid. I paid much more for a Canon Powershot and I was never able to get the exceptional quality of picture I have gotten with my Nikon Coolpix. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone, especially people like myself who are not professional photographers but want to capture the shot just right. April 10, 2014
I am impressed with the Nikon Coolpix L850 Right out of the box this one amazing camera! The features are very easy to operate, set up is amazingly simple. I am old school all of the way but I have wanted to update to a digital camera since the old days of film cameras. This camera is a great entry level camera with many great features that I would expect in one many times more the dollar amount. Needless to say I am impressed beyond words! I would recommend this camera to anyone on a budget who wants the affordability, but wants the features of a professional; this one has it all. Kudos Nikon! March 31, 2014
Re..."Happy"... I bought the L820 as a self indulgent retirement gift for my-self this past November. As good as the Canon point and shoot I also own is, I felt limited by it's 720 resolution abilities. The L820 was on sale and the price was too good to pass up.There's a lot to like about this model Nikon, it has more features than I'll ever use which is okay as the features being used so far do a terrific job and exceed my needs and expectations. The only thing I find as a negative is the lens cover.Only once have I forgotten to remove the cover and fortunately the camera didn't seem worse for the experience.Olympus uses a spring loaded design where by four over lapped lens covers permanently attatched move aside as the lens moves out from the housing. It's an excellent design and one I would like to see used by Nikon.Another plus if possible for the price point would be an old fashioned view finder.Sometimes the flat screen on the back would wash out in sun light.A feature I like with the L820 is at the 1080 resolution enlarged images don't lose crispness or clarity. The video is all I could ask for, with good sound capture and fine detailing in the imagery. The use of double A batteries was a surprise but in hind-sight it makes sense.Like Coca-Cola,double A batteries can be found anywhere you go in the world and you can also buy them as rechargeables too.The L820 got a serious work out for the two months I was gone over seas and I'm very happy with my buying it. Really a great camera, so much so I think if used by professionals on a daily basis it would give a good account of itself given its pricing..."Boomer48"... March 10, 2014

Answer:
The UC-E16 USB Cable that comes with the COOLPIX L820 is provided for connecting the camera to a computer or printer. Instructions on connecting your camera to a computer or printer start on page 78 of the L820 manual.

In the case of the L820 this cable cannot be used to charge the camera because the L820 uses AA batteries. While rechargeable AA's can be used in the L820, it would be necessary to use a separate battery charger to recharge them. If you choose to use rechargeable AA batteries in the L820 please refer to page 14 of the L820 manual for a list of applicable batteries and page 82 of the Reference section of the manual for information on setting the camera's Battery Type.

A copy of the COOLPIX L820 manual can be downloaded from this address:

Answer:
The Coolpix L820 is fully automatic, so the settings will adjust depending on the mode the camera is in. To achieving a blur background, manual adjustments are required. This is not possible on this model. You can get a certain amount of this effect by setting your camera to portrait mode and shooting in a bright setting, but you may not always get the effect you desire.
If you would like a camera specifically to create bokeh photography we would recommend using a P range COOLPIX, the Nikon 1 series or a Nikon DSLR. These cameras require a slightly bigger investment, but they do offer more flexibility.

To shoot continuously with the L820, the camera first need to be put into Auto mode. (Not Easy Auto or Scene mode). Press the menu button, then scoll down and select continuous. Next, chose a continuous setting.
(See Page 64, 52 , and 36, of the reference manual)

I was looking at the camera today. It was in sports mode and I think HDR was on. I zoomed in all the way and looked at a box about 10 to 15 ft away. The text on it was not in focus, although backing off the zoom a bit brought it into focus. Is that normal behavior for the camera? How durable is the camera btw.The store may have damaged the camera but I have no way to tell. I may buy one by weeks end.

Answer:
What you experience with the camera is normal. It has a minimum focus distance when you zoomed all the way out and it has a minimimun focus distance when you zoom all the way in. If you are going to focus on a text, you should turn on micro mode. There is nothing wrong with your camera. You just need to read the manual and familiarize yourself with it and you will know what to do when thing aren't going right.

Answer:
The Coolpix L820 has Pet portrait mode. When the L820 is in pet portrait mode, it shows an icon of a cat in the upper left corner of the LCD screen and a second icon of the cat's face(pet portrait auto release) right below the first.

To select pet portrait mode:
1) Press the camera shooting mode button. (button with the green camera Icon)
2) Use the camera multi selector to select the second Icon from the top far left,
3)Use the camera multi selector to move over to the right and Select 'Pet Portrait (Icon of a Cat)

The camera will automatically take a picture when a cat or dog face is detected (Pet portrait auto release). This feature can be turn off.
Please see page 3, 37 & 44 of the L820 manual in the link below.

Answer:
Since the COOLPIX L820 takes 4 AA batteries you do not need to charge the camera, just replace the batteries. The L820 comes with 4 LR6/L40 (AA-size) non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. When they run out of power you can replace them with any of the following applicable batteries:
-Four LR6/L40 (AA-size) alkaline batteries
-Four FR6/L91 (AA size) lithium batteries.
-Four EN-MH2 rechargeable Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) batteries
