Frame the perfect shot

12x wide-angle NIKKOR glass zoom lens gets you closer to the action

Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have made Nikon famous. The COOLPIX S6500 12x zoom NIKKOR lens is great for everything from wide-angle group shots to close-up portraits. Plus, lens-shift Vibration Reduction helps keep every shot steady, even if your hands are not.

Superior low-light performance

High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash

Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos and HD videos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX S6500 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.

Freeze action in its tracks

Hold down the shutter button and fire up to 7 continuous shots per second

Create amazing action sequences with the touch of a button. When the action speeds up, just hold down the shutter button and fire off up to 7 continuous shots per second. You'll get views of fast-moving subjects you may never have seen.

great camera in a small package easy to use, wonderful pics, clear instructions, light weight April 14, 2014
Easy to Set Up and start using great picture quality and so easy to download pictures to my computer April 13, 2014
MIS USE OF WIFI TECHNOLOGY WIFI DOES NOT WORK. will not work.WIFI is meant to work with any device with wifi period. should be advertised as smart phone ready NOT WIFI. other wise camera is simple to use and takes decent pictures. very unhappy with the wifi function. have spoken with tech support and they seemed to agree that this is a mis use of the wifi terminology. works for what we need and transfer via cable is fine. March 25, 2014
Battery life too short, great pics! the battery life is too short.I charged it all night and then took a 3 min video plus some other pics and the battery still died that same day. the camera shows more battery life but then just shuts down. I got clear pictures of birds in mid flight while on a boat! I was very impressed with that. The camera has a great zoom too. I wish there was a way to charge a battery while using one so I didn't lose out on the second half of the day of pictures from my trip. March 18, 2014
Steer clear of this!!! I purchased this camera last spring before a family vacation. Used it a couple days prior to make sure it was ok. Went on vacation & the 4th day in the middle of taking pics the screen went black. The lens would open but the screen stayed black. I did everything the troubleshooting said to do to no avail. Called the company & they had me return it, which I did. I received it back, charged it & the lens totally wouldn't open at all! Called again, to which I was basically told I was stupid as they wouldn't return an item if it didn't work. Sent it back again & received it back in the same condition I sent it. Called again & was told to resend it again (for the THIRD time) which I did, Then I receive an email that it would cost $116 to repair!!! Called letting them know I shouldn't have to pay anything since it only worked a week & was told they would give me a "complimentary repair" Well I have now gotten it back again & when I turn it on the lens does not open & the screen is white!!!! The company has had 3 attempts to repair their product & haven't managed to do so, obviously this is a total LEMON!!! This has been the WORST experience EVER!!! The company has been horrible in their service as well...DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA if you intend to use it!!!!!! March 9, 2014

Answer:
The COOLPIX S6500 can be used with or without a memory card. However, the number of images that can be stored on the S6500's internal memory will vary depending on your image settings - about 5 images can be saved with the camera at its default settings. This number can be increased by changing the S6500's image mode settings to smaller image sizes, but image quality will decline with a decrease in image size.

A list of approved memory cards for the COOLPIX S6500 can be found on page 22 of the Technical Notes and Index section of the S6500 manual.

See page 49 of the reference section of the S6500 manual for a chart showing the approximate number of images that can be saved to a 4GB card at different image mode settings.

A copy of the COOLPIX S6500 manual can be downloaded from this address:

Answer:
Once the S6500 displays the "Negotiating" screen open the WMU app on your Smart Device. If the WMU opens on the screen that says "Take Photos" or "View Photos" then Tap "Take Photos" to control the camera remotely and take pictures. When connected the camera will display "Remote Mode Selected" and the Smart Device will display the view from the View Finder. Tap "View Photos" to view and download images from the camera to the smart device. If the WMU opens on a black screen or a screen that says the camera isn't connected tap the "Top" option on the upper left to go back to the page that says "Take Photos" or View Photos" and then choose one of those options to continue. If you continue to encounter trouble connecting please contact Nikon Support: http://support.nikonusa.com.

I have a new Nikon Coolpix S6500 (red) camera and generally like it a lot. We have noticed on more than one occasion the camera freezing up if we attempt to take a picture, or display (play) previously taken pictures too soon after powering it on. Is this normal? We're using a SanDisk SDHC I, 30mb/sec 32GB SD card rated with a speed of 10. The card had roughly a few hundred pictures and a half dozen short (less than 15 minutes) videos. There was a lot of room left on the card, and we formatted the card in the camera before using it. The behavior allows you to actively view the on screen viewfinder, but we're unable to get the camera to take a picture, video, or play content from the SD card. The only way I've found to get out of this frozen state is to remove the battery and try again. I find if I wait a little after power up, it behaves better.

Answer:
From your description of the problem, It could be the memory card that is causing the issue, and you may need to get a new one. Transfer all the files from the card to your computer, and format the memory card in the camera. You can also try using the camera for a while without a memory card in it, or if possible try a different memory card to see how the camera performs. If the issue persist, please contact Nikon technical support for assistance.

I have the S6500 and the zoom is not working on it anymore. It was purchased back in mid February (2014). I tried using the zoom at a concert on 3/29 and it just wouldn't work. But it worked a week preior to that.

I've emailed Nikon support, but was going to see if anybody else had an issue.

Answer:
Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:

One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.
If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.
To find your local Nikon authorized service agent Click the link below.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible.
